Many work from home business opportunities are scams but there
are some good ideas out there that do make money. You can spend
hours surfing the internet looking for that perfect work from
home opportunity but the best ideas are not necessarily the most
innovative.

One of the best ideas that I have seen being done successfully
from home is telemarketing. Many businesses need somebody to
generate new leads and make appointments for their sales people.
They are willing to pay someone who has some telesales
experience and can work unsupervised over 30 dollars per hour
for making calls. Some businesses pay per appointment but if
they know that you are good they will be happy to pay hourly
rates.

All you need for this type of work is a broadband internet
connection, a dedicated phone line with unlimited national
calls, a headset and a quiet room in the house so that you are
not disturbed.

The great thing about working in telemarketing is that you can
choose the hours you would like to work. The downside is that
you have to make a lot of calls even when you do not feel like
talking to anybody!

Running an interior design service from home can also be
lucrative if you have an eye for the latest trends and
understand how to coordinate different colours together. There
are many courses you can do that will bring you up to speed very
quickly.

Being an interior design consultant means that much of your
time will be spent at other people's houses and places of work
in order to evaluate your client's requirements and get approval
for your ideas.

My cousin started doing this part time and now it has turned
into a full time job. She gets payment in stages with a third
paid upfront, another third when she is half way through the
task and the remainder once the client is happy that all their
objectives have been met.

She is very good at interior design, so she never has to
advertise as all her work comes from word of mouth.

Selling goods on EBay can make you money if you stick at it.
One guy I know gave me the following tip on how to make money on
Ebay - "buy on the streets and sell on Ebay" was his advice. He
spends half his time searching for goods whether it be job lots
or individual items that households no longer need.

If you love car boot sales, second hand market places and do
not mind trawling through peoples possessions in their attic,
this could really be great fun and make you some money at the
same time!

It is very hard to become a millionaire on Ebay now that so
many people are doing it, but to generate a second income stream
is fairly easy. You can sell absolutely anything on Ebay but it
is important that you establish a good reputation as a supplier.
Make sure you have to have a refunds policy in place for
disgruntled buyers and only buy items that are in great
condition.

When searching for ideas to work from home with, make sure that
you do not choose a business opportunity just on the basis of
how much money it can make you. Rather choose something that you
will enjoy doing for years to come and have a definite flair
for. You will almost certainly make money if you persevere and
learn all the tricks of the trade.

Online businesses are nowadays praised and criticized by both
entrepreneurs and consumers. Many online entrepreneurs would
regard online websites as perfect tools for marketing purposes
and they are right. Using the internet for business saves time
and money; which are two important factors that entrepreneurs
always look out for. The aid of online technology has been
developed to everybody's convenience, not just for the
consumer's benefit but for the entrepreneurs as well.

For realtors and real estate agents, there is a great deal that
they can get by taking real estate business online too. Every
real estate agent can do it and trying it is worth everything,
time and even money.

You don't have to become an online real estate pro during your
first moments using the net, everybody has to start from scratch
and the internet is such a vast space to start big up front, so
take your time. You can start small as long as you are on the
right track of whatever it is that you are going to post or
publish online. If you already know the real estate world from
the inside and out, you already have a good advantage and
putting all that you know in writing is a good way to go.

How do you go about with this entire online thing, you ask?
It's easy. Though people think that competing with other online
real estate marketers is going to be a tough job, it's actually
also a great opportunity for people to market and share what
they know at the same time. It's more like writing about what
you already know and getting people to acknowledge it plus,
getting paid for doing it.

This is simply the reason why online marketing for real estate
agents and owners are such a great idea but often times clouded
by false ideas. Creating your very own real estate blogs
guarantees a sure way of getting on top of the search engines
just as you are getting establishing your real estate reputation
online on your real estate website.

The best home based internet business is something we are all
looking for. Why are we all looking for the best home based
internet business? Simple we are all looking for a way to make
money. We all want to quit our day jobs and become millionaires.
It is something we all want.

Many people join or startup a business looking to achieve this.
We all have hopes and dreams. The tough thing is to know who to
trust when looking for a business to start. There is alot of
hype out there. Everyone is screaming join this or buy that.

There are many promises being made and not very many of them
are being kept. This is a problem we can all agree with. Too
many people are getting duped online. I personally run into
people all the time who have been scammed by some fly by night
operation. Although I have heard many bad things, I have also
met many people who have found the best home based internet
business that works for them. So all hope is not lost.

There are many things to look for when looking for an online
business. But there are a few things that a business must have
in order to help you become successful. If a business does not
have this then your chances of succeeding are greatly lowered.

If you are brand new or inexperienced then this is a must for
you. In anything you do in life there will be a learning curve.
You must understand that. When you are brand new to business you
are just like a newborn baby. And without the proper training
and guidance you will not succeed. Which is why the training a
company offers is so important.

Many people overlook this powerful fact and just look at how
much money they can make. They are getting ahead of themselves.
The most important part is the training offered. And this has to
be effective training, it must be training you can actually use
to make money with. How many times have you bought an ebook only
to find the business methods were ineffective?

If your company is still telling you to make a list of your
warm market then your business is really off base when it comes
to building a successful business. Making a list of your warm
market is not an effective way to build your business. In fact
it is one of the worst things you can do as a new business
owner.

The training is important but what is as equally important is
what the training consist of. Your training must be techniques
that actually work and actually make you money. Making a list of
100 people then hoping 3 sign up and then they make a list of
100 people and hoping they get 3 each does not work.

It maybe great in theory but it does not work. And any company
teaching this method to it's reps is leading them down the wrong
path. Great training is something a best home based internet
business would have in my opinion.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Your face is the first thing that most people will notice when
they see you. Whether it's a first meeting or someone that
you've known for years, your face will leave an impression on
others as they think of you. As individuals, we each have
distinct features that make our face different from any other.
One thing that we do share in common, however, is one of four
basic face shapes that we each possess. Among them, oval,
round, heart and square. In this article, we will explore ways
to identify our own face shape and the jewelry that best
compliments it.

An oval face is slightly greater in length than in width. Its
soft lines and classic shape will be accented well with pearl
earrings, a matching pearl necklace or a trendy ensemble of
circle jewelry.

A round face is shaped similar to a circle in that it is
equally round with soft curves. If you are looking for ways to
elongate a round face, you can do so with a long necklace or
dangle earrings. Any jewelry that you choose featuring length
will compliment a round face in that it gives your face an
elongated appearance.

A heart shaped face, like the symbol of a heart, is wide at the
top and narrows to a point at the bottom. For the best
compliment, jewelry lovers with a heart shaped face can look for
hoop earrings or those featuring a teardrop design, which is
known as a universally friendly style that's flattering to every
face shape.

A square shaped face lacks the soft curves found on one with
round or oval features. In an effort to soften the jawline,
jewelry lovers with a square face can choose a drape or
waterfall design. Any style with layers will give the face a
more curvy appearance and will compliment it nicely.

Now that you know the various face shapes, how to identify them
and which jewelry is made to compliment them, it's important to
note that some designs are said to flatter every face. As
mentioned earlier, the teardrop design is one that compliments
all face shapes in that it provides soft curves, an elongated
design and a polished finish that draws the eye to the accessory
and away from the actual shape of the face.

In conclusion, there are various face shapes and facial
features that come together to create each person's individual
appearance. While the information above is intended to be a
reference guide for those looking to identify their face shape
and learn how to compliment it with the help of jewelry, the
only one who knows what looks best on you is you. Certain types
of jewelry appeals to some more than others, and this is why we
enjoy choosing from a large variety of styles. If you're in the
market for new jewelry and aren't quite sure what to choose,
consider shopping for sterling silver accessories that offer an
affordable way for you to increase your collection without
spending a fortune. Regardless of your face shape, the look of
a smart shopper is a flattering look on everyone.

College Football - If You Thought SEC Was the Toughest NCAA Conference, Think Again
Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley

There is so much buzz and hype about the Southeast
Conference—better known as the SEC—you would
think there are no other NCAA football conferences that can
compare.

Even Jeff Sagarin in his Sagarin Ratings lists the SEC as
the top conference with a central mean (that is Sagarin
math talk) of 79.89 with the Pacific 10—better known
as the Pac 10—second at 79.19. On a scale of 100 the
difference is 70/100ths of 1, or close enough to not make a
difference in my mind.

Ranked 11th among Division 1A conferences is Conference USA
at 58.88. Three 1AA conferences are then rated above the
last 1A conference—the Sun Belt—at 58.26.

Sagarin rates all of the 242 individual 1A and 1AA teams
and then combines them among conferences to arrive at these
figures.

I read other factors into his mathematical formula for
deciding which conference is the toughest (best) conference.

Knowing that the SEC is legion for scheduling Division 1AA
teams in its non-conference schedule, I suspect that the
SEC's strength of schedule (the quality of its opponents)
may not be as strong. Turns out that I am right.

The "tough" SEC played exactly 10 Division 1AA opponents
this season, more than any other conference in the country.
By comparison, the Big 12 played 10, the ACC and Big Ten
played 7 games, the Big East 6, and the Pac 10 only 2.

When I add up the strength of schedule for the 12 SEC teams
I get an average of 30 compared to an average strength of
schedule of 14 for the Pac 10. Who plays the tougher
schedule between the top two dogs? It is easily the Pac 10.

If you are wondering, the team that has played the toughest
schedule during the first 12 weeks of the 2007 college
football season is the Washington Huskies, and that is why
they are ranked No. 1 among the 242 Division 1A and 1AA
schools.

For the record, Nebraska is No. 2, Stanford No. 3,
California No. 4 and Colorado No. 5, so 3 of Top 5 teams in
strength of schedule are from the Pac 10.

Please, do not give me this garbage about the SEC playing
the toughest schedule. The facts and statistics say
otherwise.

Another interesting fact of note is this: Since the NCAA
established the Division 1A and 1AA separation in 1978,
only 5 Division 1A schools have not played a Division 1AA
school: Washington, Southern California, UCLA, Michigan
State and Notre Dame. Again 3 of the 5 teams come from the
Pac 10.

The SEC already has 7 of its 12 teams with 7 or more wins
and bowl eligible by NCCA standards, and now you know one
of the reasons why.

It is the same reason why Hawaii is unbeaten at 10-0,
having defeated two 1AA schools in fattening up its
impressive win record while racking up the 153rd toughest
schedule against the other 119 Division 1A schools.

Sometimes a 1AA school can beat a 1A school (like
Appalachian State beating Michigan at home 34-32), not
because they are necessarily better but because the 1A
school did not take them seriously.

"Ryan's Daughter" Is a Love Triangle with Passion, Adultery, Rebellion and a Village Idiot
Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley

Ryan's Daughter ' 4 Stars (Excellent)

"Ryan's Daughter" is a love story that evolves into a love
triangle set in the epic splendor of an isolated village on
Ireland's scenic Dingle Peninsula. Like all love
triangles, it ends in a disaster that becomes a tragedy.

Rosy Ryan (Sarah Miles) seeks to find that certain
something that is missing in her life and thinks she finds
it when she announces her love for her former
schoolteacher, Charles Shaughnessy (Robert Mitchum), who is
old enough to be her father.

Unfortunately for Rosy, her marriage brings her love but
not passion. It is passion she finds when she meets and
instantly falls into the arms of Major Randolph Doryan
(Christopher Jones), a young British officer assigned to
the village.

Major Doryan is a World War I hero who ends up in the
village as part of the British occupation while the war
continues on in Europe. The villagers resent the British
presence and will jump at a chance to fight for their
freedom.

Tim O'Leary (Barry Foster) leads a resistance force that
awaits the arrival of German weapons so they can finally
arm and defend themselves against the British takeover.

The villagers become aware of Rosy's infidelity through the
village idiot Michael (John Mills) who is mute and
considered a half-wit, but Michael is clever enough to
steal away the major's uniform and medal while he is busy
making love to Rosy in a secluded island cave.

Michael adores Rosy but instinctively knows he has no
chance. He feels a kinship with Major Doryan as they both
suffer from profound limps. Both the limp and shell shock
are from Doryan's war injuries.

Tom Ryan (Leo McKern) is Rosy's father and owner of the
local pub. He is a big freedom talker who is taken at his
word to be a freedom fighter by the rebel leader O'Leary,
who leans on him for support in gathering up the German
weapons that are dropped off at sea and floating to shore.

You just have to see the storm scene, huge waves are
crashing against the rocky shore while villagers are
scrambling to recover broken boxes of rifles, bullets and
dynamite.

When the rebels seek to haul off the weapons stash, they
are met by British soldiers who have been tipped off by Tom
Ryan. O'Leary is shot by Major Doryan and captured while
trying to escape. It is assumed he will be hung for
leading the rebellion.

Once exposed, the villagers consider the unfaithful Rosy to
be the "British officer's whore" as well as a disloyal and
dishonorable informant when in fact it is her father. Ryan,
whose wife has died, has spoiled his daughter growing up,
and it is he who is the silent informer for the British
that is never exposed, even when he has an opportunity to
save his daughter from harm.

The villagers become a mob and eventually beat up Rosy's
husband Charles, strip Rosy naked and cut off her lovely
long hair. This is apparently the ultimate disgrace in an
Irish village, being ostracized and then humiliated.

Major Doryan ends up on the beach with Michael who has
recovered some dynamite. When Doryan realizes his affair
with Rosy is over, he uses the dynamite to commit suicide.

Rosy's husband is aware of her adultery but hopes it will
run its course, and he will be there when it is over. When
he finds he is unable to handle it, he decides to leave
Rosy. They both know that they must leave the village and
are led out of town by Father Collins (Trevor Howard), the
Catholic priest.

Director David Lean had to wait a year before a storm
dramatic enough appeared on the Atlantic Ocean to film the
weapons recovery scene. This turned into a masterpiece of
filming by Freddie Young who won an Oscar for his effort.

Cinematographer Freddie Young captures the raw beauty of
Ireland with its ocean cliffs, green countryside, lazy
pastures and hidden forest love nest. Young shot the film
entirely in a 65mm widescreen format and in Super
Panavision. It was the last such film shot until 22 years
later when Ron Howard filmed "Far and Away" in 1992.

The storm scene is nothing short of spectacular as well as
real. Leo McKern (as Rosy's father Tom) was injured and
badly shaken up while filming the storm sequence and nearly
drowned. McKern was so upset he vowed never to act again
and did not for several years.

The film includes a passionate love scene between Major
Doryan and Rosy who was partially exposed (pretty hot for
a film released in 1970). In addition to Young's Oscar,
John Mills won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his
role as the mute half-wit. Mills bowed at the Academy
Awards ceremony when receiving his Oscar and said nothing
in the shortest acceptance speech in Oscar history.

Sarah Miles received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress
and the film earned another nomination for Best Sound.

Mills also won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.
Sarah Miles (Best Actress) and Trevor Howard (Best
Supporting Actor) won Golden Globe nominations.

A lot of critics at the time were not kind to David Lean as
director of Ryan's Daughter. Lean was no slouch. He
earned two Best Director Oscars for "The Bridge on the
River Kwai" and "Lawrence of Arabia".

Lean was also nominated for a Best Director Oscar for
"Doctor Zhivago" which won 5 Oscars and had 4 other
nominations. Robert Bolt wrote Doctor Zhivago as well as
Ryan's Daughter and "A Man for All Seasons". Bolt was
twice married to Sarah Miles.

Lean would outperform his critics. He was voted the 9th
greatest film director of all time in the BFI (British Film
Institute) "Directors Top Directors" poll in 2002.

Ryan's Daughter is a slow developing romance. The film
runs for 3 hours and 16 minutes. Like almost all of Lean's
films, Ryan's Daughter was hugely popular with moviegoers
and movie lovers alike.

Ryan's Daughter is a story about relationships and an epic
film worth watching.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Newts are a type of amphibian that look a lot like salamanders.
However, unlike salamanders, newts spend most or all of their
life in the water. They are descended from salamanders, but
branched off around sixty million years ago. Now, they're found
in many temperate parts of the world, including Asia, Northern
Africa, Europe, and North America.

Some types have a terrestrial form (referred to as an eft),
that lives on land to find a new home, then come back to the
water when mature. Newts are popular among pond owners. They're
charming, cute little creatures in their own right. However,
having a population of newts also means that your pond is very
healthy, since these creatures have somewhat specific living
requirements. If you're thinking about colonizing your pond with
newts, or setting it up to attract these little creatures,
here's some information that might help.

Newts are often food for other creatures. This means that
having newts might draw some impressive looking birds to your
pond, but it also means you'll have to pay attention to what's
living in and around it if you want to keep your newt population
alive. Carnivorous fish often pick off these little lizard-like
creatures, making it hard to keep the population up. As well, if
there are any ducks frequenting your pond, they may eat the
vegetation your newts are laying their eggs in, giving them no
place to breed. This doesn't mean you have to chase off all
predatory birds or remove newt-eating fish from your pond. It
does mean that it's a good idea to try to provide habitat and
other conditions that encourage a thriving population that won't
be damaged by predation.

Another danger that can kill stocked or native newts is the
pump of a small pond. If you have a smaller pond which requires
a pump for circulation, newts can be sucked into the pump and
killed. Even if you use wire mesh, these pumps can kill very
small newts. You can solve this problem by using an ultra fine
mesh, or by placing your pump underneath a weighted upside down
pot with a hole cut in it. Remember to use mesh over this hole
as well. These methods will cut down on the number of newts you
lose, and on unpleasant filter cleaning.

Newts can live in fairly shallow ponds, and prefer slopes with
lots of plants. High density weeds will encourage them. A good
environment for newts will help you develop a breeding
population that will stand up to even predatory fish and birds.
While tadpoles and young newts may fall prey, a pond that can
support them will encourage their numbers to increase. Expect to
see baby newts around April and May, if your animals are
breeding. You can either make your pond suitable for the local
species of newt that you'd like to attract (specific conditions
vary by species) or purchase newts and stock your pond. The
second is more expensive, but also gives you a better chance of
seeing these animals live and grow in your waters.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
There are many hazards and dangers that gappers can encounter
if they don't do their homework and plenty of research before
setting off. Many of us wish we could blaze a trail across new
frontiers, but the reality is that someone has already been
there, done that, and got the tee shirt. Nevertheless, it's a
good idea to network with those who've gone before you and take
advantage of their knowledge.

Perhaps one of the most important tips is to thoroughly check
out any company before paying money up front! Many of these
companies may profess to be experts who can set up a complete
overseas volunteering package for you. Some companies are
legitimate, but others may not be. No matter how intrepid you
think you are, you wouldn't really want to find yourself stuck
in the jungle surrounded by malaria-ridden mosquitoes without a
reliable lifeline or helping hand back to civilization. Would
you?

I've researched and written blogs and articles about this
subject in the past and the bottom line seems to be 'get the
facts and then double check them, and then check again.' For
many young people it will be their first time away from home
alone - so having reliable and solid support is vital.

Gap Year travel has become the norm, and almost expected of any
self-respecting student. However, it's not just students taking
that year out these days. Many choose to take a gap year as a
career-break, perhaps while switching careers mid life. Mature
travellers have the time and money to set off on adventures and
make up for what they missed out on when younger. No matter what
age or what your plans are, the Internet is sure to play a big
part in planning your gap year. It's a tremendous resource.

Taking a gap year wasn't always an option unless you came from
a very wealthy family. Going back a few centuries, the young
upper classes went on the Grand Tour of Europe as a rite of
passage and part of their education. They were the first gap
year travellers, but they were the privileged few. Our handsome
princes, William and Harry, did their gap year volunteering and
weren't afraid to get their hands dirty. I think we'd all agree
they have turned into terrific young men.

A gap year could encompass volunteering in an overseas work
program. Other options might include working in a ski resort or
dude ranch, an exchange program, a language course or other
course of study, or just taking off on a backpacking Odyssey.
Whichever you choose, it's sure to be an eye-opening and
character building look at other cultures. A large percentage of
the volunteering opportunities will be in African countries, but
there's a need for volunteers in many other parts of the world.
Other popular destinations for gappers and backpackers include
Peru, USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, South America and Chile.

Planning well ahead is essential, especially to ensure you get
all the vaccinations you'll need for the countries you plan to
visit. Make sure your passport has plenty of time left on it and
apply for all the necessary visas. As you'll need to book
long-haul flights in advance it's also important to purchase the
right type of travel insurance - as well as coverage for any
planned sporting activities.

Using the internet social networking sites makes it easy for
travellers to stay in touch with family and loved ones and share
experiences and photos online. I know it's not as fast as
shooting an email through cyberspace but, personally, I still
think it's nice to receive postcards from foreign places with
the colourful native stamps. People don't have time for snail
mail these days.

There doesn't seem to be a downside to taking a gap year. The
best advice is to use the internet to research your destinations
and arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible. Read the
reviews and tips provided by other travellers - they could help
you avoid bad experiences - as well as share in the good ones.
You can network with other travellers, find good value hostels
and places to stay, get in on the best restaurant deals, and
pick up useful backpacking tips.

I heard a good-natured gripe from a young woman who is off
backpacking alone in Southeast Asia. She felt that she was just
following the same route that thousands of others were on and
her experiences were not worthwhile or special. Maybe she should
stop worrying about being unique and just enjoy it and take
advantage of the input and experiences of others. They learned
their lessons the hard way so that she doesn't have to!

Anti-oxidants

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Flavonoids are highly beneficial anti-oxidant compounds found
in many fruits and vegetables, as well as tea, red wine and even
beer, and it's now well established that a plentiful intake of
anti-oxidants through foods, drinks and supplements is vital for
optimal human health.

Anti-oxidants operate to neutralise the activity of so-called
"free radicals"; compounds produced in the body as by-products
of normal biochemical reactions, but which may nevertheless be
highly damaging as they produce oxidative reactions damaging to
cell structures. Ultimately this damage may contribute to the
development of degenerative diseases characteristic of ageing,
including cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's Alzheimer's and
even some cancers.

The best known anti-oxidant nutrients are vitamins C and E,
although these can only function properly when supported by
adequate supplies of a wide variety of micro-nutrients, which
include many of the flavonoids found in common fruits and
vegetables. These compounds may therefore be regarded as
important elements in the body's anti-oxidant defences, but many
of the more than 4,000 flavonoids identified have also been
hailed for their beneficial effects on the immune system and
anti-inflammatory properties.

From the point of view of incorporating flavonoids into a daily
health regime, the good thing is the ease with which this can be
achieved. Flavonoids are very widely found in fruits,
vegetables, and even drinks normally regarded, for other
reasons, as unhealthy. So even a diet ordinarily well provided
with common fruits and vegetables may provide anything up to
800mg of various flavonoids.

Authoritative research has indicated that this level of
flavonoid consumption may help protect against coronary heart
disease and hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), an
important precursor of both heart disease and stroke. These
remain two of the major causes of premature mortality and
disability in the Western world, and to this extent the UK
government and health advisors' frequent advice to consume five
servings of fruit and vegetables each day is well founded.

The most potent of all the anti-oxidant flavonoids is believed
to be a compound called quercetin, which is widely found in
common or garden vegetables. The consumption of fruits with
their skins on, such as apples, pears, grapes, bilberries,
tomatoes etc will also provide a good supply. But perhaps the
richest source is onions, a foodstuff also known since ancient
times as a powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral and
anti-inflammatory agent.

There's no doubt that a diet including plentiful supplies of
fresh fruit and vegetables can only be beneficial to health. But
the anti-oxidant properties of the flavonoids found in many
common, even supposedly unhealthy, beverages should not be
neglected.

For example, the anti-oxidant properties of the catechin
polyphenols found in black and green tea and red wine are now
well known and attested. But, as remarkable as it may sound,
there is now evidence that even beer may contain unique
anti-oxidants equal in potency to vitamin E. The flavonoid
compounds, xanthohumol and isoxanthumol appear to be found only
in beer and the hops that flavour it and although they have not
been studied directly, there is speculation that they may be
responsible for the remarkable and counter-intuitive finding
that lager type beers may be more effective as anti-oxidants
than red wine, grape juice or even green tea. Obviously there
are other reasons, not least its high calorific value, why you
wouldn't want to depend on a high consumption of lager for your
anti-oxidants, but in moderation it may indeed be beneficial.

In fact studies suggest that these particular flavonoid
anti-oxidants may have a particular role in combatting the
oxidation of low density lipids (LDLs), the so–called "bad
cholesterol", which is a known risk factor for the development
of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. The other main
fat-soluble anti-oxidant which fights this process is vitamin E,
and although there is evidence that the anti-oxidant potential
of xanthohumol and isoxanthumol may be comparable with that of
the vitamin, it is also clear that each of the three compounds
functions best in the presence of each of the others.

Whilst orthodox medicine concedes, in fact insists, that
further research is necessary, the implications of these
findings are exciting; suggesting that there may be many more as
yet undiscovered benefits of flavonoids. As always, however, the
holistic functioning of the body means that maximum benefits
will only be obtained by the consumption of the widest possible
variety of all these compounds. As flavonoids are not yet widely
available as supplements, this consumption is best achieved
through the foodstuffs and beverages which combine them as
nature intended. Such a flavonoid rich diet can only be of
benefit to the action of the better known anti-oxidants, such as
vitamins E and C, which are more readily obtainable in
supplement form.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
In a world that seems to be spinning quickly out of control, we
find it difficult to choose what businesses we are involved in,
what products we buy, and what television programs we choose to
watch. It seems that nearly every aspect of business life has a
type of darkness behind it. Businesses use young children from
foreign countries to sew clothing for pennies. Doing chemical
testing on animals to make products and natural resources are
wiped out entirely. Television programs that are rated PG now
carry hidden sexual innuendos and other adult humor. For those
of us who are struggling to refrain from the dark side of
business, the greed, lust and envy, we find it hard to trust in
businesses in general.

The Demand For Moral Based Companies:

Search but you will not find the treasure that you seek. For
the above reasons, a business that is based on moral stands is
hard to find, but when it is, it is golden. You get excited and
begin to tell every man, woman and child the treasure you have
found. This is only natural to share something good with other
people. You become an unpaid spokesman as the excitement of a
trustworthy, moral based company is found. Though companies say
sex sells, there are still millions of consumers who are craving
wholesome entertainment, healthy and natural products,
upstanding content and value, and businesses that we can trust.
There are many of those types of companies out there, you just
need to refine your search to match your core values and
expectations.

Knowing The Consumers Desire:

Perhaps new businesses and entrepreneurs should take the time
to produce and take a survey to see what we, the consumer truly
want to spend our money on. As we become more focused on our
families, our health and our environment we simply want the
best. We want companies who do research without harming animals.
We want to know that the food we eat is not going to cause
cancer or make our hair fall out. We want to know if a company
says money back guarantee, there is no fine print that limits us
because of some absurd company policy that is set in place to
save that company money. Since your expectations may be higher
than most, don't settle for just any company. We all want to be
part of a larger organization or business that has the same
desires and expectations as we do. We want to know if they have
a past record of community involvement on a local or even global
scale. You'll want to find if they have violated any laws or
lost trust with their members. As consumers and potential home
business owners, we all have the need to know.

Possible Future Change In Business Morals:

If companies begin to take this information to heart and put it
in place they would be truly amazed to see their businesses boom
and their profits soar through the roof. Sadly enough far too
many businesses simply care about the green. Money talks and
they respond. They want to make a ton of money, today, right now
and if you or I are not satisfied with the product or service
they provide, so be it. Perhaps there will be a change in how
future businesses are created and where they stand. With talk
of going green, global warming, world hunger, and other global
concerns, we look to companies that take a stand to change these
issues for the better.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Too many business planners end up spending time and money
creating a plan that offers a detail for every little piece of
their business. This is great for getting started to make sure
nothing is left to chance in getting the business off the
ground. For an average business, this type of detailed plan will
probably grow into a 300 page book, or larger and will cover
every minute detail of operating your business.

When it comes time to seek funding, ask yourself who is going
to read it. Many potential investors will tell you they do not
care how many facings of each different brand and style of
peanut butter you will stock on your shelves. Heck, they
probably will not care that you are going to sell peanut butter
at all unless they plan to shop at your store. Many also agree
that business plans looking for money that are thicker than 20
or 30 pages are rarely read and funding seldom given.

If investors, after reading through a brief, well-documented
business plan want more information they will ask for it. If
they are inundated with information they will usually move on to
the next proposed project. They simply do not have time, or
desire to read each and every detail written in to many of the
plans handed to them.

In general, potential investors will be looking for how much
money the business needs to get started, justifying the total
amount as well as how long it will be before the business
expects to turn profitable. Not so much as to how soon they will
be fully repaid with interest, but how long before they can
expect to see money coming back to them.

They will also want to know about the person who will be
running the business. Many investors will want the operator to
have experience in the business. A person planning to open a hot
dog shop, for example, may have 20 years of experience in
management but has never worked in food service, has little to
offer the investor in the way of an incentive to think they may
succeed. On the other hand, if they worked for another hot dog
shop for 10 years and have five years in food service
management, they will feel better about the chances of success.

Regulatory compliance is another hot issue for many investors
as they do not want to see the business closed down for
violating state or federal laws. The business owner, or a
representative, must be knowledgeable about the laws governing
the particular business and have inspection steps in place to
insure compliance with all rules and regulations. Training of
current and future employees is another issue for some
investors, making sure the company's representatives can
responsibly serve the needs of potential customers.

Investors will also look for marketing research, indicating
there is a need for the product or service the business will
provide and that it is large enough to offer sustainability.
Single-sales business rarely survive for long and business that
promise repeat sales to the same customer are often given more
consideration for funding.

A Disturbing Trend in Our Society: The Lack of Trust in Our Institutions - Part 1

The lack of trust for institutions in our society may be
reaching epidemic levels.

This slow, eroding lack of trust has become a widespread
occurrence of an undesirable phenomenon that is ripping at
the very fabric of our social beliefs and habits. A recent
article in USA Today (10-29-07) by Henry Brinton, a
Presbyterian pastor in Virginia, addresses this social
shift in attitudes.

Brinton is "convinced that the Christian faith is becoming
more like Wikipedia and less like Encyclopedia Britannica.
Instead of time-tested religious insights, people are now
accepting 'what others are saying'," a reference to the
fact that any one of 5.5 million registered users of
Wikipedia online can edit the religious information.

In a real sense, sophisticated revisionists can re-write
history on Wikipedia.

One national leader in an Islamic Republic is preaching
that the Holocaust never happened, when in fact the Jews
were among more than 6 million persecuted groups that were
mass murdered under the German Nazi regime from 1941 to
1945 during World War II.

A survey by the National Opinion Research Center at the
University of Chicago has recorded a drop in trust among
social institutions since the 1970s. To wit:

Trust in banks and financial institutions dropped from 35%
to 28%, major companies from 26% to 17%, the nation's press
from 24% to 9%, educational institutions from 36% to 27%,
and organized religion from 35% to 24%.

Apparently some mainline denominational religions that grew
in the 1940s and 1950s and began to lose membership in the
1960s are today one-third smaller than they were 40 years
ago.

They have been replaced by a rise in non-denominational
community congregations that attempt to serve the needs of
their worshippers more directly with contemporary praise
music in worship and a variety of programs aimed at the
needs of children, youths, college students, singles,
couples, women and men.

I have attended some worship services at these New Age
non-denominational community congregations and can attest
to the trend.

As a converted Roman Catholic, I have noticed that many of
the New Age churches are not organized in the sense of
having and following a liturgical year.

A Catholic Mass is predictable anywhere in the world.
There will be the same readings from the Old Testament, the
New Testament and the Gospel that strictly follow the
liturgical year. The priest will give a homily (sermon for
the Protestants) based on the liturgical readings of the
week.

Most New Age congregations will hear the pastor preach on
whatever strikes his or her fancy at the moment. If more
money is needed for a new building or a service program,
the message will be tailored to meet the perceived need of
the moment.

Many of these pastors are charismatic and great speakers
who easily attract a following. If the pastor were to
change congregations or religions, I get the impression
that many in the congregation would follow the pastor and
his message.

The Catholic Church traces its origins to the Apostles and
has 2,000 years of history, liturgy and tradition to
follow. The unfortunate rise and treatment of pedophile
priests has done a grave disservice to the religious
community and its followers, and in itself is enough to
erode trust in organized religion.

It is not mere conversation to say, "If you cannot trust a
Catholic priest, who can you trust?" The fact that there
are religious pedophiles in every Christian denomination
does not excuse any instance of this abhorrent behavior.

Banks and financial institutions have no real need to fall
all over themselves in a fit of righteousness. Some of
these lenders have raised lying, cheating and stealing to
an art form under the guise of legality.

Clearly the law favors subterfuge in financial matters, and
lenders use this cover as an excuse to line their pockets
at the borrower's expense. Bankers think nothing of
looking you straight in the eye and telling you what a good
deal they are giving you, and encourage you to worship at
their feet for the privilege of their services.

What is there to trust when borrowing money from banks and
financial institutions? Not much. They advertise about
giving customer service and customer care but offer little
evidence of doing so when put to the test.

A Disturbing Trend in Our Society: The Lack of Trust in Our Institutions - Part 2
Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley

Major corporations (big businesses) are losing the trust of
consumers as well. Many score record quarterly performances
on the backs of workers and then announce another round of
layoffs to improve their profitability, leaving
technological advances and the workers that are left to
pick up the slack.

Chief executive officers who really have not improved the
company get asked to leave and walk out the door with a
$210 million going away compensation package. This all
looks pretty unfair, not to mention stupid, to workers.

The term "corporate fat cats" represents an injustice to
many workers. If the company board of directors had lost
enough trust in the CEO to fire him, why pay him $210
million in compensation to leave?

Another private-equity firm paid its CEO $400 million for
his services last year, more than a million dollars a day
in income for every day of the year.

What can I say about the nation's press? Only that it does
not even publish the news anymore. Virtually every article
is now "personal journalism" with the author's views about
news events, and the rest of newspapers and newscasts
merely print or broadcast propaganda from their news
sources.

Everyone from Hollywood publicists to politicians to the
White House officials puts their own spin on all news
events. There is no news reporting, only their reaction to
news events based upon whatever pap they are peddling.

Politicians and presidential candidates are so caught up in
carving out their own legacy and future prosperity they
would not recognize or acknowledge the truth unless it
served their own misguided purposes.

If you have not taken the time to notice, being a
politician at the state or national level is one of the
best and most lucrative jobs in America today.

There is so much carping and contentious infighting that
nobody is responsible for anything that happens to the
electorate.

There is also so much lying, cheating, stealing and immoral
behavior going on that should anything good come from our
elected officials it would be more by accident than design.

Politicians view it as a happy accident. They are too
self-centered and self-absorbed in their own wonderfulness
to worry about actually doing something rather than
continually protecting their own power base and perceived
influence.

I believe the majority of Americans are so disgusted with
politicians today that they do not really give a crap about
what they represent because they know that they are not
representing them no matter which party they claim. Count
me in that group.

Even the hallowed ivy halls of our educational institutions
are taking a beating.

Too many tenured professors at many major colleges are not
only practicing their liberal beliefs, they are preaching
their permissive brand of liberalism. They stifle the
exchange of ideas while promoting personal self-expression
with little effort to recognize and teach basic,
fundamental American values, including truth, integrity,
responsibility, accountability and common sense.

Perhaps the only thing more important to them than actually
teaching these basic, respected values is their own ego
trip of self-righteousness. Many of these educated idiots
believe that they can look at any major issue, decide what
is right for everyone based solely on their intelligence,
and then develop a social engineering program to make it
happen.

Far too many of our college students are so brilliant when
they graduate that they know exactly what is right for them
and everyone else, what entitlements they are owed based on
their continued breathing, and are quick to point out
everything that is wrong everywhere.

The fact that they are not nearly as educated and literate
as they think they are is just an aside. Like young people
from every generation, you cannot share anything with them
because they already know everything and can contribute
little to the advancement of society until they grow up and
embrace responsibility, accountability and integrity.

When you have tenured research professors working on
health-related studies that are earning two, three and four
times their salary from the same companies for whom they
are doing the research. You realize there is no integrity
left on campus as conflict and corruption has reached the
highest levels of so-called leadership. No wonder there is
little trust left in our educational institutions.

We look to our traditional churches to teach positive
values, however, these churches are also losing trust among
their followers.

It would appear that many of the leaders of these
institutions will, like common prostitutes, sell themselves
to the highest bidder. For many of these leaders, money
will trump self-respect, integrity will give way to
notoriety, and truth will become irrelevant to purpose.

If I sound like a social critic, I am. For any half-wit
who will pay attention I am giving a clarion call to
action. The good news is that you can rise above the
current circumstances.

Those who would create distrust may sully the environment,
but they cannot force you to follow their errant ways. You
can live and act differently, and I advise you to do so.

NOTE: This is the second part of a two-part series. This is:
Part 2 of Depression Proof Yourself---and Your Kids!
Read Part 1 online at:
http://thePhantomWriters.com/free_content/d/e/depression1.shtml
----------------------------------------------------------

We face more adversity every day. So do our kids.

But some of us thrive, while others drop into dperession, or
worse.

What accounts for that difference?

Adversity, by itself, does not cause depression. Many of us make

adversity worse by taking a pessimistic stance toward it. We
dwell on the worst aspects of what happens to us.

* We think it is PERMANENT ("This is going to last
forever!").

* We think it is PERVASIVE ("It is going to ruin my whole
life!").

* We think it is PERSONAL ("It's all my fault!").

As well as contributing to an overwhelming sense of helplessness

("I can't do anything about this"), such pessimism can lead to

low moods, low achievement, apathy, and poor health. Left
unchecked, helplessness can spiral down into hopelessness ("Why

do anything about anything?). Hopelessness is the prime cause
of suicide.

Pessimism is 50% genetic and 50% learned. We cannot do much about

our gentics, but we can do a lot with the 50% we learned. So
learning how to be more optimistic can make a huge difference in

our lives-and in our kids lives.

Dr. Martin Seligman says we can "immunize" ourselves and our
kids
against depression. The key to depression-proof yourself and
your kids, he says, is twofold:

1) develop "masterful action" (on our own, and in our
youngsters), and

2) develop a flexible, optimistic "explanatory style."

Doing both can result in emotional mastery and an an upward
spirtal of healthy optimism, and increasing resilence.

Masterful Action

Masterful action--the habit of persisting and overcoming
challenges--begins in the crib and can be reinforced throughout
childhood. When, for example, toddlers struggle try to climb up

on a couch, let them figure out their own way to do so.

Don't interfere, except for safety.

"For your child to experience mastery," says Seligman, "it is

necessary for him to fail, to feel bad, and to try again
repeatedly until success occurs."

My father used to tell me, "If you can't do something right, do

not do it!" Then he'd snatch away my tools and finish my
project
for me. I felt stupid and inept.

As well, when I couldn't finish a project on the solar system on

time (because I feared I wouldn't "do it right"), my mother
made
the paper machÈ planets for me.

Both thought they were helping. But they weren't; not in the
long-term.

Fifty years later, I still feel inept when it comes to making or

fixing things. As well, I failed to develop the sense of mastery

that would have come from faling, doing it again, learning, and
succeeding.

Seligman says kids need to feel bad, learn from mistakes, and try

again until they achieve mastery many times before they become
teenagers. If they do not learn to accept diffuciulties and rise

above bad feelings when they are young, they become prime
candidates for depression in their are teens.

"Failure and feeling bad," Seligman says, "are necessary
building
blocks for ultimate success and feeling good."

True self-esteem-in kids and ourselves-comes from feeling good
about doing well at things that matter s. It also comes from
developing a realistically optimistic way of explaining what
happens to us.

Explanatory Style

Explanatory Style is a great predictor of failure or success in
life. It predicts who will become stressed, anxious or depressed

when faced with adversity, and who will sail smoothly through
troubled waters to the rewards on the other side.

Kids pick up their explanatory style from their primary care
giver, ususally mom. So, changing how you explain things to
yourself can help you and your kids take a more realistically
optimistic approach towards what happens.

Realistic optimists rarely suffer from emotional disorders such
as depression.

They see adversity as TEMPORARY ("This won't last").

They see it as SPECIFIC ("Just part of my life is
affected").

They see it as external ("It's not all my fault).

As a result, they are more resilient than pessimists.

They realize they have control over adversity and its outcomes-if

only their responses. They limit adversity's reach into their
lives. Moreover, they know that the adversity will not endure
forever.

Dr. Paul Stoltz, author of Adversity Quotient has shown
ownership-being accountable for the results you want, regardless

of what happens, or who is at fault-helps you persevere, and
create what matters. Those who score high on ownership persist
where others quit. They succeed where others fail.

Changing Your Explanatory Style

Changing your response to what happens can help your children
change theirs.

A first step is listen to your own self-talk-the stream of
thoughts, beliefs, stories, judgments, and conclusions that
runs through your mind.

We usually don't know we do it, or that it affects our moods and

behaviors, but we constantly comment to ourselves on our lives,
our actions, other people and their actions. We pass judgment
on what happens to us, and why. Too often, we indulge in self-
defeating, "shoulda, coulda, and woulda" thinking.

Unfortunately, this constant nattering affects our moods and
emotions. "Emote," means, "to move". Our emotions give rise

to our actions, and our results.

Unnoticed, self-talk and the emotions it generates, can move us
in ways we don't want to move. Much self-created grief is, for

example, caused by "shoulding" on ourselves, others, and the
world.

"I should have know better." "It should have happened like
this." "I should be smarter (or prettier, or thinner, or
richer,
etc...)

But, simply changing "I should have..." to "Next time I
will...",
for example, can have an amazing effect on both your emotions and

behaviors.

Another way to change explanatory style is note the differences
between a pessimistic style and a realistically optimistic one.
Practice using the optimistic style to explain what happens. I
am sure you will discover that both your moods and the results
you create improve.

Together with masterful action (learning to create what matters
most-with whatever life gives you), developing a more optimistic

way of explaining what happens will help you and your kids
develop optimism, resilience, and persistence in the face of
adversity.

It will help you regain that spark of vitality. It will give you

energy to do what matters. It will make life worth living
again.

Masterful action and explanatory style are true basics. They are

critical life skills we and our kids need to thrive in
challenging times. The time to start working on them is now.

Do you feel tired too much of the time. Or sad, empty? Has life

lost its spark? Does your body have the blues? Have you felt
this way for more than a few weeks?

Do you wonder, "Am I depressed? Or just out of sorts?"

These days, many wonder if they are depressed. And with good
reason.

"More ... people die of depression than of AIDS, heart disease,

pneumonia, cancer and strokes put together," writes Gerrard
Nicci
in a Guardian review of Andrew Solomon's book The Noonday Demon:

An Atlas of Depression.

"One in 10 people in America is on drugs to help their moods.
Five percent of its teenagers are clinically depressed. Fifteen

percent of people who are depressed eventually kill
themselves."

Recent Statistics Canada reports indicate the situation might be

worse. One in three Canadians, they say, suffer from
depression.

And it is not just grown-ups; it is also our kids.

Consider this scenario: Johnny's seems sad and listless, easily

irritated. He's not interested in regular activities. He drags

himself around the house complaining he's "bored."

His mom worries he is depressed. His dad disagrees.

"It is just got a case of the blues. It will blow over."

He tells Johnny to "pull himself together."

Is Johnny depressed? Or just temporarily down?

Twenty years ago, Dad might have been right. Now, Mom is likely

right.

Depression in teens, says Dr. Martin Seligman, past president of

the American Psychological Society and author of The Optimistic
Child, has reached "epidemic" proportions. Suicide, often
related to depression, is the number two killer of teens in
Canada. Moreover, depression strikes earlier in life than ever
before.

So, how do you know if you--or--your child is depressed?

There are three types of depression. Major depression, chronic
low-level depression, and manic-depression (bipolar disorder).
I'll focus on the first two.

Symptoms of major depression are much the same in children as
in adults:

* Sadness, anxiety, or "empty" feelings

* Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"

* Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities

* Sleep disturbances (insomnia, oversleeping, waking much
earlier than usual)

* Appetite or weight changes (loss or gain)

* Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering

* Irritability or excessive crying

* Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, and worthlessness

* Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts

* Chronic aches and pains not explained by another physical
condition.

It's normal for us and our kids to be down from time to time.

However, if you or your child show five or more of the symptoms
of major depression and they last for two or more weeks, you
should get help from a mental help professional.

A less intense version of depression (dysthymia) involves long-
term, chronic, but less severe symptoms that can nevertheless
keep you or your child from functioning fully or feeling well.

The U.S. National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) says
dysthymia is diagnosed when a person suffers from at least two of

the depressive symptoms above, and their depressed mood lasts for

at least two years in adults, or one year in children or
adolescents.

While dysthymia is not as serious as major depression, the NIMH
warns that many people with dysthymic disorder also experience
major depressive episodes.

Unfortunately, it's not always easy to diagonose ourselves, or
see symptoms in children. When they feel bad for long periods,
many blame themselves, or circumstances, and fail to reach out
for understanding, and help.

Do not blame yourself. If you think you might be depressed,
talk to someone. A friend, family, priest, rabbi, pastor,
or spiritual advisor, your doctor, a school nurse or
counselor-anyone!

Talking with others who understand is the first step to
recognizing depression. It also helps you develop the
emotional mastery you need to rise above it.

Kids can't always explain how they feel, and they express
symptoms differently at different ages. Instead of telling
you they feel "worthless" or "hopeless," they may act out
or be irritable. Other signs to be on the lookout for are:

* A drop in school attendance or grades

* Talk of running away from home

* Alcohol or other drug use/abuse

* Reckless, risky behavior

* Difficulty with relationships

* Extreme sensitivity to rejection or failure

* Outbursts of shouting, complaining, unexplained irritability,

or crying.

Teens are more at risk for depression than children.

Moreover, children, says Dr. Seligman, "do not become
hopeless."
They rarely commit suicide.

But early-onset depression and chronic low-level depression are
serious. They can put your child at risk for major depression
later in life.

If you suspect a child is suffering from depression, try gently
talking with them. Listen carefully and respectfully; stay aware

of their feelings. Sometimes just being there for them can make

a dramatic difference.

If in doubt about yourself or your child, do seek professional
help. Talk to your doctor. Contact your community health
services or the local Mental Health office. Most phone books
have Crisis Lines listed in the front. They will direct you to
appropriate help.

Don't worry, for now, about what caused the depression. The key

is to get help for yourself and/or your child sooner rather than

later. Depression can be successfully treated, often without the

use of drugs.

The best treatment for depression is cognitive-behavioral therapy

(CBT). A time-limited therapy (6 to 12 weeks), CBT helps
sufferers identify--and change--the pessimistic views of
themselves and their future that give rise to negative emotions
and behaviors.

Although medication can be useful in some cases of major
depression, it is often prescribed indpendent of counselling.
I don't recommend that. Drugs mask the symptoms. To rise above

symptoms and develop effective behaviors, it is important to also

get counselling such as CBT.

Moreover, because it is skill-based, CBT works better than drugs.

You do not have to go off it. Once learned, you can use its
emotional mastery skills for ever.

Perhaps more important than its role in treatment is the fact
that CBT principles are the best tools for preventing depression

and emotional discorders such as anxiety, panic, and burn-out.

CBT principles such as "explanatory style" provide you with
tools
to depression-proofing yourself-and your kids! We will look at

prevention and tools for emotional mastery in part 2 of this
article-Building Healthy Optimism and Lasting Resilience.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
What options are available to you when it comes to writing
cover letters? If you don't write them yourself, you have to
consider either paying a ghostwriter to do it for you or buying
software that can automate the process. Both options are
expensive, so it is better to go on and write it yourself if you
can. But where do you start if you do not know how to create a
cover letter. The answer is by evaluating a sample cover letter.

Where are the best places to find a sample cover letter? Many
cover letter books will provide a lot of sample cover letters,
but unless you get these books from the library you will have to
pay for them. So the better option is trying to find a good
sample cover letter off of the Internet. The best way to do this
is to type in the keyword "sample cover letter" plus whatever
industry you are trying to get into. This is because if you just
type in "sample cover letter", you will get sample cover letters
for all types of jobs. While this may still be of assistance to
you, it is better that you get a sample cover letter that is
written for the specific position you are applying for.

Depending on the sample cover letter you have access to, you
may have an automatic template you can use for creating your own
cover letter. What is a template? It is simply a document that
contains a predefined layout. This layout usually covers font
face, font size and graphic design. In terms of the text, you
would replace what is already written with your text. And since
the template would be coming from a sample cover letter, you
would already have what you need to appropriately create your
own text. However, don't be tempted to copy any portion of the
text found in your sample cover letter. Not only is it
plagiarism, but it is downright lying. Plus, with services like
http://Copyscape.com, employers can tell whether or not the
contents a cover letter were genuinely written or simply stolen
from a sample cover letter. Remember, only use your sample cover
letter as a guide for writing. If you really like how a phrase
is worded within a sample cover letter, consider using a
thesaurus to figure out a different way to express it.

If you're interested in helping others write cover letters
while making a little bit of extra money, consider showcasing
your own sample cover letters that would no longer be of use to
you because you decided to switch career paths. To make money
doing this, you would have to enroll in Adsense, a program that
pays you each time a person clicks on your ads. Your website
content would be a perfect draw for visitors, since there can
never be enough sample cover letters to look at. If you provide
enough sample cover letters on your site, hopefully your visitor
will stay long enough that they will be interested in your
Adsense ads. Just make sure that any and everything on your
website was written by you and that you don't plan on continuing
to use the cover letters. If you do you might be falsely accused
of plagiarism, if your employer finds that the cover letter has
already been used, (which it would be because it's on your
site).

Lighted Wall Fountains for a Hollywood Style Home

Lighted wall fountains are becoming all the rage and it's no
wonder why. While all water fountains and water features, be
they wall fountains, cast stone or slate fountains or indoor
waterfalls, can liven up the drabbest interiors. It is
illumination that can truly bring out their magical effects.
When the sun goes down and all is dark, a wall fountain, helped
by some imaginative illumination, helps bring out hidden accents
in the design that may have not been visible in the daylight.
The color of the polished river stones, urns, basins, and other
objects and adornment that complement the fountain can be
highlighted by the use of clever lighting.

Lighted Wall Fountains Bring Out Hidden Accents

Almost always, wall fountains will look better when they are
illuminated. Think of the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas. It's
one of the most enduring and endearing symbols of the city,
beside the clubs on the Strip of course! The Bellagio Fountains
are beautiful by day, expansive and large scale as they are. But
it's at night, accented with spectacular illumination and
complemented by music, that the sheer overwhelming beauty of the
iconic fountain is made clear.

For those who wish to add such illuminated fountain magic to
your home, without having to purchase the next 4 houses on the
block to make room for the new fountain, lighted wall fountains
provide the answer. Not to mention, you can choose your own
soundtrack to accompany the sophisticated luminance of your wall
fountain in the comfort of your home. Learn more about the
benefits of adding wall fountains to your home, yard, or garden
at http://www.witch-crafted.com/garden8.htm.

A Wall Fountain Offers Imaginative Illumination

The use of light is one of the oldest and most invisible tools
that an artist can utilize. It is with skilled placement that
the magic of illumination occurs successfully. The beauty of a
lighted water feature can be traced to more than the positioning
of bulbs. Too much light and the intricate details will wash
away, not enough and the sculptural accents will be obscured by
darkness. These lights have to be strategically placed for the
true beauty of the fountain to shine through. For instance,
imagine a fountain that shows a girl pouring a pitcher of water.
The effect is beautifully enhanced when fully lit.

Consider; however, if the illumination was to include only the
statue of the girl and the falling water, but exclude the point
at which the water hits the base. Then you have the illusion of
water falling into unseen depths. This creates a spectacular and
intriguing effect. This is the power of illumination, the power
to tantalize and provoke. Lighted wall fountains present
countless such possibilities. Any interior designer will
certainly attest to the intrinsic value of lighting in the
creation of well defined interior space. With the use of some
imagination, and the right amount and color of illumination,
lighted wall fountains can enthrall and awe the viewer. Find out

Energy Costs May Cost You Your Youtube And Your Flowers, Too
Copyright (c) 2006-2008 Wesley Berry, AAF
Wesley Berry Flowers
http://www.800wesleys.com/

We're all struggling with rising energy costs. For some,
that could mean giving up the luxuries we enjoy, like the
Internet connection that allows us to use YouTube. But, for
people in the flower business, the cost could be even
higher.

Increasing energy costs are having an enormous impact on the
floral industry. Running a greenhouse requires a great deal
of energy for heating and other operations. Unfortunately,
those costs have to be passed on to the consumer. And, since
consumers are also struggling to pay their own energy bills,
they have less money left over to purchase flowers.

According to the Floriculture and Nursery Crops Outlook
report that was released on September 22, 2006, rising
energy costs are having a similar affect on the flower
industry as they are on the food industry. Alberto Jerardo,
author of the report, wrote, "In 2005 and 2006, higher
petroleum prices led to greater price inflation in the food
and agriculture sector as costs rose for fertilizer,
storage, processing, and transport, among others. Thus, as
in 2005, demand in 2006 will be subdued despite abundant
floral and nursery crops. As a result, prices of greenhouse
and nursery crops will again be unable to rise enough to
offset their higher production costs."

Other findings disclosed in the report are:

* The value of imported fresh cut flowers is more than
double the value of domestic fresh cut flowers sold.
Domestic flowers had a value of about $385 million while
imports had a $750 million value.
* Flower growers in the Southern parts of the U.S. are
enjoying the fastest sales growth, while those in the
Midwest also experienced some increased sales. On the other
hand, growers in the West and Northeast saw a decrease in
sales.
* Lilies are the most popular of major cut flowers. They
have the highest per household consumption at 66 cents in
2006 compared to 34 cents for roses and tulips.
* Domestically grown lilies, alstroemeria, and carnations
had price increases this year, while imported cut flowers
had no price increase.

Flowers have become such an important part of American
culture that we can only hope rising energy costs won't
result in people having to forgo the positive aspects
flowers add to our lives. After all, for most of us, flowers
would be a much greater loss than YouTube.

One of the most important aspects of almost any job in a modern
auto workshop is getting the area that you are working on as
clean as possible. Removing dirt and debris from the area where
you want to carry out a repair makes finding and isolating the
problem much easier, and makes fixing it simple. While it is
possible under certain circumstances to use solvents and other
cleaning agents to get an area ready to work in, the best air
tool to properly prepare an area and remove the dirt that can
compromise your repair is a needle scaler.

Needle scalers are one of the most important air tools in a
modern mechanic's armory, and have literally hundreds of
different uses in the workshop. These are simple but effective
air tools that are amongst the most efficient method of clearing
debris from an area to prepare it for work.

A needle scaler is an air tool that replies on a supply of
compressed air that forces a piston backwards and forwards. This
piston is connected to a number of very fine chisels that
resemble needles. By pushing the needles forward at a very high
speed – up to around 5000 times per second – the needle scaler
is able to rapidly chip away at any debris in an area and clear
it back to bare clean metal in a matter of seconds without the
need for any expensive and messy solvents or other cleaning
products.

The secret of the success of a needle scaler is the fact that
it works at such high speeds. Because the chisels move so fast,
they only need to move a small distance, which means that the
tool is incredible accurate and precise when used. Someone who
is experienced in using a needle scaler will find that it is an
excellent way of removing paint, rust, and other things from a
surface with a minimum of fuss.

The air tool can be held in a similar manner to a large pen,
and gradually used to clean a surface to a very high standard
quickly. Different products are available that offer different
numbers of needle points, or work at higher or lower power
speeds. When choosing a needle scaler for your workshop, there
are a number of factors to consider including the price you are
willing to pay, and how much you are going to use the tool. If
you are likely to use needle scalers a lot – and most mechanics
find that they are – it makes sense to buy one that will go the
distance, and will clean effectively to reduce the amount of
time a job takes.

Ingersoll Rand needle scaler, one of the top names in air
powered tools produce a standard duty needle scaler that Red
Hill Supply has on sale at around $165, which is a real bargain
considering that the recommended price is more than $300. This
tool has 19 needles and pumps out at 4600 cycles per minute,
making it very effective at cleaning even the hardest
contamination from an area.

Florida Pneumatic offers a similarly priced needle scaler which
has been designed with a pistol style grip to make it more
comfortable in use, and easier to poke into confined areas. The
FPT 1050 offers lower levels of power than the Ingersoll Rand
product, with a maximum speed of 2700 cycles per minute in
normal use. The tool weighs around 4 ½ pounds, which means that
it is still light enough to use for short jobs, but you may find
it tiring to clean larger areas using it.

If you don't yet require the power of one of the high end
needle scalers from Ingersoll Rand, then it is probably still
worth considering something like the lightweight pneumatic
scraper kit from Astro Pneumatic. At less than $45, this tool is
perfectly adequate for light surface cleaning, and can even
remove spot welds with a little effort. While it may not have
the effectiveness of a more powerful needle scaler, it will
still give acceptable results in most cases.

It's no secret. We love dogs. In fact, according to the
American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, more than 40
million American households share their lives with more than 68
million dogs.

A messy house, however, is something we don't love. And it
seems like dogs go out of their way to get dirt, hair, stains,
and odors, and all manner of nasty things everywhere.

Fortunately there are a few things you can do to "dog proof"
your home. You'll learn about them below, along with some easy
ways to clean up those unavoidable doggy messes.

Preventing dog hair

If your dog sheds, as most do, you're probably familiar with
how irritating dog hair can be. It gets all over the carpet,
furniture, rugs, and pretty much everywhere else the dog goes.

You can drastically cut down on the amount of hair that is shed
by grooming your dog often. Once a week, take your dog outside
and give its fur a good combing with the type of brush
recommended for its coat. Give him lots of praise and maybe a
few treats so he'll come to love his grooming time.

Be sure to groom him away from the house so that the hair isn't
blown back into the house.

Regular grooming will not only make your dog more attractive
and happier from the extra attention, it will spare your sofa
and carpet from all that extra fur.

Removing dog hair

Even if you regularly groom your dog, chances are some stray
hairs will still end up where they aren't wanted.

A damp cloth works wonders for removing hair from furniture and
other surfaces. A lint roller is another fantastic tool for
getting rid of hair. It will allow you to quickly roll up stray
hairs. A lint roller is perfect for a quick furniture check
before company arrives!

A powerful vacuum should have no problem pulling dog hair out
of rugs and carpets.

Rugs and mats are your friends

Rubber-backed mats collect dirt and moisture and clean up
easily. Use them outside and inside doors, under food dishes,
and in sleeping areas. Even car mats will do.

Wipe off those paws

Train your dog to wait on the rug or mat until you wipe off his
paws with a damp rag or towel. This will keep him from making
mud tracks all over the house.

It might take a little extra time to get him trained, but
you'll spend much more time cleaning up after him if you don't
train him to wait.

Doggie dishes

Stainless steel feeding dishes are the best choice for your
dog. They are heavy and hard to topple by your over-enthusiastic
pet. Be sure to wash it regularly.

Dog Allergies

If you or a family member is allergic to dogs there are a few
things you can do to make life easier.

Restrict your dog to certain rooms of your home to create
allergy-free areas. Bedrooms, especially, should be a no dog
zone.

Use an air purification device to reduce allergens. These are
also great at reducing odors. Keep your home well ventilated as
well.

Copyright © 2007 Ed Bagley

A Man for All Seasons ' 4 Stars (Excellent)

A Man for All Seasons poses the question: What would a man
sacrifice for his principles?

When King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) seeks approval to
divorce his aging wife Catherine of Aragon who could not
bear him a son, and marry his mistress Anne Boleyn, the
Pope and the Roman Catholic Church stand in his way.

Henry VIII's new Chancellor of England and Cardinal--Sir
Thomas More (Paul Scofield)—stands in his way as
well. Henry VIII wants Sir Thomas More's blessing in his
action but does not get it as Sir Thomas More, a good
Catholic and Cardinal, will not go along with such heresy.

More resigns as chancellor, seeking to live out his life as
a private citizen, but Henry VIII will settle for nothing
less than More's public approval of his headstrong course.
Sir Thomas refuses to either endorse or denounce the King's
action, and remains a man of principle.

Great effort is made to convince More to change his stance
on Henry VIII's action. One of More's rivals, Thomas
Cromwell (Leo McKern); another religious, Cardinal Wolsey
(Orson Welles); and The Duke of Norfolk (Nigel Davenport)
all take their turns at More.

One example is when More testifies before an inquiry
committee and Norfolk attempts to persuade him to sign an
oath of allegiance:

Norfolk: "Look, I'm not a scholar, and frankly I don't know
whether the marriage was lawful or not—but Thomas,
look at these names! You know these men! Can't you do as
I did and come along with us for fellowship?"

More: "And when we stand before God, and you are sent to
Heaven for doing according to your conscience, and I am
sent to hell for not doing according to mine, will you come
along with me—for fellowship?"

There are several lines by More that merit mention but
there is not enough space to do so. Here is one of the
best: "I think that when statesmen forsake their own
private conscience for the sake of their public duties,
they lead their country by a short route to chaos."

Sir Thomas More was a very smart and savvy—as well as
principled—man.

Henry VIII gets every person of any consequence in England
to sign his oath (the Act of Supremacy), endorsing his
action, except Sir Thomas who will not sign, and remains
silent as to the reason why he will not sign.

Cromwell is an English statesman and the chief minister to
King Henry VIII. It is Cromwell who presides over King
Henry's divorce from Catherine of Aragon in 1533 and
Henry's subsequent break with the Roman Catholic Church.

When More proves himself to be loyal to King Henry VIII by
not speaking out against him and also shows himself to be a
loyal subject by not inciting rebellion, Cromwell appears
to prosecute Sir Thomas out of personal spite.

In the end, Sir Thomas is the only person in England who
will die for his principles, and commit himself to God for
judgment. He is betrayed by an ambitious, lower level
appointed attorney general, Richard (John Hurt), whose
outright lie condemns Sir Thomas to be beheaded.

Sir Thomas More loses his head (no pun intended) but most
importantly, not his soul. Sir Thomas is later canonized as
Saint Thomas More by the Roman Catholic Church.

Henry VIII subsequently dies of syphilis, and the evil
Thomas Cromwell who orchestrates Sir Thomas More's tragic
demise is himself judged a traitor to England 5 years later
and is also beheaded.

The riff subsequently leads to England's split from the
Roman Catholic Church and the creation of the Anglican
Church, the Church of England.

A Man for All Seasons does not deviate from the truth of
Sir Thomas More's stance, and as such provides a role model
for acting with right thinking and right motives, even at
the cost of one's life.

What makes A Man for All Seasons even more impressive is
that the plot for the movie is based on the true story of
Sir Thomas More. Sir Thomas More was a scholar and
statesman who became the leading humanist of the
Renaissance Era.

A Man for All Seasons is a story about everything that is
right in England and life (Sir Thomas More's integrity to
his principles) and everything that is wrong in England and
life (greed, avarice, lust, lying, cheating, stealing, the
corruption of power, and the corruption of religious
leaders).

A Man for All Seasons was writer Robert Bolt's greatest
success, first as a play and then as the screenplay for its
1966 movie release following a successful Broadway run.
Bolt's 16th Century period piece has exacting details of
the era.

A Man for All Seasons would win 6 Oscars at the 1967
Academy Awards: Best Picture (Fred Zinnemann), Best
Director (Fred Zinnemann), Best Writing (Robert Bolt), Best
Actor (Paul Scofield), Best Cinematography (Ted Moore) and
Best Costume Design (Elizabeth Haffenden and Joan Bridge).

The film also received Oscar nominations for Best
Supporting Actor (Robert Shaw) and Best Supporting Actress
(Wendy Hiller as Sir Thomas More's wife Alice).

In addition the movie garnered another 27 wins and 5
nominations, including Golden Globe wins for Best Picture,
Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor and a
nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Interestingly, Charlton Heston lobbied heavily for the role
of Sir Thomas More, but was not seriously considered.
Richard Burton was offered the part and turned it down.

The producers originally wanted Laurence Olivier as Thomas
More and Alec Guinness as Wosley, but Director Fred
Zinnemann insisted on Paul Scofield and Orson Welles in the
roles. The rest is history. Zinnemann obviously knew how
to direct a great film and a huge box office success.

All About Shutters
http://www.AllAboutShutters.com

There are many factors that contribute to selecting the right
covering for your window. The main functional reasons to install
window coverings are light control and privacy. Additional
factors include durability, life expectancy, cleaning,
versatility, formality, attractiveness, safety, and price.

Light Control

The most difficult functional factor to control is light, and
most window coverings fall in one of five categories:

* Transparent - Clear, without obstruction * Translucent -
Diffused light, preventing perception of distinct images *
Filtered - Muted light in bright conditions * Semi-Opaque -
Surfaces impenetrable by light, yet allows some light through
gaps * Opaque (or Black-Out) - Blocks all light

Transparent describes an open window with clear glass. Few
windows are left completely open unless the building is in a
private setting with foliage or an overhang that block direct
sunlight.

Translucent describes a window covering that is sheer or with
components that are spaced for privacy. Included in this category
are light fabric drapes and bamboo shades.

Filtered window coverings allow subtle transmissions of light.
This grade includes medium fabric drapes and most mini-blinds.

Semi-opaque defines window coverings that almost block all light,
allowing some light into the room through narrow gaps or along
the edges. Shutters are a prime example of window coverings in
this category.

Opaque (or black-out) window coverings block out all light. Few
coverings can completely prevent direct sunlight from penetrating
the window. Some roll shades on the market claim to be able to
block all light.

Intense or direct sunlight can be difficult visually, fade carpet
and furniture, and contribute to unwanted heat in warm months.
Closed blinds, drapes, or shutters can significantly reduce the
affects of all of these annoyances. Often, sunlight is a welcome
addition to the home. It can brighten dark interiors and help
heat a house on cold winter days. A successful window treatment
will convert most of the window to be transparent when desired.
Many window coverings can open to allow a view of 80% or more
through the window. Most window coverings are easy to use and can
transform from an open to a closed position without much effort.

Privacy

Privacy can be easily achieved with almost any window covering.
The window treatment simply needs to be translucent or better to
diffuse distinct images. Even frosted glass or glass block can
give adequate levels of privacy.

Durability and Expected Life

By nature, a window opening is a harsh environment subject to
direct sunlight, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures.
Accompany these factors with frequent use and it is easy to
understand why window coverings need to be well constructed. The
overall life expectancy is usually less for fabric window
treatment that can fade over time. Solid window coverings, such
as shutters, have an extensive life expectancy.

Cleaning

All window coverings will collect dust and dirt. Fabrics are the
most difficult to clean and are the most subject to stains.
Furniture-quality window coverings will generally wipe clean with
a light solution.

Versatility and Formality

Some window coverings work well in formal environments and others
work best in casual living situations. Alternate window coverings
are versatile and blend well with almost any room.

Style and Overall Attractiveness

A particular window cover might meet all of the functional needs,
but if it is not attractive, there is no reason to proceed.
Today's window fashions come in thousands of colors and
patterns, providing a number of options for any decor.

Safety

Small children in the home can, and will, have contact with
window coverings. Some treatments have cords to raise or lower
for visibility. These could become a considerable hazard if they
are within reach.

Window Design

Window configuration can limit the number of window coverings
that can be used in a particular space. Shallow windows, trim
molding with larger corner blocks, and bay (or bow) windows
usually require special installations.

Price

While there is a large discrepancy in the cost of window
coverings, it is important to weigh the overall value. The term
value is overused in this consumer marketing society, but when
purchasing long-term household items it is necessary to consider
the return on investment. Window coverings on the low end of the
price spectrum generally have a short life expectancy and low
durability. Higher priced window coverings, like shutters, are
designed to last the life of the home and retain its original
character. Although more expensive, they will not need to be
replaced.

Did you start your day with Love or Hate? Discover how to improve
the quality of your life by asking this one simple question
daily!

Alone!

Lost!

It had been three days since he had gotten separated from the
rest of his commando team, and he was deep in the heart of the
Norwegian mountains struggling through a blinding snowstorm,
praying that he would find his way out of it.

The time was World War II and all he knew, was that if he didn't
find shelter or help soon he would lose his feet. They were
already so frozen that he had taken off his army boots and slung
them over his shoulders. Now, he was trudging through the deep
snow barefooted and unable to feel his feet.

Strong feelings of fear that he might not survive made him feel
panicky inside. He needed a miracle desperately. But it seemed
his prayers had gone unheard, as three days had already gone by.
His rations were gone and so was his hope. But his desire to
survive to tell the tale was excruciatingly intense.

As Tony recounted his story to me, I wondered why he said that he
had lost his faith and belief in God wjhen here he was, some
forty years later, telling me what had happened to him.

It seemed that as he had fought against the snowstorm and
freezing cold, he also had fought against an inner foe that he
could not see but one that he could only feel. The inner enemy
gripped him with intense feelings of fear, despair, rage, grief,
self-pity, helplessness and hopelessness. He lamented to me that
he wondered at the time,

"Why is this happening to me? Why has God abandoned me?"

When I asked Tony how he managed to survive, he said that he had
unexpectedly stumbled out of the mountains and appeared at the
edge of a small village. What a spectacle he must have made as he
stepped out of the blinding snow, in his barefeet, with his boots
drapped over his shoulders and his rifle in his hands. The
miracle he desired had happened! He had found his way to a
community of people who helped him to physically heal and
recover. But he had not recovered and healed emotionally because
he was still feeling that God had abandoned him.

My question to Tony, was,

" If you could have seen the bigger picture would you have only
believed in what your five senses were telling you?"

Maybe you weren't abandoned by God. Maybe the real problem you
had was that there were major gaps in your data base as to how to
recognize and deal with your real enemy...your emotions!

Don't get me wrong. A snowstorm is a snowstorm. But our feelings
about what is going on outside of us also contribute greatly to
how we handle the external events.

My question to you is this.

Do you find yourself in overwhelming situations where there seems
to be no way out?

Your story may not be under the harsh conditions Tony
encountered, but the reality is that anytime the emotions rule
you, you've already lost the battle! Berating or belittling
yourself only adds to your already damaged belief system that you
should have done better. Shutting them down (stuffing or denying
them) only prolongs your misery or life difficulties.

One of the secrets is to come to the realization that it is never
you who has the problem! I'll repeat this. It is never you who
has the problem!!! It is your data base - the thoughts and
feelings held in your computer (your mind, heart, cells of your
body - your subconscious belief patterns) that is missing some
essential information you require for you to make a different
choice.

Understand that you are not to blame.

YOU are O.K.

Your behaviors may not have been the best but you are O.K. This
does not mean that I am condoning past harmful behaviors. I am
only acknowledging that if you had known differently, you would
have done differently!

When you come to grips with the fact that you are OK, along with
the idea that if you had more data, you would have made different
choices, you will then truly be on the first step in your journey
to emotional freedom!

At this moment, you may be feeling just the opposite. As well,
your life may not continue to be the way you want it to be.
However, when you reflect on the above idea, that you are O.K.,
and can accept this fact, then you will experience an inner
peacefulness! You will know that you did the best you could at
the time and will be able to truly feel in your heart (emotions)
that you now have the freedom to make different choices. Choices
that you may have never felt you had before.. Additionally, your
behaviors will begin to reveal your new found freedom and inner
peace. In fact, the quality of your life will improve.

To-day, will you give yourself permission to realize that you
are not to blame?

Will you take ownership for your feelings...to feel them, deal
with them and heal from their ongoing e-motional sabotage?

Or, will you continue to let your life get so out of control,
that you will want to give up and just let the chips fall where
they may?

The choice is yours!

A Career Alternative
Copyright (c) 2008 Lisa Mazurka
Clinical Research Consulting, Inc.
http://www.eclinicalresearchconsulting.com

The clinical research industry is a rapidly growing field. One
can't turn on the television or read the newspaper without
hearing about the latest and greatest drug approved by the FDA.
With this growth, come new and exciting job opportunities for the
healthcare industry.

The clinical research industry has been responsible for bringing
numerous careers to the forefront for healthcare professionals.
One profession in particular, has been greatly impacted by this
new growing enterprise; nurses.

Particularly, nurses involved in direct patient care are taking
the opportunity to transition from standard clinical care to
roles within the clinical research industry, especially given the
demands on nurses have become greater due to nursing shortages
and numerous healthcare policy changes.

The clinical research coordinator role has become a popular and
sought after career alternative for nurses. Clinical research
coordinators serve to aid in the coordination, management and
conduct of clinical research under the supervision of a
designated physician/investigator. Despite the interest and
eagerness of nurses to leap into this alternative career, it is
not always an easy transition. At least two major obstacles are
often hurdled by nurses; 1) lack of a clear, defined job position
of the clinical research coordinator and 2) lack of education and
training to perform the responsibilities in this new occupation.

A concrete, defined role for the clinical research coordinator is
not well defined in the industry literature. In fact, the ICH GCP
guidelines do not even include a definition for clinical research
coordinator in the definitions section (although you will find
the role of the investigator defined). In a study conducted by
Spilsbury, et. al., 1 the roles, responsibilities and
contributions of clinical research nurses were evaluated.
Findings reported that the clinical research nurse's role can
influence the quality of the research; however the scope of this
role was poorly defined. Further, they analyzed the transition
process from a clinical care nurse to a clinical research
nurse's role through a nursing focus group, and found that the
clinical research nurses reported lack of confidence, role
conflict, challenges in gaining the cooperation of the global
nursing staff, and difficulties maintaining motivation within
their newly defined role.

The second hurdle facing nurses in this new role is lack of
clear, defined responsibilities which can lead to confusion and
misinterpretation. Further, nurses are often not familiar with or
have not been exposed to the specific knowledge or background
required to perform within the function of this position.

To help ease this career transition process and avoid many of the
issues cited by Spilsbury and his colleagues, education and
training is a key factor for a successful career transition.
Without the proper training and education prior to and during
this transition, nurses (and often the physicians supervising the
research and their designated role) are unaware that among
specific job requirements and responsibilities, there are also
federal regulations which they must abide by in the conduct of
clinical research. Further, they are often unaware that there are
specific guidelines (Good Clinical Practice guidelines) which
should be followed. Often, this inexperience results in a naïve
but true noncompliance with the law. Often times, federal
violations resulting from lack of education and training are
found during FDA audits through the FDA's Bioresearch Monitoring
Program.

Despite the importance and growing interest in the clinical
research coordinator role we continue to face challenges and
resistance in supporting education and training for clinical
research coordinators. Bakker, et. al., 2 evaluated a group of
oncology nurses and their perception of research. The study
concluded that the respondents valued research and perceived a
role for nurses in the clinical research industry, however they
did not perceive that there is a strong administrative and
collegial support for their involvement. Many nurses who
transition into this role attempt to seek training and education
from supervisors and senior management but are declined for
various reasons.

Despite the importance to train and educate new clinical research
coordinators, there is no standard requirement for training and
education within the clinical research industry. As nurses
undergo education, training and licensure to practice clinically,
there is no standard requirement when they transition into the
clinical research arena. Until the industry considers education
and training a priority or it becomes a standard job
prerequisite, coordinators will continue to struggle in their
roles and unfortunately not have the ability to function to their
full capacity.

In conclusion, the clinical research industry offers a unique and
stimulating career transitions for nurses. Nurses considering
this transition should first research the roles of the clinical
research coordinator and seek education and training to fulfill
this new occupation. In addition, other suggestions for support
include: membership and involvement in professional clinical
research organizations, peer focus groups and a mentoring
system.
