A Soda for Your Thoughts?
Everyone knows that sucking down too much soda contributes
to a growing waistline. But did you know that studies also
suggest that it may contribute to your mental decline?

High sugar beverages are well-established risk factors for
developing obesity and type II diabetes. There is also a
link between type II diabetes and risk of Alzheimer's
disease that we don't yet fully understand.

Sugar Not So Sweet for Your Brain

A new study published in the Journal of Biological
Chemistry asked whether high sugar drinks could actually
precipitate Alzheimer's disease. Researchers used a mouse
model that has gene mutations found in certain human cases
of Alzheimer's disease. This leaves the mice highly
susceptible to developing dementia.

Researchers used these mice to see if those given water
spiked with sugar (similar to the amount in soda pop) would
develop Alzheimer's faster than the mice give water alone -
and the answer was yes.

First, the mice drinking the sugar water developed signs of
type II diabetes. They gained more weight, had increased
cholesterol and developed insulin resistance.

Second, the sugar-water drinkers showed increased signs of
dementia, with less ability to learn and remember things;
and more physical brain changes associated with developing
Alzheimer's disease.

It's impossible to say whether the increase in Alzheimer's
dementia in the sugar-water drinking mice was directly due
to the beverage or an overall increase in calories, since
the sugar drinkers also took in about 15% more calories
than the control mice. In any case, the study underscores
the overall relationship between poor nutrient intake and
risk for Alzheimer's.

In fact, studies I have summarized in a previous article
show that high sugar meals increase markers of oxidative
stress as well, which also link to increasing risk of
Alzheimer's.

Yes, it's true that the mice in this study were already
predisposed to Alzheimer's and the sugar drink just made
them get it faster. It would be interesting to know if
normal mice would also show cognitive decline with this
treatment.

How Much Risk are You Comfortable With?

We should still heed the message, especially if you have
Alzheimer's disease in your family and may carry any
predispositions already.

It all comes down to risk. Almost everything you choose to
put in your mouth affects your risk of developing disease,
for better or for worse. Some things reduce your risk,
other things increase it.

The question is, how much risk are you comfortable with? If
someone told me that giving up something I really enjoy
reduces my risk by a few percent, I'd probably say it's not
worth it. On the other hand, if my risk were reduced by 2,
3 or 10 times I'd consider it seriously.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough data to put a number on
many of the lifestyle choices we make. But some things are
just so easy to do that why not do them? Drinking excess
soda pop should fall into that category. The craving for
sweet beverages is a habit and can be reversed and
eliminated in a short time.

The data are clear that high sugar beverages increase risk
for many diseases. If you are a heavy soda drinker making
this one change could make a significant difference for the
future of your brain and your body.

Brain Fitness Case Study: Kris Kringle
How BrainFit is the man in the big red suit? Does old St.
Nick adhere to the four cornerstones of brain fitness to
take good care of his egg's noggin? All in all he seems to
do a fairly good job, but let's take a closer look.

First off is Nutrition. I'd guess that the diet up in the
north pole has to be similar to the Eskimos. Even though
they eat a lot of fat from whale blubber, they get huge
doses of omega-3s from all the fish. I've heard that Santa
enjoys a lot of ice fishing during his downtime. So even
though he goes on a once a year milk and cookies binge (or
bourbon and cookies in some places), he probably does
fairly well the rest of the year.

Second is Physical Activity. Cleaning out reindeer stalls
and chasing elves around to make sure they get their jobs
done must be physically exerting. Plus, just maintaining a
huge workshop operation has to have a fair amount of
physical activity on a day-to-day basis. So I'd have to
give Santa a good score on the physical activity
cornerstone as well.

Third is Mental Activity. This is where Santa really
shines. Remembering all the kids' names and associating all
the different requests with everyone one of them is quite a
feat and indicative of a strong memory. Not only that, but
his sense of direction to remember where they all live
shows incredible spatial abilities. Finally, some of the
toy designs he comes up with these days are very creative.
I have to give him top marks on this cornerstone.

Fourth is Sleep, Rest and Relaxation. Santa probably
doesn't do quite as well here. Even though he only pulls an
all-nighter once a year, he strikes me as a type-A
personality and is on the go all the time. I bet he's up to
the wee hours working hard most of the year. In fact, lack
of sleep has a known correlation with obesity and I'll bet
this contributes to his portly mid-section.

Overall, however, Santa does fairly well in three out of
the four cornerstones so let's see how that translates into
his EPIC performance (Emotional, Physical and Intellectual
Cognition).

Emotionally, he seems to be in good shape. He's always
laughing (HO, HO, HO) and shows a lot of patience with all
those kids constantly climbing on him. I've never heard
anyone call Santa a jerk, so you have to figure that he
does a good job managing his stress levels.

Physically, he could lose a little weight but still seems
to function very well. It must be tough getting up and down
all those chimneys but he gets it done. I don't know how
his blood pressure or immune function are doing but he's
probably OK.

Intellectually, he's a star. As I discussed above, memory,
creativity and problem solving skills are all sharp.
Although he did seem to forget about that Lava Lamp that I
requested for about 10 years in a row, but he finally came
through.

So is Santa doing what is necessary to stay BrainFit? I'd
have to say yes.

Many people dream of having that perfect body like the bodies
they usually see on television, magazine, and more. These are
the ideal physique portrayed by the media and envied by many.
Aside from going to the gym, steam bath can be a great way to
achieve the body that you have always wanted. If your main goal
for going to the gym is to take the excess fat by sweating, why
not bathe in a steam instead? You will perspire ten times faster
without even lifting a single arm or doing any vigorous activity
that will sooner or later cause pain in your body muscles.

Because of the very hectic schedule and busy life that people
are now living in, they usually do not have much time to do
activities for their well-being. They can no longer give some
time for working out, dance class, and other activities that
would promote a healthy lifestyle and an excellent body as well.
However, with steam bath, they only need to spend at least
thirty to forty minutes, two times a week for them to get a
better physique. Moreover, they need not to lift heavy weights
that could only strain their back. All they have to do is sit
down, lie down, recline, or any position they are at their most
comfortable and wait until they perspire. Once they started to
perspire, not only that they are releasing fats from their body.
Toxins will also be taken out from their system as well.

There is more to steam bath than just making you lose weight.
This is also a form of a luxurious relaxation at a cheaper
price. Instead of going for a spa or booking a one week vacation
to Alaska or any cold area in the globe, bathing in steam can be
your inexpensive way to unwind. Moreover, you need not to ask
for permission from your boss since most establishment having
steam baths are only a few blocks away from you work or home.

If you wish to experience steam shower on a daily basis then
why not try installing one in your own home. Just allocate a
certain area in your own home where you can put all the
accessories of steam bathing such as the steam generator, the
steam shower unit, and more. However, make sure that there will
be enough ventilation where you will place your own steam
shower.

Nevertheless, losing weight and keeping your body would not
only rely on having daily or weekly sessions of steam baths. You
must also watch your food intake as well as your vices such as
smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages, if your have one. These
factors would directly affect your physical appearance and the
toning of your body. Steam bath would only support your goal of
achieving the body that you have always wanted. Use steam bath
not only to keep your body healthy and in shape but to be
relaxed at the same time. No other technique can do both at the
same time than a thirty-minute session of a steam bath at least
twice every week.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Astral Projection is the common name for the process by which
your consciousness (or awareness, soul, psyche) can temporarily
leave its physical body and function independently, while your
physical body remains passive. During this experience, we
observe the world (or other worlds) from a non-physical point of
view and with non-physical senses. The 'projector' finds
themselves outside their physical body and released from any
physical constraints.

The name 'Astral' is given to describing anything associated
with these energetically-focussed, rather than matter-focussed,
phenomena. It comes from the root aster, meaning 'relating to a
star' or 'starry'. For example, we perceive astral light in the
Astral Plane via the astral senses of our astral body, etc. So
'Astral Projection' is simply the term used to describe how to
consciously 'arrive' and 'be' in the Astral Plane. Regardless of
the seemingly occult term, it is as entirely natural a process
as breathing is.

For what is not commonly known is that we all experience Astral
Projection when we are asleep. Most of these projections are
called 'unconscious' simply because we aren't trained to
remember them. Others we may later interpret as dreams (but we
should note, not all dreams are projections.) At times we have
complete waking consciousness during the experience, and
remember the event in great detail when we return to our
physical body.

This can happen to anyone, as a total surprise, and entirely
spontaneously (though it is less frequently spoken of.) It can
occur to anyone at any time – while relaxing, while sleeping,
during sickness, under medication, during an accident, during
meditation, etc. At least one in four people remember some kind
of experience like this in their life, so this kind of
spontaneous projection experience is not uncommon.

The main idea behind learning Astral Projection is training the
ability to induce this experience with full consciousness, and
repeat the process whenever desired, maintaining awareness
throughout all stages of the experience: from waking, to
relaxation, to separation from the physical body, to all through
the experience itself, to the return to the physical body and
normal waking state, to remembering it in detail.

We may note that this experience is not a dream of any kind
(though again, it can be arrived at from the dream state.) The
projector is fully aware and awake and can decide, analyze, and
interact freely in this non-physical dimension or Astral Plane,
all while the physical body rests. In this way, you can be in
two places at once, and you are every single night! (...or day
if you are a nightshift worker! :-)

Again, Astral Projection itself is not an uncommon phenomenon
(though conscious projectors aren't that common.) Nor is it
something unique to mystics, occultists, or magicians (though I
dare say those so inclined have often made a point of getting
pretty good at it.) It is a skill attainable, and indeed
practiced, by ordinary human beings from all walks of life. It
cannot be confused with hallucinations (projectors soon learn to
recognize and dismiss self-created hallucinations while
projecting.) Such is the reality of the experience that no other
sensible interpretation for it can be given by the one
experiencing it than that of Astral Projection, i.e. projection
away from the physical body in an astral body.

There are of course many many things one can do from this
state, including (in short) being able to travel to any location
in space and time, interact with other conscious projectors and
other entities, access vast fields of knowledge and learning,
explore strange new worlds and civilizations (much more
interesting than those on Star Trek!) and lots lots more...
we'll get to a longer list soon!

Astral Projection is often called an Out-of-Body Experience (or
OOBE, or even just OBE), and generally these terms can be
considered synonymous. However, for a few reasons, the latter
term is not entirely satisfactory. First, though we are 'out' of
our physical body, we usually find ourselves 'in' our astral
body, which is often (though not always) experienced as an exact
replica of the physical. Second, the term OOBE doesn't allow us
to distinguish between Astral Projection and Etheric Projection,
though admittedly the difference is quite subtle (pun intended.)

Etheric Projection is when you leave your body but are still in
a vibrational state close to the Physical. You could say you are
in the energetic physical world replica. It is similar to as if
you were a 'ghost', nobody can see or touch you, but otherwise
the world seems almost exactly the same. (Because of this, you
can see other spirits on this plane, if you come across them.)

This is the Etheric Plane, and you can think of it as an
overlap (or 'buffer zone') between the Physical and the Astral.
If you had a coin with the Physical on one side and the Astral
on the other, the edge would be the Etheric. It is more like a
higher vibration version of the physical, similar to how
ultraviolet light in invisible to physical eyesight. But the
Etheric and Astral dimensions also blend one into the other,
since all dimensions interpenetrate, and you can 'tune in' and
'tune out' of them by concentrating on doing so.

You won't find this distinction that often, but both the term
OOBE and most OOBE accounts actually describe Etheric Projection
rather than Astral Projection. By this I mean they often
describe 'real-time' events in locations away from the physical
body (often in the projector's bedroom), and are aware of
perceiving the physical world as a spectator who can walk among
physical events but not physically participate.

Thus you can most easily tell an Etheric Projection from
whether it looks totally like the physical or not. You may also
find it a little harder to move in the Etheric, but then again
maybe not. In such a case you could say it is like swimming in
mud compared to the Astral which is more like swimming in water.
But this may actually depend on how much etheric matter, ie.
vital energy, that you have at the time. Other times you may be
too close to your physical body and 'feel' slow or
semi-paralyzed because you are partially sensing its condition.

Other than that, once you've experienced both the Etheric and
the Astral Planes you will be able to tell instantly from the
difference in feeling. The Astral has another feeling to it, one
that more resembles the feeling you have while dreaming.
Certainly the landscape of the Astral is far more fluid and
changeable, and the scenario may bear little resemblance to the
physical world (contextually if not completely.)

The duration of an Etheric Projection may also be shorter as it
is said to depend on the amount of etheric matter channelled to
the Astral Body by the chakras. A person with naturally active
chakra development will have little trouble; otherwise they may
need to be developed by energetic training to achieve the same
results.

But whether Astral or Etheric Projection, they are both
something you can learn to 'do'. Typically, after deep
relaxation and some form of concentration, your consciousness
'shifts' and all of a sudden you can get out of your body. You
may notice that everything is 'not as it's supposed to be'. For
example, doors may be in the seemingly 'wrong place', things may
have different proportions, your house may look different in
some way, animals may talk to you, you can fly... and so much
more...

If you were wondering why anyone would want to learn to
consciously project, (though the sheer novelty would be enough)
my first answer would be the amazing effect of having your mind
'opened' for the first time. There is a definite sense of wonder
and excitement at being able to do and experience things that
were previously impossible! We'll talk more about the reasons to
learn projection soon, but for now imagine: no limits...

================== ARTICLE START ==================
A vehicle used to be something that you could do without.
Nowadays, with the emergence of soccer moms and baseball dads,
you need something reliable that can take you from Point A to
Point B in a jiffy. In this case, using public transportation
just won't cut it, especially if it doesn't extend to where you
need to go.

Looking for a vehicle is like looking for employment. It can
take hours, days or even weeks before you find the right fit for
you. Here are some suggestions to make your experience
stress-free:

1.Do your homework and look for new vehicle prices online. You
can also find incentives and rebates. It's a good idea to bring
in price quotes from another place. This way, you have a heads
up on what price range you're looking for.
You may be able to get a better deal this way.

2.If you have to get a car loan from a dealership, take a copy
of your credit score with you. If your score is good or above,
you have a chance of getting a good interest rate for you loan.
This way, the dealership won't be able to pull the wool over
your eyes.

3.If you can wait, some of the best times to get a good deal on
a vehicle are between July and October. Also, during the
Christmas season is another good time to get a vehicle. During
these times, the dealerships are trying to get rid of their
excess inventory to make room for next year's models. At
Christmas time, not many people are out shopping for a car
because they're too busy getting presents. These are the times
that dealerships are more generous in negotiating a deal.

4.If the salesperson advises you that your financing didn't go
through and you need to add more money to the loan, think twice
before doing that. A lot of times, they just want an excuse to
get your credit score.

5.In a case where the additional features for the vehicle have
to be ordered, you may be asked to fork over $500 - $1000 as a
deposit on the vehicle. If you have to do that, try to stick
with $500 and if you can, pay with a credit card. You're better
covered this way than you would be if you paid by check. The
dealership may try to get more money out of you by telling you
that there was a price increase on the vehicle. With a credit
card, there is room for dispute; if you write a check, you may
have a hard time getting the excess money back.

If you need a new vehicle, don't wait until your other one
doesn't run any longer. You should give yourself ample time to
shop around for one that you like and is economically feasible
for you. It's also a good idea to not purchase a vehicle when
you needed one yesterday. The salesman can see right through
that and will take advantage of the opportunity to suck whatever
they can out of you.

Following these suggestions will give you a clear understanding
and also relieve you of unnecessary frustrations.

Did your neighbor just update his or her home and when you
asked how they could afford it they stated that they did it all
with a home equity loan? If so, you may be wondering exactly
what a home equity loan is. Do not worry, many people are like
you, they have heard the term and they think they have a general
understanding but they just are not quite sure. A home equity
loan is essentially a loan where the borrower uses the equity in
their home as collateral.

More About Home Equity Loans

Home equity loans are not for everyone, but if you need cash
for major home repairs, to update your home, to pay medical
bills, or even pay for a college education this is a great
option. A home equity loan will effectively create a lien again
the home, which means that you cannot sell the home without
paying off the loan first. When you have this type of loan
again your home you are reducing the actual equity in the home
because you have borrowed against it.

Home equity loans are often referred to as HEL and they are
quite common today. Many homeowners use them to pay unexpected
bills or simply to make their home a more comfortable one to
live in. If you have a home and you have a decent credit
history chances are that you will receive a lot of offers to
take one of these loans out. While this type of loan should
never be used for play money it is a great option to have when
you do need funds on short notice.

To be approved for a home equity loan you will need to have a
good to outstanding credit history. You will also be required
by most lenders to home a reasonable income to debt ratio, which
means that you can afford to pay your bills based on the amount
of money that you make and the amount of debt that you are
already paying on. When you do apply for a home equity loan you
will find that there are two different varieties, which are
closed end and open-end home equity loans.

Both the open ended and closed end home equity loans are often
referred to as second mortgages. The reason that they are
called second mortgages is because the loans are secured with
the property just like your typical mortgage is. While they are
called second mortgages home equity loans do not usually have as
long a term as the traditional mortgage, though there are
exception.

The nice thing about these loans is that you may be able to
deduct the interest on the income tax, offsetting what you are
spending on interest. Home equity loans really do come in
useful in a lot of situations, though they need to be carefully
considered because they are not without risk since they are
secured against your home and if you do not pay than action can
be taken against your home.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
A Romantic Wedding Destination could be The Four Seasons Tented
Camp in the Golden Triangle on the borders of Thailand. It is
perfectly legal to get married in Thailand, so it should be
perfectly possible to do the deed at the Four Seasons Tented
Camp, which after all is an hotel anyway.

Even if the Romantic wedding destination were to be in a hotel
in Bangkok, then the Golden Triangle would make such a fabulous
romantic destination for a honeymoon.

Just getting to the Four Seasons Tented Camp in the Golden
Triangle is a journey of which dreams are made of.

Even if it isn't to be a romantic wedding destination you will
be treated like royalty from the moment you arrive at Chiang Rai
Airport, and escorted to your Land Rover for the one hour
fifteen minute journey on dirt roads through jungle, bags
carried refreshments and cold towels as well.

Arrival at a hut on the other side of the river from the Four
Seasons Tented Camp, your luggage will vanish and reappear in
your tent, life jackets will be donned, and you will board a
traditional Thai Boat. You will see the Elephant Camp, where you
will spend time with the elephants, and the Burma Bar where you
will spend time with the cocktails watching the sunset over
Burma!! You will be staggered that one end to the other the Four
Seasons Tented Camp is half a mile.

This whole journey and arrival is about as exotic as it can
get. A journey by riverboat through exotic bamboo jungles to a
corner of the world known as the Golden Triangle on the border
of Thailand where it meets two other countries, you will reach
the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle. An arrival where
you bang a gong three times before ascending the stairs.

Here you will find a luxurious camp of fifteen well spaced
tents high up on the banks of the Ruak River, but these aren't
tents like boy scout tents. Firstly they are suspended over the
jungle like a treehouse on stilts.

These are splendid affairs with everything a lovely shade of
cream, and not the green of canvas.

Huge soft beds, either Kingsize or two Queensize with feather
pillows, how luxurious and a perfect romantic travel
destination!!

The bath is hammered copper, and is big enough to fit two, but
typically if you are in the Silver tent which is at the edge of
the property then your bath will be silver!! In addition there
is an outdoor shower, with amazing views, and a verandah which
is almost as big as your room.

If your final romantic destination is to be the Silver tent,
then you are in for a hike, which is up hill and down dale
including steps, and crossing a suspended bridge. Incidentally
each time you cross it, you will hear the Indiana Jones music
playing, how over the top is that!!

When you want to go anywhere you will be accompanied with or
without lanterns but always a guide if you want although you
will be equipped with flashlights. The attention to detail from
the staff is quite outstanding, they are always there when
needed, but totally unobtrusive when not

The meals, and this is an all inclusive hotel, and this means
drinks as well, are a Thai/Burmese/Laotian variety, and you will
find there is something for everyone, and the quality is quite
magnificent.

Whatever you do at this romantic travel destination you must
take the tour, firstly escorted to the Golden Triangle by boat
and sit on the Mekong River in Thailand, Burma and Laos all at
the same time.

Don't miss the elephants either, for you will spend a day
Elephant Mahout Training and the Jungle Trek after you have
learned what to do.

This day is unforgettable as will be your stay at The Four
Seasons Tented Camp at the Golden Triangle. No children, no
Televisions, an ideal romantic wedding destination or a very
romantic destination. It's expensive but amazing, and in this
life you tend to get what you are prepared to pay for.

Ask Not What the HealthCare System Can Do for You . . .
With the presidential debates gearing up again we are sure
to hear more about health care. But we propose a slightly
different question. In addition to asking how we can get
more people healthcare coverage, we should also ask why so
many people are sick in the first place.

The words of John Kennedy might today be, "Ask not what the
health care system can do for you. Ask what you can do to
reduce the health care burden". But before delving into
what we can do, let's take a look at some realities that
our next president could face in their first 'State of the
Union' address.

On the downside -

* We are not healthy: 60% of adults and 20% of kids are
overweight; 30% of today's kids are anticipated to become
diabetic; 20% of high school kids have early stages of
heart disease. The estimated economic burden of depression
for the year 2000 (most recent estimate) was $83.1 billion,
and this is just one of many brain-related diseases

* We are aging: within the next couple of decades, about
20% of the population will be of retirement age; 4.5
million people already have Alzheimer's disease and by 2050
there will be 16 million cases.

* We are heavily medicated: anti-depressants are the
leading selling drugs in the United States; record numbers
of children are on these and anti-psychotics; for adults,
cholesterol and blood pressure medicines are becoming as
common as breakfast cereal.

On the upside -

* The US government estimates that healthier lifestyles
could save $71 billion per year in health care costs and
another $14 billion in lost productivity.

* 1 out of 7 deaths are premature and could be avoided with
better diets and active lifestyles.

Perhaps the next president should spend a little effort
promoting methods to improve these statistics. But how?

We typically think of heart disease, diabetes, depression,
and Alzheimer's dementia as very different problems. But
the more we learn about disease, the more we realize that
these seemingly different diseases often have a lot in
common at the cellular and molecular level. They also have
a lot in common when it comes to how they gained a foothold
in your brain and body to get started in the first place.

However, we have an arsenal of tools proven to help reduce
common cellular damage to maintain fit brains and bodies.
What are those tools? Some high tech drugs and medical
equipment that is out of reach for much of the population
lacking health care insurance? Actually, no. These tools
are very low tech and available to everyone. They are:

1. Eating a quality diet

2. Getting regular physical activity

3. Keeping your mind active and engaged

4. Getting enough sleep and rest

Sounds easy, right? So why don't we all do it, and why
didn't we have all of these problems 50 and 100 years ago?

First of all, in yesteryear a breakfast muffin contained
about 150 calories. Today that muffin is 400 calories. A
large drink at the soda fountain totaled 12 ounces. Today,
that drink is the smallest size on most menus. Yes, we are
suffering from proportion distortion. We love to eat, and
it ain't peas and carrots we are a cravin'.

Second, for many people going to work actually meant going
to work, physically. Today, the extent of our office
exercise is finger aerobics on our QWERTY keyboards.
Physical activity used to be a regular part of everyday
life, not a chore that you have to schedule into your day.

Third, as Alvaro pointed out on a recent Sharp Brains blog,
many of us 'outsource our brains' and no longer think for
ourselves. With mass media messages, GPS systems,
calculators, spell checkers and electronic organizers, we
must ask the question how well we could function without
them. I know I am guilty of this one, myself.

Finally, we are staying up later and getting up earlier to
meet those deadlines. On average, we get 1.5 hours less
zzzzzs than we did about 100 years ago. Not only that but
we spend far more time busy, busy, busy when we are awake
than we ever used to.

Now, change happens. We shouldn't expect to always do
things the way we used to, and we're not suggesting that.
Food, in all its irresistible varieties, is much more
available. Are we supposed to just not eat it. Well, uh, it
wouldn't hurt to pass on the second helping of triple
chocolate cheesecake now and then.

And no, we can't jog around our office but we can do simple
things to introduce more activity into our day. Walk
instead of drive those 1-mile errands. Park further from
the door, take the stairs . . . you've heard all this
before. So why don't we do it?

One reason is that no one likes to be told what to do and
subjected to some guilt trip, most people just don't
respond to that. Also, most people haven't really thought
about what they really want their health to look like or
developed a reasonable plan to reach their health-goals. As
the old adage says, "If you don't know where you are going,
you are sure to get there", plus it helps to have a map.
Finally, even with a plan many folks will give up after the
first sign of failure or fatigue. These changes don't
become easy until we make them an integral part of our
lives.

So how do you motivate people to take action to maintain
their health? Since everyone is different, many options
exist. The obvious answer, that will motivate the most
people, is money, money, money . . . money (did you hear
'The Apprentice' theme song).

At a policy level, it would be exceptionally helpful if the
next president worked to create incentives for healthy
lifestyles and behaviors. Now, I know this is easy to say,
probably not as easy to do (and keep everyone happy), but
you have to walk before you run.

What if the next presidential administration actually
incentivized (is that a word yet?) us to take better care
of ourselves? What if health insurance companies gave
discounts to people that tried to live a healthy lifestyle?
What if the government gave us tax breaks to eat healthier
food and exercise? What if each individual had one
government subsidized continuing education, or
self-enrichment class each year? Would this reduce the
overall health care burden for employers and make it more
affordable to cover more people? Help reduce sick days and
increase productivity and creativity? Hmmm....

We realize there are many caveats to implementing such a
plan but something has to be done and maybe some bright
politician can figure out how to do it. Who would lose if
the country were to improve their health?

Insurance companies wouldn't have to fork out as much.
Medical providers would be able to divert more of their
attention to preventing disease, instead of managing
chronic illness. The government wouldn't be in such a hot
seat for the health care crisis. Big Pharma might sell
fewer drugs, but there are several new health-related
industries that they have the expertise to tap into.
Basically, we would all win.

So back to our initial question: "Why are we so sick in the
first place?" If you step back and see the forest for the
trees, our world has changed drastically in the last 50 to
100 years. With technology, and the availability it brings,
we may have become a little complacent, a little too
trusting that the magic cure-all pill is there for us.

It is true that we are living longer. But I'm sure with
increased longevity, everyone would want at least a
reasonable quality of life and currently that isn't the
status quo. So the answer to our question seems to
be....lifestyle choices. Making the best lifestyle choices,
and maintaining them, isn't always easy but the best things
in life rarely are.

So Madam or Mister President, will you help us help
ourselves?

Use More of Your Brain to Get Things Done
Recent advancements in brain imaging show us that older
people use more of their brain to perform tasks than
younger people do. Scientists interpret this to mean one of
two opposite things:

First, older people recruit more brain activity to do the
same things in order to compensate for degeneration of
specific brain circuits that can no longer get the job done
by themselves. This is the compensation hypothesis. Think
of it like one brain region asking for help from another
brain region in order to do something that, in its younger
days, it could do on its own.

Second, the older brain may become 'over-activated' when
trying to perform a task because it doesn't do as good of a
job at assigning the task to a specific region. This is the
de-differentiation hypothesis. Think of this explanation as
different brain regions being unsure whose job it is to do
something and then getting in each other's way.

Do older brains cooperate or compete?

A Belgium group used an elegant approach, published in The
Journal of Neuroscience, to try to figure out which one was
correct. The first hypothesis predicts that increased brain
activation is a sign of participation, so should improve
performance. The second hypothesis predicts increased
activation is due to competition, so should decrease
performance.

Researchers asked younger (20-25 year old) and older (62-72
year old) participants to perform a simple motor task while
the investigators watched their brain activity.
Participants simply moved their hands and feet in the same
direction (easy task) or in opposite directions (harder
task) while undergoing a brain scan to determine which
brain regions became active. In the end, the older folks
that performed better had more active brain regions,
supporting the first hypothesis. The increased activity in
older brains, while performing a task, appears due to
participation between different regions.

Tying it back to lifestyle

This study is important because it supports the notion of
cognitive reserve and EPIC performance that we have
discussed in previous articles. To give a brief re-cap, the
more you learn and experience in life, the more connections
you make in your brain, and the more easily it will be to
recruit other brain regions to get things done.

When you give yourself different experiences, you force
your brain to look at new situations from different
perspectives. This may help 'link-up' brain regions and
make it easier for them to communicate with each other as
you age, at a time when they become more dependent upon
each other.

If you create enough different brain connections throughout
your life by committing to life-long learning, you may
protect yourself from losing mental performance as you age.
Even though your brain will inevitably age, you ensure that
the different regions cooperate with each other when
necessary and keep your mental capabilities sharp.

The best way to do this is to adhere to the four
cornerstones of brain fitness that we have discussed in the
past.

1. Feed your brain healthy foods, as they are the raw
materials for building brain circuits.

2. Exercise your body since it improves the blood supply to
your brain.

3. Exercise your brain by continually learning new things
and challenging your mind.

4. Get plenty of rest and sleep to allow your brain to
rebuild and regenerate.

Boosting the odds to maintain life-long brain fitness is
simple. You don't have to understand all the science that
supports these lifestyle choices, but it's nice to know
that it's there.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Spending time with loved ones and family is an incredible
experience. Children love to spend time with their families and
bask in the love and joy that comes with it, so it's not
surprising that quality family time ranks up there as one of the
most important values in the lives of average people. A lot of
people unfortunately cannot find time to spend with their
families, making quality family time a luxury instead of a
normal occurrence. With a little bit of planning and some
creativity, however, any family can have some quality family
time and can enjoy the company of loved ones.

Family Night!

One of the best ways to go about getting more time with the
family is to create family night. Family night can be any
evening of the week and can be written down on the family
calendar to ensure that it takes place, week after week. Family
night does not need to be complicated. Simply set aside some
time, come up with an activity or an idea, and spend time with
the family! Great ideas for family night include:

• Pizza, Chinese food, or Mexican night
• Western movie night
• Board game night
• Backyard camping night (only for the truly adventurous, of
course!)

Get to Know Your Child's Friends

Getting quality family time involves the inclusion of other
people sometimes. Getting to know your child's friends can be a
great way to open up some common ground and find new activities.
Letting your child and his or her friends spend time at your
home, with your supervision, is a great way to get in tune with
your child and learn more about his or her likes and dislikes.

Planning regular time to have your child and his or her friends
over is a great way to build new relationships with your child
and teach responsibility. By simply playing with your child and
his or her friends, you can help instil values like sharing,
taking turns, and friendliness. In fact, many people believe
that scheduling unstructured playtime for kids and their friends
is far more beneficial than structured play.

Let the Family Choose

Letting your children choose the activity they want to do is a
great way to get in touch with your kids' interests and learn
more about them. Parents often feel that the scheduling and
planning of activities is up to them, leading to the enrolling
of kids in activities that there is little to no interest in.
Instead of enrolling your 7-year-old boy in ballet classes, let
him choose from a broad range of activities and form his own
ideas.

Involve Yourself

One of the most important things you can do as a parent is to
involve yourself in your children's activities. This includes
playing with your daughter and her dollhouse and playing with

================== ARTICLE START ==================
When it comes to finding good value car insurance a broker can
do this much easier than the individual can. A broker has the
means to search within the bulk of the motor insurance market
place on your behalf and gather together the cheapest quotes
possible. Insurance will vary depending on your particular
circumstances and among the different providers, so getting as
many quotes as possible will lead to making the best savings.

The type of car insurance you need will reflect the cost of a
policy. Fully comprehensive is the dearest option for insuring
your car. If you buy a brand new car then you will have no other
option other to take this in order top protect your investment
fully.

Third party fire and theft cover is usually taken by the
younger driver as it costs less than fully comprehensive. It is
also suitable where you have an older car that is not worth a
lot.

There is also third party only to consider which is the most
basic form of car insurance.

Once a broker has found you a selection of car insurance quotes
then it is down to the individual to make sure they compare the
terms of the cover. This is where you can find such as what is
included in the policy and is not. The contents of what the
motor insurance cover offers can vary considerably. For example,
you can find that some form of breakdown cover can be included
for the same cost as a policy that does not, so checking the
terms is beneficial in the long run.

Look out for additional benefits such as a free courtesy car if
yours is involved in an a accident and a legal assistance
helpline. These are all useful to have.

To help reduce the cost of car insurance you can add security
features to your car such as alarms, immobilizers, steering
locks or tracking devices. By doing so your car will be seen as
being harder to steal by the insurer and so reduces the risk of
theft. The same goes when it comes to where you choose to park
your car; parking it in a garage is safer than leaving it on the
side of the street.

There are motor insurance providers who will offer cheaper
cover to women drivers and discounted car insurance for younger
or non-experienced drivers and your broker will know where to go
to get you the best quote for your needs.

Younger drivers who have not got experience on the road and
have not built up any no claims bonus could take extended or
advanced driving lessons and this can go a long way to lessening
the premiums they are charged. Sticking with a non-sporty sedate
car will also mean that they pay less in premiums.

A broker can without a doubt find you car insurance online
cheaper than anywhere. However while this is the easiest and
cheapest way to take out cover, it is essential that you fully
understand what the insurance covers, so there are no nasty
surprises should you ever need to claim.

Article Title: Tips To Consider When Operating A Strapping
Machine For The First Time
Author: Amy Nutt

================== ARTICLE START ==================
The use of a strapping machine is very important because it is
what holds boxes, bundles, and very packages together. These
machines are loaded with what is called strapping and the
machine dispenses the strapping to hold the boxes, bundles, etc.
together. The main reason why this is done is for shipping
reasons. Shipping a product in bulk can be done considerably
easier if the products are strapped together. This allows for
the boxes or bundles to be transported without falling over and
allows for the transport of more of the product at the same
time. This cuts down on time and manpower.

However, everyone who operates a strapping machine has to
experience their first time with it. The first time can be
rather daunting because of the fear of doing something wrong.
That is why there are very important things to consider when
operating these machines for the first time. These tips are:

• Safety first. You must listen to all safety instructions
given by the supervisor prior to operating the machine. These
safety instructions are very important in that the successful
operation of the machine relies on them.

• Be aware of the type of machine being used. Is it manual,
automatic, or semi-automatic?

• If the machine is a hands-free machine, remember that jobs
are done chronologically and that there is a cycle time as to
not tamper with the machine if there is a delay in the cycle.

• Some strapping machines simply require programming for the
type of material being strapped. Be sure to program the machine
correctly and to ask the supervisor if unsure. An incorrect
strapping can be dangerous for those transporting the materials.

• Do not ignore the items being strapped. Even though the
machine may be reliable in strapping items correctly, it is
always a great idea to check the strapping by giving it a firm
tug before it is transported. The last thing you want to happen
is a strap break during transport and someone be injured from
the ordeal. Although machines seem to be trustworthy, it never
hurts to double check. That way, if the strap is weak or broken,
the strapping for that particular bundle can be redone.

• Again, any questions that need answers should be directed
toward your supervisor. A common mistake of new strapping
machine operators is that they are afraid to ask in fear that
they will be viewed as incompetent. In reality, if questions are
not asked and the strapping machine operator takes a guess, the
operator could be viewed as incompetent if the job is not done
correctly. Asking questions shows an eagerness to learn and not
stupidity.

So keep these simple tips in mind. It is more or less common
sense and the desire to listen when operating a strapping
machine correctly. It more or less depends on the type of
machine and the type of goods being strapped that will determine
how the machines are operated, but no matter what, questions are
key. Before long, you will be the one answering questions for
new operators because you received the right answers toward
operating your machine correctly and efficiently.

You are a creative person, and you are always looking for
outlets for that creativity. You have done all of the
traditional art hobbies that you can think of, and now you would
like your body to look like art. No, you're not getting tattoos;
you're thinking about getting body jewelry.

About Body Jewelry

When people think about body jewelry, chances are they aren't
exactly sure what that means. While body jewelry can include
things like those stick-on fake jewels that some people like to
wear, body jewelry is specifically in reference to the kind of
jewelry that people put in their body piercings.

For example, you have a nose piercing, and you are thinking
about what kind of body jewelry you would like to put in it.
While you could just choose a plain metal stud, you could also
be a bit for fancy and choose a stud that has a gemstone in it.
You could also choose a nose ring.

If you have an eyebrow piercing, you could also choose some
kind of a stud. However, some people like to get a bit more
decorative and choose body jewelry that has a symbol on it. The
symbols that people choose are dependent on their own jewelry
preferences.

Many people now have navel piercings, and the choice of body
jewelry for this kind of piercing is often a stud that looks
like a crystal. If you are thinking about getting a navel
piercing, be aware that you are going to have to avoid swimming
in the ocean or in a pool for several weeks after the piercing
is done.

Also, be careful in regard to the kind of body jewelry you
choose. Some people have an allergic reaction to certain kinds
of metals, which can lead to an infection, so be sure that you
don't become one of those people by immediately taking out the
body jewelry if you see it causing a rash.

This kind of jewelry can be many in different price ranges, but
be aware that the more expensive kinds are also the safest kinds
for a piercing. You can buy this kind of jewelry at a variety of
different stores and online.

However, if you do buy this kind of jewelry online, try not to
buy it secondhand, for health reasons. With the right body
jewelry, you can certainly make a statement in a creative way.

Finding loans for people with bad credit was almost impossible
a few years ago, but not so today. More and more people have got
poor credit ratings as a result of the changing financial
climate in this country, especially concerning the increasing
cost of living. That as dramatically risen over the past few
years and a high percentage of individuals have found it
difficult to keep up with repayments on their existing debts.
However, as a result of the demand existing in the marketplace,
there are a number of loans for people with bad credit out there
today.

Some of the loans for people with bad credit may be unsecured
loans but an increasing number are now secured with individuals
offering their homes as collateral. In some cases, lenders will
accept a home as equity regardless of the credit rating that the
homeowner in question is burdened with. This is because they are
guaranteed to receive the money that they have invested back in
some form or another. However, this may not be good news for a
homeowner if he or she stands to lose his or her home so it is
imperative that the homeowner in question fully assesses his or
her financial situation before making that commitment.

Finding loans for people with bad credit has never been easier
in terms of accessibility as well. There are internet search and
compare websites that allows an individual to input his or her
loan wants and needs before the site itself searches for the
best deals. The loans for people with bad credit that are
returned are tailored to suit the individual and this would save
time, confusion and valuable pennies in terms of lower interest
charges.

You can also try a specialist secured loan broker – they can
scour the marketplace for the right deal and match it to your
circumstances.

Why do the work yourself to find loans for people with bad
credit when you do not have to?

This is Your Brain on Stress
Remember the Bugs Bunny cartoons where Yosemite Sam would
get so angry and stressed out that steam would come out of
his ears. In fact, this seemed to happen to a lot of
cartoon characters that lost there cool. Were these guys
actually frying there brains? If so, could they get those
fried brain cells back after they calmed down? It seems
that cartoonists may have correctly predicted some
neurobiology of stress.

Stress biology has been a hot topic in neuroscience for
many years and research emerges all the time to further our
understanding of why stress is so bad for the brain. A new
study reveals an important finding that sheds more light on
maintaining brain fitness during these bouts of stress. But
before getting into the new data, let's back up a little.

Robert Sapolsky, a neuroscientist at Stanford, has been a
prevailing voice in stress biology for some time. He
proposed theories over a decade ago that suggested stress
was actually killing brain cells in a part of the brain
called the hippocampus, a structure crucial for learning
and memory.

In fact, the last ten years or so have revealed some
interesting things about the hippocampus, especially as it
relates to stress. Contrary to years of dogma, we
discovered that the hippocampus is an area of the brain
that is continually giving birth to new neurons. For many
years, we believed that the brain was incapable of making
new neurons after development, but we now know that's not
true. New neurons are being born (and dying) in the
hippocampus all the time.

The trick is to keep the rate of neuron birth in check with
that of neuron death. If you lose more neurons than you
gain, your hippocampus can shrink and whither; and your
ability to learn and remember declines.

Sapolsky's early work showed that stress was a bad thing
for this process. Stress slowed the rate of new neuron
birth, to tip the scales in favor of neuron death. Not only
does this hamper your cognitive abilities, but it may leave
you more susceptible to prolonged stress and create a
viscous cycle.

Later work by a Yale researcher, Ron Duman, showed that
anti-depressants often require new neuron birth in the
hippocampus to have their affect. One a side-note, exercise
is one of the most potent ways to stimulate new neuron
birth in the hippocampus. This is probably why exercise is
such a great anti-depressant.

New research from Duman's group has now pinpointed on of
the big players in how stress works to stop neuron birth in
the hippocampus. They discovered a molecule called IL-1beta
(Interleukin-1 beta) is responsible for putting the breaks
on hippocampal neuron birth. We already knew that IL-1beta
is a hormone involved in inflammation, increased by stress.
We also knew that IL-1beta, itself, could increase some
effects of stress.

What the new finding tells us is that if we focus on
reducing IL-1beta during unhealthily long periods of
stress, we may counter some of the cognitive problems that
too much stress creates. I'm sure this discovery has peaked
the interest of many pharmaceutical companies with
anti-IL-1beta drugs, but there is already a simple way to
reduce this hormone.

Previous studies showed that omega-3s can reduce many
hormones involved in inflammation and that they can
specifically counteract increases in stress, caused by
IL-1beta. Putting this older research in light of the new
study, suggests that omega-3s might actually be able to
protect the hippocampus during stress.

So again, discoveries in molecular biology take us back to
benefits of brain fitness cornerstones that we have been
promoting for some time; in this case, exercise and quality
nutrition. Exercise can increase the birth of new neurons
in your hippocampus and omega-3s may protect them from
stress-induced IL-1beta.

An Apple a Day Keeps the Brain Doctor Away
Age-old wisdom tells us that we should eat fruit to stay
healthy. Once again, science catches up to the old adage. A
new study suggests that compounds in fruit, especially
apples, may promote brain fitness as you age.

Specifically, researchers found that phenolics, extracted
from apples, bananas and oranges protected neuron-like
cells from dying in a dish. But before we get into the new
results let's cover a little background on what the fruits
may be doing to protect your brain.

Too much oxidative stress can lead to Alzheimer's disease

One of the things that can damage bodily tissues and cause
disease is oxidative stress. This is essentially a process
that usually happens during the manufacturing of energy.
Just like a nuclear reactor makes energy very efficiently,
but at the same time produces toxic by-products, so do our
tissues.

Usually these toxic by-products are well controlled, but
occasionally they escape into our cells and tissues and do
a little damage. If left unchecked, this damage can
accumulate and eventually lead to disease.

Since the brain gets dibs on about 20% of the calories that
you eat, it has a lot of energy production going on and is
at risk of oxidative stress. In fact, many studies indicate
that Alzheimer's disease brains are highly susceptible to
oxidative stress and that this may be one causative factor
in developing the disease in the first place.

Fruit can protect you from oxidative stress

That's the bad news, now here's the good news. Antioxidants
found in fruits and vegetables can help prevent oxidative
stress by neutralizing the toxic by-products of the energy
production process. That's why it's so critical to get your
recommended five to nine servings a day. This gives your
brain and body what it needs to fight oxidative stress.

In new research, scientists from Korea and Cornell,
extracted specific nutrients, called phenols, from apples,
bananas and oranges and used them to save neuron-like cells
grown in a dish. They treated the cells with hydrogen
peroxide, which will cause oxidative stress and tested if
the fruit extracts could save the cells from damage and
death.

Apples help neurons and blood vessels

First, researchers looked at damage to the protective
membrane that surrounds the cells to see if the fruit
extract could prevent them from springing leaks caused by
the toxic peroxide. Second, researchers measured the actual
peroxide-induced death of the cells and the ability of the
fruit phenols to save them.

It turned out that all the tested fruit extracts were
effective at protecting membrane damage and cell death, but
apple extract was the most potent.

In a related experiment researchers from the University of
California at Davis, also tested the ability of apple
extract to prevent cells from dying. But in this experiment
they used endothelial cells, which are the cells that make
up the walls of blood vessels.

Again, since the brain utilizes a big share of the bodies
oxygen supply, blood delivery through a healthy circulatory
system is a huge factor. And, the health of the endothelial
cells that make up the vascular system is extremely
important for overall brain health and fitness.

In this experiment, the apple extract met the challenge
again. Researchers treated endothelial cells in a dish with
a toxin known to kill them, and were able to prevent the
cell death with the apple extract.

So there you have it. We should remember all that stuff our
grandmother told us and take heed. An apple a day really
may keep the doctor away and help maintain good brain
function as we age.

Article Title: Residential Property Developers Advice Can Be
Found Online With A Specialist

================== ARTICLE START ==================
When it comes to renovating an existing property or building a
property then you need good, solid residential property
developers advice from specialist. The easiest way to get this
is by going online. There are specialist websites that will give
information freely and help you to get the best deal when you
are ready to take out financing.

Residential property developers just starting out can get
confused when it comes to choosing the type of loan the need. A
refurbishment loan is often mistaken for development finance
when in fact they are not the same. With this in mind you will
have to decide which type of finance you need for your
particular circumstances. Basically a refurbishment loan is
needed when there are small changes that need to be made whereas
a development loan needs to be taken when the property needs
extensive changes making or have a large scale project to work
on.

Good advice is that if you need finance for anything above
£150,000 then you should consider a property developers loan. If
the figure you need to make changes falls well below this then
get information relating to a refurbishment loan.

When it comes to the amount you are able to borrow for your
venture it will be based on the individual. The lender will want
to see your proposed plans for the renovations. Sometimes
lenders will allow the loan to be figured on the value of the
property after the changes have been made. The advantage of this
is of course that you will be able to borrow more as the
property would be worth more than in its current state. A
specialist will be able to work with you when it comes to your
proposal and this is often preferred by the majority of lenders.

Residential property developers can expect to pay a rate of
interest which is based on their particular circumstances. There
are many factors which are taken into account including the
experience one has, how much value is in the property you are
developing, what the proposition is and what you intend to do
with the property in question. With the majority of lenders the
interest rate falls somewhere between 1.5% and 2.5% above the
base rate which is set out by the Bank of England.

The actual amount that you are able to borrow will be based on
the proposal and your individual circumstances. However
residential property developers will find that it is hard to get
100% funding for the project unless you have a great deal of
experience and an established track record. You would also be
wise not to try and seek a loan if you do not yet have full
planning consent. Lenders usually turn down proposals that do
not come with the relevant paperwork and documentation.
Realistically you can expect to be able to borrow around 70% to
75% of the purchase price and building costs. A specialist will
always be able to use their connections when it comes to getting
the cheapest rate and best deal possible.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
If you search online for a lose weight diet then you will find
that there are plenty to be found but how do you know which
actually work and which can do more harm than good. There is one
simple rule when it comes to losing weight and keeping the
weight off and that is to do it slowly.

If you were to suddenly cut down your intake of food
drastically then you would do more harm than good. For one your
body would think you were suffering through a famine, so when
you do eat it will store fat and this is not what you want. The
ideal way to start a diet is slowly and the same applies to
starting exercise. Exercise is good for you but not if you
suddenly put on running shoes and try to do a ten mile run. An
exercise and diet plan needs to be started at a slow pace.

You should also be aware of any lose weight diet that severely
restricts what you can and cannot eat. Different foods are
essential in any diet when it comes to losing weight while
remaining fit and healthy at the same time. Leaving out certain
types of food as some diets dictate could mean that you lose out
on essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals, which would be
detrimental to your wellbeing.

The best lose weight diet would be one that follows the simple
solution of reducing the amount of calories that you eat in a
day while increasing exercise slowly. By doing this you will
encourage your body to use the stores of fat it keeps and by
doing so shed some weight. Individuals start and stop diets
regularly, they lose a little weight get bored with the diet and
then end up gaining more weight than they lost and so diet
again. This type of dieting is called yo-yo dieting and again
causes more harm than good. When attempting to lose weight and
keep it off then you should think about a change of lifestyle. A
good diet will ask that you lose no more than 1 or 2 pounds per
week and so if you have a lot of weight to lose then it can take
months or longer.

If you base your diet on losing 1 to 2 pounds per week then you
need to cut 300 to 500 calories out of your diet per day. While
1 or 2 pounds does not sound like a lot, over a 12 month period
you would lose 3 stone. When starting on a lose weight diet
there are some steps you can take to get into it gradually.
Replace fizzy drinks with plain water or fruit juice and use low
fat margarine or none at all on sandwiches. If you drink tea of
coffee then have one less sugar or use sweetener and drinking a
glass of water before your main meal can make you feel fuller
and stop you overeating. All these tips are excellent ways of
getting started without actually having to make harsh changes.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Sales and marketing have really evolved through the years,
perhaps as more economic crunches and recessions continue to
plague every nation.

Selling commodities has always been a tough task. That is why
innovative and skillful managers have been striving to overhaul
the traditional sales process so figures and profits could
continue to buoy up, despite prevailing economic situations.

In the 1980s, the marketing industry was shocked to find
several players handed to their members the tedious task of
distributing products. Commission payments were handed as baits
to the dollar-hungry sales team.

From that, the notion of the multi-level business transactions
came up. As managers and sales people strived to keep sales
figures up, they had adopted different strategies to keep up.
Apparently, the multi-level business scheme was the most
significant.

From then on, multi-level types of business transactions have
been sprouting left and right, surprisingly, not just in the US,
but also in other countries, even the third-world nations.

Multi-level businesses

Multi-level business transactions are actual combination of
franchising and direct marketing. Direct marketing in the sense
that the company would directly distribute products to members.

The members would then open franchises for redistribution. In
the event, other sales people are recruited to sell the
products. Thus the setup goes like this: the company directly
sells the products to sales team. The sales team then recruits
people and sell the products to them.

The recruits would then recruit more people who would agree to
sell the products. The recruitment process goes on, and down the
line, the products' prices bloat, making the product extra
expensive.

In the end, economists would profoundly assert that people on
the bottom of the somehow pyramid scheme would gain very little
benefits compared to the earnings generated by the company.

Persuasion

The name of the game on multi-level business transactions is
persuasion. Certainly, people would not be recruited to join the
sales network if the sales personnel who recruited them were
never convincing enough to lure them.

The promises of financial gains and commissions surely would
lure people to get into even the strangest of business
transactions.

Doing a multi-level business is never an easy task. But
companies succeed in doing so. These companies do not
practically care about how businesses go down the line of the
network, as long as the top reaps most of the benefits.

Legitimacy

In the United States alone, multi-level businesses are legal
operations. As such, companies and sales managers doing so have
all the legal vests to recruit and convince people to get into
the network.

However, there are several scrupulous scammers who take
advantage of the situation. The setback would be that people
could hardly recognize between the legal and the illegal pyramid
networking schemes.

Current legislation would certainly not do anything against
multi-level businesses because technically, they are legal
businesses, which generate revenues the legal way.

Despite a rising number of complaints against multi-level
businesses, more and more companies start up and adopt the
scheme.

Many people have fallen as victims to the anomalous
transactions. But still, there are people who continue to
participate. As long as there are people who testify to have
reaped profits, there would be people who would aim to parallel
these greats fortunes.

Thus, there is truth to the saying 'Money matters'.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Having a yeast infection is uncomfortable and annoying. What
some people do not know is that yeast is always present in your
body. The overabundance of yeast or candida albicans is a
problem. Microorganisms called pathogenic yeasts cause
infection. They thrive on mucus membranes and can multiple
quickly if good bacteria such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli
are lowered. Yeast infections develop in the mouth, throat,
tongue and female genitalia can cause irritation, redness and a
burning sensation. People all of all ages can be infected with
yeast rashes and especially individuals with weak immune
systems.

Yeast Infection in Pregnancy

Pregnant women are more likely to have yeast infections
especially in the vagina and surrounding area. This is because
Estrogen levels are high during pregnancy which causes moisture
in the vagina which can breed yeast. Another factor in the
increased rate of yeast infections in pregnancy is due to
increased sugar in a women's body. Yeast thrives on sugar and
will multiple quickly when sugar is present.

When treating yeast infection in pregnancy, you need to make
sure that the itching, burning and redness that you are
experiencing is definitely a yeast infection. These symptoms are
also common in bacterial infection and Sexually Transmitted
Diseases. It is important for the health of yourself and your
baby that you consult a physician to make sure exactly what is
causing your symptoms so you can be treated appropriately.

If you have a yeast infection, you will not be able to take the
usual oral medication for yeast rashes, Diflucan. Diflucan is
known to cause congenital disorders in babies whose mothers took
it during pregnancy. Instead, your doctor will prescribe you a
topical cream or ointment for the treatment of the infection.

Yeast Diaper Rash

Infants and babies are also susceptible to yeast infections
because of their immature immune systems and diapers. Diapers
harbor moisture, which is an excellent environment for yeast to
grow. Foods can also cause yeast if the baby is sensitive to the
type of food digested. Babies can also get yeast diaper rash
from breastfeeding when their mother has thrush.

The symptoms of this include having a border of rash redness,
lesions, or scales where the diaper rash is present, small red
spots on top of the red rash and rash in crevices like the
buttocks and groin area. The only treatment that is safe and
effective for babies is cream or ointment prescribed by a
doctor.

Yeast infections that develops in the mouth, throat or on the
tongue is referred to as Thrush. Thrush is marked by having
white spots on the area infected along with redness. Adults will
have a burning sensation associated with this infection. Adults
who are on antibiotics are more likely to get this type of
infection. This is because antibiotics attack good bacteria in
your body that helps balance out yeast. When the good bacteria
are gone, the bad bacterium takes over and produces yeast.
Infants and babies are also susceptible to this infection but
are not usually bothered by it unless it is left untreated.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Affiliate marketing is such a buzz right now that you can
easily lose sight of the essentials. It is important to stick to
the basics and keep your concepts simple. Remember that of all
affiliate income accrues to just 1 of all affiliate marketers.
The super affiliates got there through discipline and single
mindedness. They work hard and work smart. Bells and whistles
are not for them. So how can you sharpen your affiliate
marketing skills and join the quiet and wealthy ranks of the
super affiliates?

Truly successful affiliate marketers have their own websites.
The so called affiliate marketers who simply advertise info
products and direct buyers to other sites cannot be considered
true affiliate marketers. This is because by simply advertising
other peoples sites and taking a fee you are in no position to
build a customer base. With a website you can capture visitors
and email addresses, follow up on them and create brand
awareness for your affiliate companies. Your opt in email list
becomes a valuable asset. Economies of scale also come into play
through having your own website. You can sell more affiliate
products because you don't have to market one link at a time.
Instead you market the whole web site and all its pages with all
the various products related to your theme.

When it comes to affiliate products many amateur affiliate
marketers are like children in the candy store. All the products
look so wonderfully appealing that they choose more to market
than they can handle effectively. Rather take time to
familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of the products and
the associated affiliate information and choose those to which
you think you can really commit. Limit yourself to a certain
number of programs and stick to this number. Later when things
are running smoothly with your existing programs and you feel
you can handle more, then cherry pick additional programs.
Rather start with too few than too many.

Remember that by affiliating with a product you are in fact
endorsing it. What better reason do you need for getting to know
your affiliates products intimately? Zero in on your affiliate
programs and get to know everything there is to know about them.
Treat them as if they were your very own products, which in a
sense they are as your affiliate income is inextricably linked
to them. Knowing all you can about these products will also
enhance the content of your website relating to these products.

The trick of affiliate marketing is never to let up, to keep
going, to hang in there. In that sense it has everything in
common with succeeding in every walk of life. Affiliate
marketing does require consistent work and you might go through
phases when you feel you cant go on. Just stick to your
products, your sites and persevere until you are getting natural
traffic and your business is established. Any business takes a
long time to establish yet many affiliates give up or start
hopping from program to program before the products have had a
chance.

4 Exercises To Build A Sexy Chest
It's 100% absolutely true; you can build a sexy chest
without surgery.

There are myths floating around regarding women and chest
training, everything from chest training will make your
boobs disappear to chest training will dramatically
increase your boob size.

Both of these myths are just that, myths.

I'm going to tell you how you can build a beautiful and
sexy chest by simple weight training tactics that can be
implemented just once a week in less than 15 minutes.

First, let me tell you why those myths are myths.

Smashing the Chest Training and Boob Shrinkage Myth:

Weight training cannot and will not make your boobs shrink.
Breast tissue is made up of fat tissue. Burning body fat
will result in smaller breast size.

Weight training develops lean muscle tissue. Adding
strength training develops the underlying chest muscle and
will add more shape to your upper body, creating those
eye-pleasing and sexy curves.

To put it bluntly, the only way to lose your breast size is
to lose a lot of body fat.

Smashing the Chest Training and Boob Swelling Myth:

Weight training won't make your boobs double in size.
Weight training builds the underlying muscle underneath the
breast's fatty tissue. Muscle is lean and dense, fat is
bulky and mushy.

Muscle tissue added to your chest area will be lean and
dense, giving your chest shape. The added muscle tissue may
give your breasts that needed enhancement and perk.

Bottom line, a good chest training program will add
beautiful shape and stunning high cleavage so you look
snazzy in that hot dress.

Now that I got the nagging myths out of the way, let's
discuss a good chest program to heed the results of a hot
body.

Bench Press

The bench press is the core exercise for the chest muscle.
When you do the flat bench press (barbell, dumbbells, or
machine) you are hitting the entire chest muscle as one
unit.

It's important to build your flat bench press because a
strong chest will assist in other exercises.

Incline Press

The incline press is another core movement for the chest.
The incline press shifts more of the stress to the upper
chest, enhancing your cleavage.

A little plus with the incline dumbbell press is you can
get on an adjustable incline bench and change the angle for
each set or each workout. The higher you adjust the incline
the more of the upper chest area you work.

Chest Dips

An overlooked chest exercise is the chest dips. Probably
the reason this excellent exercise is pushed aside is
because it requires raw strength to execute.

If you are a beginner or haven't ever tried the chest dips,
many gyms have assisted dip machines that allow anyone at
any fitness level to perform dips.

Ideally, you want to get to a point where you can do chest
dips freestyle for best chest development.

Chest Flys

The chest fly is an isolation exercise that puts stress on
the inner part of the chest.

The chest fly can be used in a variety of ways. The basic
is the fly machine (pec deck). Another way to do the chest
fly is with dumbbells, which allows you to target either
the upper inner, middle inner, or lower chest area,
depending on how you adjust the incline bench.

9 Reasons You Are NOT Building Muscle - Bodybuilding Errors
If you've been pounding the iron every day, doing set after
set and repetition after repetition and are showing
absolutely zero results, you are probably making some
costly mistakes just like many other bodybuilders.

This article is to identify and tackle each bodybuilding
error to ensure you are building muscle. When you eliminate
the obstacles, you start making progress.

If you are ready to start making muscle gains, then read
on...

Bodybuilding Error #1: No Starting Point Many bodybuilders
fail to show any progress when embarking on a new
weight-training program because they have absolutely no
idea of where to start. Before beginning a training program
you need to first assess your physique. What are your
strengths and what are your weaknesses? Which body parts
need to be brought up to speed or balanced out?

Bodybuilding Error #2: Tackle Plateaus Immediately Often
time's, bodybuilders have a small growth spurt and then it
stalls dead in its tracks. When this occurs they have no
idea how to continue to produce gains. Hitting a plateau is
not a detriment; it's a red flag to tell you to change
something in your program. This could mean more calories,
more rest, or a simple change in training. Heed the warning
and make changes when necessary.

Bodybuilding Error #3: Failure to Track Most bodybuilders
don't know how to track their progress, or they neglect to
track their progress. Often times, bodybuilders fail to
have a structured system to follow to evaluate and gauge
their progress. Without a roadmap, you are headed down a
dead end road.

Bodybuilding Error #4: Neglecting the Weakest Link It's
common among bodybuilders to train their strongest body
part more because it feeds their ego. Those who don't train
or those who fail to put 100% into their weak body parts
are doing themselves a great injustice, which can create
imbalances.

Bodybuilding Error #5: Supplement Reliance Many
bodybuilders get a condition called supplement-overload.
This is simply taking too many supplements in hopes to
build a superhuman body overnight. There are a few key
supplements that help to build muscle. Knowing what
supplement to take and when to take it can make all the
difference in muscle gains. Overloading on the latest
supplement trend will only deflate your wallet.

Bodybuilding Error #6: No Intensity I see a lot of
bodybuilders lacking intensity. Anaerobic intensity is not
high-volume training. Training intensity is the poundage
and force used. When you fail to challenge your muscles,
your body will fail to grow.

Bodybuilding Error #7: Information Overload It's common for
bodybuilders to be in a whirlwind of excess information.
Information overload is having too much information and not
having the slightest idea of how to implement any of it.
Building muscle is not complicated. Go back to the basics,
train, eat, rest = growth.

Bodybuilding Error #8: Poor Form Bad form is another major
mistake made among bodybuilders. Many bodybuilders are ego
lifters. The weight they try to push is so much that proper
form is missing, which can cause injury.

Bodybuilding Error #9: Fear of Carbs Shunning the carbs is
a major muscle-building error. Carbs are stored in the
muscles as muscle glycogen. This is the fuel for weight
training. Without the proper muscle fuel you will be in a
muscle wastage state. You can eat protein until it comes
out of your ears, but if you don't have glycogen stores,
you won't increase your strength or muscle gains.

Conclusion This is just skimming the surface of
bodybuilding errors. However, if you can avoid the above
you can maximize muscle gains and strength levels far
beyond you ever imagined.

To be a success you have to keep yourself and your ego in
check. Keep in mind your goal is progression, not
perfection. If it means taking a few days off of training,
so be it. Sometimes, taking a step back can put you two
steps ahead.

Let us suppose you are looking for an alternative to your
regular 9 to 5 job or a way to supplement your income. There are
hundreds of work from home opportunities out there once you
start looking. Which one should you choose? Firstly make no
mistake working from home takes a lot of effort and requires a
whole new set of disciplines. Do not make the mistake of
thinking you can make tons of money with little or not effort.
But there are proven ways to make money from home that are more
pleasant and rewarding than working in a traditional office or
shop setting. Here are a couple of options you might want to
consider when looking for lucrative work from home
opportunities.

It is a given fact that the best home based businesses are
online based. If you don't have access to the internet, or you
are not interested in getting it, then don't read this article
any further. This article is overwhelmingly about the profits to
be made online from home.

There is an increasingly popular way of earning money online
from home, namely affiliate marketing. Essentially you get paid
for referring people to other businesses. One positive aspect of
this type of business is that it involves no stock and zero
customer care responsibility. You can operate it in a vacuum. It
involves setting up some kind of web page or blog that links
through to the specific business you are promoting. If a sale
results from someone that visited your page you get a
commission. Thats all there is to it.

There are a number of variations on the theme of affiliate
marketing in the sense that there are degrees of referral, if
you like. Some affiliate arrangements mean that you will be paid
something if a customer merely clicks through to the affiliate
business. Others pay only if a sale results from the referrals.
Others and these should be investigated closely of a percentage
on every purchase a referred customer makes for life.

Affiliate marketing on its own might not be suitable for
everyone. Some people want to be more involved in the products
they are promoting from home. Obviously one can go the internet
entrepreneur route too, selling products that you may or may not
stock 24 hours a day via an automated selling system. If you are
operating a home business part time the automation aspect is
particularly important. These systems run themselves and can be
very profitable for business owners who are willing to make the
effort to build the system.

This article should have shown that there is are basically two
work from home online options the one is through affiliate
marketing where the products of other companies pay the bills
and the other is where the entrepreneur actually stocks the
products being sold or simply promotes products directly which
can be drop shipped to the buyer ultimately. Whichever route you
choose, the internet combined with a great deal of hard work can
prove to be a powerful moneymaking option.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Many small businesses struggle with cash flow in the early
years. One way to improve your cash flow is by factoring your
debts.

When you factor your debts the factoring company gives you up
to 85% of any outstanding invoices straight away. They also take
the burden of collecting your debts away from you. For this
service they charge around anywhere between one and three
percent of the invoice value.

I used factoring in the late nineties when I was struggling to
manage the growth of my packaging business. Some of my biggest
customers were taking a long time to pay their invoices and as
their business increased the only way I could raise money to
keep supplying them was through factoring.

Initially my fee was 2% but after one year the factoring
company reduced it to 1.5%. This fee not only paid for the
collection of the debt but it also insured it so that if any of
my customers went bust I would lose a maximum of five hundred
dollars.

The way this works is that before you supply any new customer
you submit their details to the factoring company and in return
they give you the amount of credit you can offer. All debt
supplied up to that figure is insured and anything above it is
not. I rarely supplied any customers over their credit limit.

I factored my debts for approximately 5 years. The factoring
company only actually made profits from me for 3 of those five
years. The other two years they ended up having to pay me more
for the insurance payouts than I actually paid them in their
fees!

The only problem I had was when they were slightly too strict
trying to collect my outstanding invoices! I almost lost a
customer but after a little bit of delicate negotiation we
managed to save the day.

Factoring has a got a really bad name in the industry but I do
not understand why. It's a great way to boost your cash flow if
suddenly you get more orders than you can handle or your
business starts to grow fast. It really only works well when the
value of each invoice is high.

If your average invoice value is less than a couple of hundred
dollars you will struggle to find a factoring company that will
accept your debt. The main reason for this is that they take a
small percentage of each invoice and at this level their
percentage works out to such a small figure that it is no longer
viable for them to make money from you.

As usual with all these types of articles the standard rules
apply. Do not base your decision to factor your debts based on
this article and always seek expert advice from your accountant
first before entering into a factoring agreement.
