================== ARTICLE START ==================
Obesity is a real medical condition that affects about a third
of the population of U.S. adults. Obesity is very serious; a
chronic disease that may increase your risk of developing other
serious conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and even
some cancers.
Another impact obesity has on your life --an impact that is
often overlooked-- is a psychological impact. People suffering
from obesity often deal with social anxiety, feelings of
helplessness, and even depression. For this reason many people
are turning to weight loss surgery, or lap band surgery, for a
solution. Lap band surgery helps obese persons to lose weight
and regain their health quickly and with less physical effort
than regular dieting.
While lap band surgery has a direct and dramatic effect on the
body, the psychological effects of the surgery almost outnumber
the physical ones. And while most of these effects are
positive, some are not. So if you're planning to get lap band
surgery, you should be prepared to make more changes than you
ever thought possible… both good and bad.
Positive Psychological Effects
The positive psychological effects of lap band surgery are
pretty well defined. Getting the surgery is a great way to make
you feel better about yourself and your weight. Even making the
choice to have the surgery has a positive effect on your
psyche-- those feelings of helplessness will be gone. Finally,
there is something you can do to truly combat obesity.
In addition, you will also notice many positive changes in the
way you look at yourself, your life, and those around you. When
the surgery takes effect and the weight starts to come off,
people will treat you differently. You'll also have more energy
as the weight comes off, and will need to find positive,
productive outlets for that energy.
Negative Psychological Effects
Not all of the effects of lap band surgery are positive. In
addition to the many physical changes you'll have to make after
the surgery, you'll also notice some negative psychological
effects as you try to deal with those changes. One major change
will be the inability to eat as much as you want. And while
this is a positive physical effect of the surgery, it may affect
you mentally as well. One recent recipient of lap band surgery
said:
"After the surgery it became apparent that food was my `drug of
choice.' It was suddenly gone, like going cold turkey. It took
me about a month of depression (and complaining) to come to
grips with the loss and take charge of my eating habits. Now I
follow the doctor's recommendations for everything I eat, and
take the time to enjoy the energy I have. But it was hard."
Another psychological impact you'll notice is the effect of
your increased energy. And while increased energy is, of
course, a positive thing, chances are you won't be used to it.
It may take time to learn to deal positively and productively
with increased amounts of energy-- at first, it may feel like
you're bouncing off the walls.
Truth is, nobody enjoys changing their habits. Too much change
causes stress, anxiety, even depression. Even making positive
changes can have a negative impact on the psyche at first. It's
important to push through the hard moments and remember that
every change you're making is for you-- and for the positive.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
THE DEFINITION OF SLEEP APNEA
Sleep apnea is a disorder that prevents the body from getting a
sufficient amount of oxygen during sleep. During times of sleep,
the sleep apnea victim or patient literally stops breathing for
small periods of time, creating an extremely dangerous
situation. Over 12 million Americans have been diagnosed with
sleep apnea and that figure includes women, men, and children
though most of victims are older male adults. Sleep apnea is
also known as obstructive sleep apnea and it's the most common
form. Throat blockage, mostly from the tongue or palate, is what
gives obstructive sleep apnea its name - but it's only one form.
Two other forms are central sleep apnea and mixed sleep apnea.
CAUSES OF SLEEP APNEA
There are several causes, however tongue or palate blockage is
the main culprit. Basically, anything that prevents the lungs
from getting enough air to the brain is at fault, thus almost
all breathing problems have been blamed. From smoking and asthma
to being overweight to snoring, sleep apnea is now thought to
play a role in developing diabetes, heart attacks, and even
death. According to a recent study, 30% of sleep apnea victims
dies within four to five years after being diagnosed with one of
its most severe forms.
SLEEP APENEA TREATMENT
Most treatments for sleep apnea involve the CPAP machine
(continuous positive airway pressure). This machine works to
supply the body (lungs and brain) with enough oxygen while the
patient is sleeping. Some machines use nasal masks that cover
the mouth and nose to send air, while others use a
tube-connected mouth or nose piece to deliver air. The idea with
either method is to keep the airway open so that a patient gets
sufficient air through regular breathing.
Since the CPAP machine is a medical device, it requires a
prescription from a neurologist and an polysomnogram (sleep
study) examination.
Depending on the severity of the sleep apnea, a CPAP machine
may not be needed. Some people have found relieve through
natural methods simply by losing weight, cutting out certain
foods from a diet, reducing alcohol consumption, or even
avoiding certain medications under a doctor's advice. Others
have found help from the intake of specific vitamins and
minerals.
Ingesting vitamins and minerals without doctor consent can be
dangerous however since a recent report disclosed that taking
too many supplements (or the wrong ones) can cause problems
rather than relieve them. The best supplements to ask a doctor
about are the ones that stimulate circulation, reduce
cholesterol, regulate metabolism.
Herbal remedies should be avoided because they may interfere
with medications that a patient may already take. Herbs are a
form of medication themselves, and mixing them with prescribed
medications without proper knowledge of their effects is
extremely dangerous. Under no circumstance, should a patient
take a sleeping aid as a way to thwart sleep apnea. Sleeping
aids are designed to deepen sleep, while sleep apnea treatments
are designed to increase airflow. Both treatments solve
completely different problems.

Do you believe that you are what you eat, breathe, drink,
think, and do? That is what health crusader Dr. Patricia Bragg
believes, and she is right. 'Your whole life will be transformed
if you are a good stewart of your health'.
Dr. Bragg is Clint Eastwood's nutritionist, advised Madonna to
decide what type of food to feed her first baby, has kept the
Beach Boys youthful, and has kept Dr. Scholl and Conrad Hilton
hearty to almost 100. She doesn't believe you have to be a
Hollywood Star to follow the Bragg Healthy Lifestyle Plan.
The Bragg philosophy is based around simplicity. Anybody can
follow the healthy lifestyle by realizing that the best things
are free. These include fresh air, sunshine, deep breathing,
exercise, good posture, smiling, and healthy loving thoughts.
Dr. Bragg urges you to take control of your health and ageing
so you can live longer, look younger, and feel better everyday.
If you treat your body well, you will defy the signs of ageing.
Here are her Bragg Healthy Lifestyle secrets:
Start Raw
One of the best ways to supplement your body with natural
enzymes is by eating raw foods. And, if you start a meal with
raw foods you will be less inclined to overeat. Patricia's fresh
veggie mix includes grated or chopped cabbage, grated carrots,
broccoli, bell pepper, beet, celery, and cauliflower. Add a
healthy dressing with raw organic apple cider vinegar and virgin
olive oil. Enjoy your salad before eating any cooked dishes.
Super Rejuvenator
Begin the look younger plan by doing a distilled water fast for
24 hours. Dr. Bragg recommends you drink 7 to 9 glasses of water
and that 3 of these have apple cider vinegar and raw honey
added. Herbal teas and diluted fruit juices are fine. When you
fast, you cleanse the workings of the inner body and this
promotes self-healing. Fasting is a major rejuvenator and
miracle healer because the vital force in your body is directing
itself to purify the body. Fasting one day a week is a perfect
way to be healthier and live longer. When you stop the fast,
start by eating a light raw meal.
Bragg Live Longer, Look Younger Diet
Dr. Bragg recommends the following: Organic foods are the
healthiest. Keep foods as natural as possible in the least
processed form. Patricia's ideal diet is salads, raw fruits and
vegetables, beans, brown rice, legumes, seeds and nuts. Garlic,
onions, spices, kelp, herbs, and lemon juice are the best
flavorings to use. Her company also produces Bragg liquid aminos
and raw apple cider vinegar. Breathe deeply and chew slowly
because your stomach has no teeth. Relax with good music and
savor every bite while being grateful for your healthy food.
When you feel relaxed, you will find that you need less food to
satisfy your body. If you're not happy, then your mind will
never be satisfied and your appetite will follow.
Digestion Miracle Boost
Take 1 tablespoon of distilled water with 1/3 teaspoon Bragg
organic apple cider vinegar five minutes before each meal. Hold
it in your mouth for a few seconds and swallow to stimulate
saliva.
Key to Health
The key to good health is good elimination. That means you
should eliminate in the toilet after each meal. Dr. Bragg
advises against harsh ingredients, colonic irrigation, enemas or
laxatives. Instead, she recommends fiber, liquids, and B
vitamins. Excellent sources include avocados, brown rice, beans,
raw wheatgerm, nuts, vegetables, brewer's yeast, and bananas.
Slow, Deep Breathing
We take breathing for granted, and worst of all, most of us
tend to take shallow breaths. Deep, slow breathing does wonders
for clearing the mind of stress, boosting energy, digestion, and
improving your health. Dr. Bragg wrote a book called Super Power
Breathing. One of her exercises states that you lie flat on your
back, relax, and slowly inhale through your nose. Place your
hands on the lower part of your ribs and feel them expand. When
your lungs are filled, purse your lips and slowly blow out the
air. Do this exercise 15 times in the morning and again in the
evenings to feel revitalised.
Other live longer, look younger tips include the following:
-Massage for health, energy, and relaxation.
-Get deep sleep to recharge.
-Exercise is vital for a healthy heart.
-Take 3,000 mg of Vitamin C daily.
-Every morning tell yourself that you will live a simple,
serene, and sincere life.
Many people around the world enjoy the benefits of Apple Cider
Vinegar Health Tonic. Raw organic cider vinegar helps for many
conditions including arthritis and premature ageing. Most take
their tonic 3 times per day. Stir 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw,
organic cider vinegar and raw honey in a glass of distilled
water. If you do this, you will certainly enjoy a healthier life
while staying younger longer.

Ah back training, other than leg day, nothing is probably more
dreaded.
Why?
Simple, because a PROPER and I want to stress the word proper,
back work out is not easy, it requires work, hard work to be
honest, and that turns a lot of people off.
The reason I am focusing on back thickness in this article is
because I feel it is an area that a lot of people are lacking
in.
It really is a shame because a super thick back will help you
stand out from the crowd, either at the beach or on stage.
O.K. lets get to it.
DEAD LIFTS
To me nothing symbolizes back training like dead lifts, they
are hard, they work the whole back, and to me are a true test of
total body strength, and trouble is you rarely see anyone doing
them anymore.
While people like to throw around excuses, like they are bad
for the back, I suspect the real reason is because of what I
said above, dead lifts are hard, pure and simple.
Now it is beyond the scope of this article to outline the
proper technique to use when dead lifting, but I would like to
give a few tips.
First, and foremost, learn how to do the lift properly from
someone knowledgeable. Then master the technique, and then and
only then, start to add weight to the bar or dumbbells,
depending on which variation of the dead lift you choose.
Second, make sure your body stays tight throughout the lift.
Now I do realize that you may be able to get away with improper
form when the weights are small, but when the weight on the bar
starts to get heavy, any form problems you have will come to a
head quickly.
BENT OVER ROWS
Really you could get away with doing just dead lifts, but the
bent over row exercise is one that not many people do. Plus it
is simply great for hitting the middle back, and most programs
are woefully deficient in ANY form of rowing (and chins and pull
ups do not count as rowing movements) so that is why it is
included here.
The bent over row can be done with either a barbell or
dumbbells, but for beginners I feel it is easier for them to
learn proper form with a barbell. That is what I mostly
recommend, but if you have been around bodybuilding for awhile
and you simply have gotten away from this exercise, use
whichever variety you feel is best.
With this exercise you want to really think two things stretch
and squeeze, and by this I mean you want to give your back
muscles a good stretch at the beginning of the movement and
squeeze them hard at the top.
With the rows, do not worry so much about the weight, get a
good stretch and squeeze and focus on pulling the bar to your
lower pec line and you will be fine.
For variety and to work even more of the back (which is a good
thing) you can also do bent over rows with a reverse grip (palms
facing up instead of down with the regular bent over row).
A good way to fit this row into your routine is to do regular
bent over rows for two weeks and then switch over to reverse
grip bent over rows for two weeks, the change is not only good
for your muscles but for your mind as well.
For the above three exercises I would recommend in the
beginning sticking with the trusted 5x5 program, that is five
sets of five reps per set, when you are just learning them. Then
when you get the form down and are comfortable with them, feel
free to try different rep ranges to see how these affect you.
CONCLSUSION
There you have it, three very basic but very hard back
exercises, which if done properly, will add some serious
thickness to your back FAST!
However, I would be remiss if I did not add this final point.
Please, especially after any workout in which you do dead lifts
remember to consume some form of post workout nutrition, (I
prefer a formula which contains whey protein hydrolysate and
maltodextrin) which will help to ensure that all your hard work
will not be wasted.
HAPPY TRAINING!

Are you on the diet yo yo?
You know the feeling, you lose a few pounds and then gain them
back the next week because you can't stick to the strict
regimented diet. If you're having trouble losing weight, you're
not alone. While it's possible for you to lose weight quickly,
you also need to keep in mind that you don't want to lose more
than 1 or 2 pounds per week, anything more than that can be
unhealthy.
Of course, if you happen to lose five or ten pounds in a week,
then that means your body is flushing out extra water weight and
probably some toxins. However, don't count on this happening
every week.
Keep in mind that while the cabbage diet may cause you to drop
weight quickly, you'll gain those pounds back, and then some,
because there's no way you can sustain yourself eating only
cabbage for more than a few days. Let's get real.
The truth is that every time you starve your body, it will go
into defense mode and store each and every calorie you consume
for survival. So, when you give in and eat that big, juicy
burger with large fries and a coke, your body will hold onto
those calories for dear life, after all, you just tried to
starve yourself to death – that's the way your metabolism works,
like it or not.
Be smart about your weight loss plan and you'll see the results
you want.
Here are some tips that can help you to lose a reasonable
amount of weight quickly:
Eat a Good Breakfast
Did you know that you can burn 5% more calories when you eat
breakfast in the morning?
That's right. Your body is a wonderful machine that thrives on
fuel, just like cars do. When you give it fuel in the morning,
your metabolism will run at optimal speed, which then burns up
more calories.
Throw Out Your Junk Food
Go through your cupboards and throw out all of those fatty
snacks that you love so much. You can't afford to have this
stuff hanging around always tempting you to cheat.
After you've gotten rid of the unhealthy foods, replace them
with healthy snacks that you'll enjoy. Discover the wonderful
flavor of fresh fruit again. Nuts and raisins are also a great
snack food, as well as, dried fruit.
Wait until you feel hungry before your reach for a snack.
Put Out a Tip Jar
Make your own tip jar and put it somewhere safe. Every time you
achieve one of your weight loss goals, put a dollar or two into
your tip jar – or maybe even splurge and pay yourself five or
ten dollars.
This is your reward money for doing a good job and sticking to
your goals.
It'll be fun once you've reached your desired weight and you
can take your reward money and go shopping for something
special.
Dance Around
If you love music, you can pop in a CD or put on your ipod and
wiggle and jiggle your way through some fun exercise. Dancing is
a great way to get your body moving and your circulation flowing
again. Even if you can only do the two-step, moving from side to
side is way better than just sitting on the couch for several
hours.
I hope these tips will help you with your weight loss goals and
I wish you much success in losing those extra pounds and keeping
them off for good.

Yoga DVD's are hosted by knowledgeable yoga experts that guide
the listener through the series of exercises. The instructional
DVD's will be intended for different skill levels from beginner
to advanced and something to challenge nearly everyone.
Beginners
Choosing the right yoga DVD to begin with is as simple as
looking for the words beginner on the packaging. Choosing an
AM/PM regiment for beginners or a total body yoga program would
probably be best for people who have never taken a yoga class.
These types of yoga DVD's will teach the basic poses making
learning more advanced yoga techniques possible.
Other choices for beginner yoga DVD's include those for back
support, weight loss, stomach sculpting, children, and seniors.
Each instructor uses a calming well paced voice to lead the
listener through yoga stretches and poses, helping them to make
the essential, body mind connection. Some yoga DVD's have
different sections within them, which will allow the person
learning yoga to use a more difficult variation of their routine
as they become stronger. They also have an advanced routine with
the same poses teaching the person how to gradually advance
their flexibility and stamina.
Intermediate
Intermediate yoga DVD's are intended for people who already
know many of the basic yoga poses and are fit and limber enough
to not be challenged by beginner exercises any longer.
Intermediate DVD's will have challenging poses that will deeply
stretch the muscles and can help over all health. Yoga DVD's are
intended to bring the health benefits of yoga to anyone who is
interested in learning the art form. Power yoga is a combination
of cardiovascular exercises and intermediate to advanced yoga
poses that give the entire body a feeling of wellness and
exhilaration.
Advanced
Advanced yoga DVD's are intended to challenge people who have
been working at the intermediate level long enough to need
deeper stretches and to learn more exercise and relaxation
techniques. Some Advanced yoga DVD's will give the person
practicing yoga the skill-set to create their own routine. Some
of these forms can include yoga trance dancing, total body power
yoga, and complete body yoga routines. Most of these allow the
individuals to express themselves by combining their yoga poses
in different combinations.
Yoga DVD's can be a fun and easy way to learn yoga, supplement
yoga lessons, continue learning yoga in between locations when
traveling or moving to a new city or state. Yoga is a fun,
relaxing way to exercise the body and mind. People all over
America are using yoga to be more physically fit and to escape
from the daily stress of a fast paced life.
