Understanding Inbound Links --- The Good, Bad And The Ugly

Links And Traffic
http://www.LinksAndTraffic.com

All links are not created equal. There are worthless, good and
great links. So, what is the difference between each one? I can
sum it up in one word, "clicks".

The most worthless links are those that appear on pages that will
never be read by a set of human eyes.

Some pages may be "seen" by human eyes, but they will not
"read" by anyone. Bad formatting, no formatting, hard-to-read
text, unorganized content, unorganized links, scraped search
engine results, and pages with more keywords than content, are a
few of the factors that prevent a webpage from being read by real
people. You know the kinds of webpages I am talking about... You
don't read them either. And, you can bet no one else will want
to read at those pages either.

Google is getting pretty good at identifying these trash websites
and removing them from its database, so your link on this kind of
website will not provide any real value to you at all. They will
not give you human visitors, and they will not give you search
engine placement value.

There are two criteria necessary to define a good link. A good
link is on a page that has content that people might want to
read, and it is on a page that real human beings will be reading.

A great link is the same as a good link, but it could have
hundreds or thousands of people looking at it in a single month.

THE EVOLUTION OF ARTICLE MARKETING AS A LINKING STRATEGY

Article marketing has evolved dramatically since the early days
of 2005.

Prior to March of 2005, the only people who really participated
in article marketing were those who understood the value of
providing good quality content in order to get their articles
published.

With the combined introduction of article submission software,
dirt cheap services and the Adsense revenue generation system,
the quality of article content collapsed.

Suddenly, people who were engaged in hiring $5 an hour ghost
writers to write keyword-dense articles for their website,
decided that those same keyword-dense articles that they had
constructed for their websites, could also be used as a tool in
article marketing.

Within just about three months, the publishers and webmasters who
utilized third-party reprint articles in their publications went
from having to pick through 200-300 good quality articles per
month, to having to sort through 2,000 questionable articles per
month to find the 200-300 articles that they would actually want
to consider for use.

For someone like me who was entrenched in the article marketing
industry, this would have seemed to be a good thing. But, with
the introduction of the "Adsense article marketing mentality",
the quality of content just about disappeared.

I still believe that a good article marketing campaign is
predicated by good quality content. I might be stupid, but I
still make good money selling several products and services
through the use of quality content in my own article marketing
endeavors.

One of my friends operates an article directory. He told me that
for every seven articles sent to his site, he must delete six of
them to maintain his website's quality standards! He is feeling
the pinch of poor quality articles, because 86% of the articles
he is moderating must be deleted, creating an environment where
he wastes more time than should be necessary to maintain his
commitment to a good quality website.

ARTICLE MARKETING ONLY WORKS WHEN IT IS A DEMOCRACY

The Adsense article marketers want to believe that they can send
any piece of carp, keyword-optimized article through the
distribution systems, and hundreds of websites will reprint their
article.

But, it does not quite work that way.

Websites that will post absolutely anything sent to them do not
survive. Some of you may think I am full of it when I say that.
You might think that I just have an axe to grind. You are
entitled to your own opinion. But, I could actually give you
supporting examples, if I wanted to fill this article with links
to websites that are no longer operational.

Here is how it comes down. Websites that have no standards,
cannot keep their readers happy. If they cannot keep their
visitors happy, then they will not make any money. If they cannot
make any money, they will not renew their website for the second
year. Sometimes they will do a second year, but they will seldom
if ever do a third year.

The websites that have standards will survive, because they do
have "content standards".

Think about the highest quality websites you visit regularly.
Then think about the kind of content that they use on their
sites. Great websites do not print articles that are glorified
keyword-optimized articles.

Think about sites like:

* http://www.SiteProNews.com - PR6

* http://www.Publish101.com - PR6

* http://www.Site-Reference.com - PR6

* http://www.NationalBusiness.org - PR6

* http://www.HardwareHell.com - PR5

* http://www.AddMe.com/nlpast.htm - PR6

What do each of these websites have in common?

1. They are great websites that develop good and great links.

2. They all have an excellent reputation for providing great
quality content.

3. They all have good PageRank.

4. They do not publish keyword-optimized articles that focus more
on keyword density, than on quality information.

5. They have all published articles I have distributed.

6. NationalBusiness.org has published articles written by members
of my writing team. The other five sites have published articles
that I have written myself... Many of them have published my own
articles more than once.

Quality content delivers quality results.

QUALITY MATTERS

No one wants to put your keyword-directed articles on their site,
unless they have no standards of their own. And, if they have no
standards, why would you want your link on their website?

Personally, I am thrilled not to get those worthless links to my
websites, because the website giving me that worthless link is
considered by Google as a "bad neighborhood" or "spammy
neighborhood".

If you have never heard of Matt Cutts, he is a Google employee
who shares some of the Google inner-workings with interested
webmasters. Take a look at this post and pay close attention to
his comments about "spammy neighborhoods" under the section
subtitled "Bigdaddy: Done by March" at:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/indexing-timeline/

If you want to get a good feel for Matt's take on "bad
neighborhoods", do a search at Google for: neighborhoods
site:http://www.mattcutts.com .

IN CONCLUSION...

All links are not created equal.

Personally, I strive hard to generate good and great links to my
websites.

That sometimes means that I spend several hours writing an
article like this one. When I hire writers to work for me, I
don't pay them $5 an hour. Good writers don't work for $5 an
hour or article. It just doesn't happen.

Remember, my goal is to educate my reader and to provide good
quality information to my readers.

The very nature of putting your reader first, will enable you to
begin finding your articles placed on better quality websites.
The better the website your article appears on, the better the
quality link you will find from that website.

If your purpose in using article marketing to build links to your
website is being done in the "great PageRank chase", then you
really should know that Google only cares about the placement of
your link on sites that have good PageRank --- sites that reside
in "good neighborhoods".

If your purpose in using article marketing to build links to your
website is so that human beings will use them to find your
website, then getting your article placed on good websites will
best serve your purpose.

When all is said and done, if your links appear on good pages, on
good websites, in good neighborhoods, then you have done well.
You will see traffic from those links, and you will see better
link popularity and search engine placement as a result of your
good links. And finally, worthless links are just that...
worthless.

There are plenty of people out there who are trying to figure out
how to make money fast. Whether it's the high cost of gasoline
(and everything else along with it), the desire for a better life
- taking more vacations, getting a nicer car, buying a home of
your own - or you're simply looking ahead and want to be sure
that you've got money in the bank when you need it, there's one
place that people turn more than any other when they are looking
to make easy money: the Internet.

Now, it's important to recognize that there are two types of
opportunities when you're looking to earn money online. First
there's the "opportunity" that's a scam in disguise - the
offers and books and promises of great riches in not time flat
for no effort at all on your part. Then there's the second type:
legitimate business opportunities that allow you to make money
online.

Some people read that and worry that it means that, in order to
make money, they will have to come up with a product or service
that they can offer. Then they think that they will have to learn
more about designing websites, things like blogging, social
networking, article marketing and pay per click campaigns. For
them, the chaos of what they might have to do is often enough to
stop them from taking a closer look at what could be their ticket
to financial freedom.

Don't be like them.

Instead, take the time to learn more about affiliate Internet
marketing - specifically, take the time to learn about affiliate
Internet marketing with Click Booth. Advertisers who already have
established products and services turn to Click Booth to find
publishers to promote those products. From business services to
networking sites, from DVD rentals to home security systems, no
matter what your interests are, Click Booth's Internet affiliate
program offers a product or service that you'll be able to stand
behind.

That's a big part of the reason why Click Booth's Internet
affiliate program is a valuable resource for those who want to
learn how to make money online, but it's not the only reason. Of
the wide variety of affiliate marketing programs out there, Click
Booth offers some of the largest payouts because they only take a
small margin on each sale that you make. Their offers are tested
before the affiliates move forward on them and, rather than
having a nearly impossible to understand payout structure, Click
Booth offers a variety of payment options and reliable payments.

If you want to learn how to make money online, and are looking
for a home based business that you can start right away without
headaches - a business you can start now in your spare time so
that it is established before you leave your current job - you
owe it to yourself to discover the opportunities that exist and
to choose to work with Click Booth, an affiliate marketing
company that you will be able to count on.

Make The Most Of Valentine's Day Roses

Article Description:
====================

One of the top gifts given on Valentine's Day is a beautiful
bouquet or arrangement of long-stemmed roses. But, if you've
purchased roses on Valentine's Day as well as other days of the
year, you may have noticed that they're a bit more costly in

price frustrating, there really are some very good reasons for

One of the top gifts given on Valentine's Day is a beautiful
bouquet or arrangement of long-stemmed roses. But, if you've
purchased roses on Valentine's Day as well as other days of the
year, you may have noticed that they're a bit more costly in
February than at other times. Although you may find the increased
price frustrating, there really are some very good reasons for
the higher cost.

The chief reason for the higher prices is the simple law of
supply and demand. Valentine's Day is the top-selling day for
long-stemmed roses in America, and it takes the sacrifice of
several rosebuds to create just one long-stemmed rose. Then, of
course, there's the fact that Valentine's Day falls right after
another high-demand day-Christmas. After all the Christmas orders
for red roses are filled, it takes growers 50-70 days to grow
enough roses to cover Valentine's Day orders. Unfortunately,
they're forced to do so during some of the worst growing months.
Winter is a time of fewer hours of the sunlight that is so
crucial to good growth. And, since energy costs are higher, it
costs more to produce the roses. To top it all off, winter
weather sometimes makes it hard to deliver the roses in a timely
manner, so extreme (and costly!) measures may be required. And,
of course, with higher order numbers, florists must hire extra
help to meet the demands.

So, knowing how much your special someone paid for those
Valentine's Day roses that were delivered to you, you'll want
to make them last as long as you possibly can. Here are a few
easy steps you can take to ensure your roses last for days and
days:

* Remove the plastic water tubes from the rose stems before you
arrange them.

* Cut off any leaves that will fall below the water line, but be
careful not to scrape the green bark on the stem.

* Cut one or two inches off the end of each stem using a sharp
knife.

* Once you've cut the stems, place the roses into a vase of
clean water mixed with flower food.

* Be sure to look at the water in the vase every day. Keep the
vase full of clean, fresh water mixed with flower food. Replace
the water solution if it becomes cloudy.

* Don't place your roses in areas where they'll be subjected
to drafts or direct sun.

Your Valentine's Day roses and the memories you'll cherish for
years to come are well worth the extra money spent. And, with
just a little effort, you can keep them fresh and beautiful for
days.

Keeping a Journal for Garden Planning
By Monica Resinger
_http://homemakersjournal.com_ (http://homemakersjournal.com)

This is the time of year when the seed and plant catalogs come pouring in
and we can browse through them and start dreaming up our gardens for the current
year. A little planning will help you get what you want out of your garden
and save you some time, money and frustration. A garden journal can be a very
valuable tool when planning your garden. You can keep your garden journal in
a spiral bound notebook, or anything that appeals to you. The bookstores have
journals made especially for your garden if you want to get fancy.

The first thing you want to do when planning your garden is to figure out
what you want out of it. A great way to do this is to ask yourself some
questions and take note in your journal. Some questions to ask yourself are:

~ Do you want fresh vegetables on the dinner table through summer, or do you
want more than that for canning or freezing?

~ Would you like some fresh herbs to compliment those vegetables, make
herbal teas or to give as gifts?

~ Do you want your yard to be colorful with seasonal flowers and would you
like extras for cutting and putting in vases to decorate your home?

~ Do you want your flower beds to have flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruit,
or only flowers?
~ Is there some new plant you want to grow?
~ Where will you plant all that you want to grow?

~ What style of garden do you want--cottage, formal, informal, etc.?

~ Do you want to save a little money by starting seeds, or do you want to
save a little time by purchasing plants?

~ How many plants will you need for a certain area?

~ Do you have time to take care of all that you want out of the garden?

A way to get ideas for your dream garden is to find pictures in magazines or
catalogs that appeal to you. You can paste these pictures into your journal,
or keep them in a folder nearby. When driving around town, look at others'
yards and try to remember what you liked about them. Take notes on what appeals
to you.

Once you know what you want by asking yourself the questions above and
taking note on what appeals to you, you get to make the decisions of which plants
to grow. This is where the catalogs can be a valuable tool. You can also use
gardening books. The catalogs and gardening books will list plant names,
whether or not it will grow in your zone, plant size, plant care and other
information such as flower color.

Once you have planned which plants you are going to grow where, you'll need
to purchase the seeds or wait until the nurseries start selling plants. You
can also put a plant order in through a catalog and they will ship them to you
at your planting date. This can be very convenient.

If you are going to start seeds, it's wise to figure out starting dates and
write them onto your calendar or into your garden journal. To figure out when
to start seeds, find out the number of weeks for germination time on the seed
packet and count back that amount from your last frost date.

Your journal can be a valuable tool next year when making plans. Don't limit
yourself to only writing in your journal now. You can also keep notes
through the year on how well certain varieties of plants did for you, new plants to
try, and anything else that will help you in your gardening efforts. Writing
and reading your journal adds another fun dimension to gardening--try it, I
think you'll like it!

MORE SOURCES FOR SUBMITTING AND RECEIVING REPRINT ARTICLES

There are in fact 100's of groups just like this one where one
can submit articles or one can retrieve articles for reprint.

I know that there are hundreds of these groups, because as the
owner of http://thePhantomWriters.com, I personally manage more
than 125 groups of this type.

You can find groups of this nature on YahooGroups, Topica,
SmartGroups/Wanadoo Clubs, Google Groups, MSN Groups and other
similar services.

The group that I own and manage that has the largest membership
and the largest number of articles being submitted every month
is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Reprint-Articles

This is a very high volume list, and I do recommend that if
you subscribe to receive articles from this group, that you do
subscribe in Digest Mode. This group publishes over 1000 new
articles every month.

TYPE OF CONTENT AVAILABLE

Free-Reprint Articles among others are groups that accept all
content posted, so long as that content is not in the form of
advertisements.

Of the groups that I manage and those that I do not own --- that
permit article submissions on any topic --- number in the range
of 30 groups.

Altogether, I have in my database 250+ article submission
groups. Like I said, 30 groups accept articles on all topics.
The remaining groups accept articles on very specific niche
topics only.

Examples of the niche topics served include:

- Health and Fitness
- Medicine
- Alternative Medicines
- Healthy Living
- Nutrition
- Sports Health and Medicine
- Mental Health
- Diabetes
- Illness
- Recovery
- Terminal
- Death
- Caregiving
- Healthcare
- Self-Improvement
- Motivation
- Inspiration
- Religion
- Christianity
- Holidays and Related History

- Politics

As you can see, the niche groups provide a lot of range in
topics covered. This enables you to send and receive articles
for reprint in very tightly focused categories.

SPECIFIC PLACES TO SUBMIT AND RECEIVE ARTICLES FOR REPRINT

I have a huge list of sites that hope to tell us where we can
submit and locate articles for reprint. Here is a short list of
those sites:

- http://homebiztools.com/article-dir.htm
- http://www.eastrovedica.com/html/articlesubmissioncenters.htm
- http://www.homebiz-direct.com/articleWriting.html
- http://www.arcanaweb.com/resources/article-directories.html
- http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art12838.asp
- http://business-opportunity-online.info/id212.html
- http://thephantomwriters.com/x.pl/tpw/info/faq/12.html

There are literally hundreds of groups where articles can be
submitted, and there are hundreds of online article banks where
one can submit an article directly.

INFORMATION FOR WRITERS

From polling I have conducted with writer's, no matter how many
groups and websites are available to receive reprint articles,
the average writer submits articles to fewer than seven groups.

This is where my site, http://thePhantomWriters.com, comes into
play. I built my own software which permits me to submit a single
article to as many as 250 groups and ten online article banks.

I send a single email to every group that will accept the
article being submitted based on the topic of the article. By
sending single emails, I can be assured that my submissions will
not be rejected on account of cross-posting. Cross-Posting is a
practice of constructing one email and sending it to dozens or
hundreds of destinations.

Most article submission groups prohibit cross-posting. And, most
ISP's consider cross-posting to be a form of Spam and grounds
enough to terminate an ISP account.

By using my service, a writer does not have to be subscribed to
any of the 250 groups to get their articles delivered to the
groups that are relevent to their topics. All subscriptions and
email is handled through my alternate domain,
http://Article-Distribution.com.

In addition to managing all group email and submitting an article
to all relevent groups, I provide multiple records on every
article I submit for my clients.

I also provide my client's articles a place in my online article
bank, and I provide a Cut-and-Paste ready copy of every article
in an autoresponder that is available to any publisher who wants
to reprint the article.

I provide paid advertising and significant promotion to draw more
publishers and webmasters to my archives, so that they can also
find articles that they would like to publish in their ezines,
newsletters, and on their websites. On occasion, articles I have
distributed have also ended up in hard-copy books. Here is the
link to my online article archives for your perusal:

http://thephantomwriters.com/free_content/d/index.shtml

I also provide paid advertising and substantial promotions to get
more publishers and webmasters to join the double-opt-in article
distribution groups that I manage. Once again, the purpose is to
bring new outlets to the articles that I distribute for my
clients.

MORE ABOUT MY SERVICE

The Phantom Writers is a sole proprietorship, operated by myself.
My wife assists me in distributing the articles when time is
short.

Instead of providing my software as a tool that anyone can use, I
provide it instead as a service. It has always been my contention
that any service, that permits the general public to provide the
service to themselves, will be abused.

In order to keep the system strong and effective, I must control
all article distributions. On rare occasions, I have refunded
people money because I felt that their submissions would be
detrimental to the whole service. The credibility of our service
with publishers and webmasters is a necessary ingredient to the
success of all articles distributed through the service.

We offer several options for the purchase of article
distributions. You can review the payment options at:

http://thephantomwriters.com/x.pl/tpw/info/distribution/purchase.html

All articles will generally be submitted within 72 hours. It
must be noted that we do not submit articles on weekends in
order to improve the likelihood of articles being reprinted.
Most publishers polled have said that they only make their
article selections Monday through Friday. So, we make sure that
the articles we distribute are arriving in their mailboxes Monday
through Friday. Occasionally, we will submit an article late on
Sunday night so that the article will be in the publishers
mailbox bright and early on Monday morning.

For a writer to submit an article to seven groups and a dozen
websites can take as much as two hours of tedious, repetitive
tasking. Or, the writer can pay me a small service fee, and I
will get the article out to more groups and more websites than
the writer will generally hit on his or her own.

If you want to learn more about my program, or see which writers
have had good things to say about my program, you can visit my
website directly for the additional information.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
