As you would expect from the fourth largest city in England,
there is plenty to see and do when you visit Leeds, whether that
visit is for business or pleasure.

In fact, Leeds even received the coveted Conde Nast Traveler
magazine Reader's Award as the UK's favorite city as recently as
2004 and was voted the best English city to visit outside London
in 2005.

So what can you do when you visit this popular city?

During November and early December, there is a Christmas
Market that takes over the Millennium Square area of the city.
Then in the start of the new year, the square turns into
Europe's largest open air ice skating rink, so you can practice
your skating skills.

Music fans will want to make sure that they time their visit to
coincide with the International Pianoforte Competition, although
you may need to plan in advance as this event is only held every
three years.

During the summer, you can join in the various free events that
are held as part of the "Party in the Park" at Temple Newsam
stately home. If you're not able to time your trip for this, you
can always visit this grand manor, including landscaped grounds
designed by Capability Brown.

If you are lucky enough to be in Leeds for the August bank
holiday period, be sure to take in the West Indian Carnival.
This colourful event has been running every year since 1967 and
is the oldest such carnival in the whole of Europe.

Film fanatics should aim for Leeds during November, when the
International Film Festival takes place in the city. Here you
can see a wide range of hard to find movies, even including an
all night horror movie selection on one of the weekends of the
festival. If horror isn't your idea of fun, the festival is also
often host to the premieres of various Hollywood blockbusters.
So there's definitely something for everyone at this event.

Earlier in the year, usually in July, Kirkstall Abbey hosts a
traditional festival in its grounds.

Pop music fans can join in with the Leeds Festival, which takes
place at the same time as its musical twin, the Reading
Festival. The two events regularly share the same acts, so if
you are located towards the North of the UK, you may well find
this an easier place to reach.

With all these different events, it pays to book your Leeds
accommodation in advance to make sure that your hotel room is
close to your chosen event (or far away from it if your business
trip takes you into Leeds at the same time as one of these
festivals).

Sports fans should time their visit so that it takes place at
the same time as their chosen team is playing. Whether that's
Leeds United football club who play at the large Elland Road
stadium, the Yorkshire County cricket team, Leeds Rhinos Rugby
League team or even the lesser known women's football team.

Jersey is the largest of the group of islands known as the
Channel Islands. It is much closer to France than England and
although it is owned by the Crown, perhaps surprisingly it is
actually outside the European Union. Irish and United Kingdom
residents can visit with ease. Other travelers will probably get
away with showing a passport but should check with their travel
agent just in case anything different applies. But if you're
visiting from the UK, don't worry about changing currency as
Jersey is quite happy to accept both English and Scottish notes.

When you visit the island, it is quite likely that you will
stay in St Helier, the largest town on Jersey and centre for
many of the attractions you are likely to visit.

There are plenty of shops in St Helier which cater to locals
and tourists alike. You'll also find a wide range of restaurants
and bars where you can spend a pleasant time eating and drinking
as well as enjoying the relative tranquility of the island.

St Helier is also home to the Fort Regent leisure centre, which
features all the latest health and fitness equipment so that you
can work off any large lunches that tempted you!

Fort Regent also hosts the majority of the concerts and other
events that are staged on the island, so be sure to check out
its schedule at the time of your visit.

If you want to hire a vehicle to explore the island, there are
various car rental places on Jersey or, if you are more
adventurous, you could think about hiring a scooter instead.
Just remember that many of the island's 350 miles of roads are
narrow.

There are plenty of beaches on the island, so if all you want
to do is relax and soak up the sun then you will be spoilt for
choice. The island's climate is mild and summers are normally
the sunniest that you will find anywhere in the British Isles.

If you like to surf, then you should most definitely make sure
that your hotel is close to St Oeun's Bay. The area caters for
everyone from beginners upwards to the people who flock there
for the international surfing tournaments.

If you find surfers a distraction from your sunbathing, choose
St Brelade's Bay instead. This is a large sandy beach with the
emphasis on family fun, including fun boats and canoes to keep
the children active.

Jersey was taken by the Germans during World War Two. History
fans should look at the Channel Islands Military Museum, housed
in what used to be a German bunker that formed part of the
"Atlantic Wall". There are hundreds of artifacts that document
the course of the occupation of Germany and you can even see an
Enigma machine on your visit.

More energetic visitors to the island may want to learn to
skydive.

Or you could just mess around on the ocean in one of the RIB
(rigid inflatable boat) trips that will allow you to bounce over
the waves whilst you admire the dolphins, puffins, seals and a
myriad of seabirds.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
The English seaside coastal resort of Great Yarmouth is the
gateway from the Norfolk Broads to the North Sea. It has been a
fishing port for hundreds of years and more recently it has come
to support the many offshore oil rigs that populate the area.

One of Great Yarmouth's biggest claims to fame is its large
beach and the two promenades that run alongside it.

When you visit the town, be sure to look at the Tollhouse. This
is purported to be the oldest civic building in Britain and
dates back to the 13th century. If you have children with you,
they will almost certainly want to tour the dungeons there.

An even older building that you may want to visit is Burgh
Castle Roman site. This has the remains of a third century Roman
fort and overlooks the River Waveney but can only be approached
on foot, so be sure to check out the accessibility details if
you aren't as fit as you used to be.

Going back to the coast, the town has two piers although one of
these was recently demolished in preparation for being rebuilt
as an all round entertainment centre. The Britannia Pier hold
the Britannia Theatre as well as a fairground.

Close by are Yarmouth's Winter Gardens. Architecture fans may
well be intrigued by the mixture of glass and cast iron whilst
younger members of the family will prefer the more modern
facilities offered by the gardens as a leisure venue.

The local Norfold Naval Pillar is a tribute to Lord Nelson and
pre-dates it's cousin (nelson's Column) in London by 24 years.

Fans of the author Charles Dickens will want to visit Great
Yarmouth to see the various locations he used in "David
Copperfield". Who knows, you might even decide to stay in the
Royal Hotel – the very same place that Dickens stayed in whilst
he was writing the novel.

The author of Black Beauty, Anna Sewell, was born in a 17th
century house in nearby Church Plain and you can now visit the
house for a meal at the restaurant it has become.

Horse racing fans won't be disappointed – Yarmouth has a famous
flat racing track which regularly features race meets.

Unusually, Great Yarmouth has a summer season of pantomimes as
well as variety shows to keep you entertained if the summer
weather takes a turn for the worse.

Because the town is so close to the Norfolk Broads, there are
plenty of water based activities that you can try out. From a
leisurely trip in a pedal or rowing boat through to the slightly
faster craft that are available for hire all over the Broads.

Shopaholics should check out the Market Gates shopping centre
for a wide variety of local and national shops.

For a meal or a drink outside your hotel, there are plenty of
bars and restaurants that you can investigate. Your journey for
these is best started in King Street. You'll be sure to find
somewhere that suits your budget and style.

Hmmm, let's see ... there's the usual humdrum chocolate candy
in a heart-shaped box, flowers that end up wilting, lingerie ...
who knows? If you're looking for a sexy Valentines day gift
that's sure to surprise and impress your special someone, then
it's time to think beyond the traditional, whether it's your
first Valentines Day together or the 25th time you'll be sharing
the holiday with someone you love.

Ready to think outside the conventional heart-shaped box? Then
read on ... and, by the way, this is an original and affordable
idea that you can use without having to mortgage the house!
After all, a present that has no creativity or that puts you in
a bind financially doesn't qualify as a sexy Valentines day
gift... just ask anyone, especially a woman about their most
special memories associated with the holiday. Nine times out of
ten, you won't hear them mention candy, flowers, lingerie, or
even diamonds. What you will hear are heartfelt reminiscences of
gifts that created a sense of intimacy and time shared together.

We've all heard or read about creating a warm, romantic
setting, complete with flickering candles and rose petals
leading to a luxuriously waiting bubble bath ... so what's new
about that? Well nothing, actually; however, here's where the
spin comes in with a sexy Valentines day gift that lets you put
an entirely new twist on things!

Now, you know how sexy it is to feel your lover's body next to
yours, especially when their pubic area is smooth and silky from
having been freshly shaved. But have you actually enjoyed the
shaving experience with them? If you haven't, then you're
genuinely missing out here. Remember, half the fun lies in
getting ready!

Here's a sexy Valentines day gift that will really heat things
up a notch or more ... for both you and your lady. Now, this
doesn't mean grabbing a can of shaving cream and a disposable
razor, standing there wearing nothing but a smile. Even the
perfect experience requires a little prep on your part, but just
a little for a memorable occasion with a gift that can keep
right on giving long after the holiday has passed.

So, put down that shaving cream and throw on something over
that smile ... you're a man on a mission here, but a simple one.
You're searching for a bikini shaving kit for her. What the heck
is that?

Get out of your male mindset here and think like a woman. While
shaving cream and disposable razors work for you, they won't
work for her, especially when it comes to creating a mood. You
know how women love their lotions and potions, don't you? Well
that's what they'll get. A nice quality set will include women's
shaving products that feature items for shaving, soothing and
smoothing. And you already know how well soothing and smoothing
works with your woman.

If you want to create an absolutely memorable experience with a
sexy Valentines day gift for her, then it's time to get busy.
You can usually buy a quality bikini shaving kit for her at a
reputable spa, or better yet, you can shop online. An upside to
shopping online? Covering your smile is optional.

Buy some champagne, candles and chocolate and you have a fun,
romantic and sexy evening planned that will be a memory that
both of you will always remember!

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Album cover art has a fascinating and long history. From the
days of Alex Steinweiss to pop artists like Andy Warhol and
Roger Dean, album cover art has evolved; with some highly
praised covers (i.e. the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper LP) to the
controversial, including Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" that
featured nude women.

But using old, generally unplayable vinyl records (LP's) as a
canvas, artist Daniel Edlen is creating one-of-a-kind `Vinyl
Art' masterpieces, adding a new dimension to the art of vinyl
albums.

I spoke with Daniel about his love of art and music and how he
is able to merge the two on the unique canvas of a vinyl record.

"My Dad introduced me to records with the Beatles' "Revolver"
album," explained Daniel. "My Mom volunteered for the local
library, running the used book sales. They would get records as
donations and I got first crack at them because they were
usually too beat up and they didn't sell well. Then I had an art
project in my teens with white pencil on black paper and I
thought, why not try to paint on some of these old records."

But as a record collector yourself, isn't this almost
blasphemy, using a vinyl record as a canvas?

"I have struggled with that question, especially after the
reaction I've gotten from some collectors. My answer is that I
do try use albums that would practically ruin a good phonograph
needle, and also, I'm turning something that likely would sit in
a box in someone's garage into something they can hang on their
wall to celebrate their musical culture. It's something unique
and creative that is a great ice-breaker, starting conversations
about music, art, and all things retro."

When asked about the process, Daniel detailed:

"The actual painting part of the process verges on meditation
for me, it just flows. I'm always listening to music while I
work, often whom I'm painting. It's a joy to do what I do, and
when I write my blog posts, I often end up adding how lucky I
feel that my passion allows me to touch people. The tricky part
is finding and sizing the right image of the musician. I place
the portrait so the label becomes part of the composition,
sometimes highlighting specific information, like the title of
the album or certain tracks that make that particular record
special or important. I use just white acrylic paint, using the
density to create the shading. The whole process takes about a
day."

Recently, Daniel has also begun creating time-lapse videos that
he's uploaded to YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=dedlen. These show the
development of the paintings, using about twenty-five pictures
taken as the painting goes through its stages, and are backed by
music recorded by the subject of the piece.

So, just who is Daniel Edlen? Obviously a very talented artist,
he would draw and paint for fun and enjoyment throughout his
formative years and after experimenting with other art media
(such as sculpture), he did a few pieces of what he now calls
`Vinyl Art' for friends and family as gifts.

His audience not only loved his work, they encouraged him to
try selling them. So with the support of his wife, family and
friends, Daniel decided to utilize his talent and passion to,
not only make something new from something old, but to create a
whole new way for music-lovers to share that passion. For
Daniel, the payoff is peoples' reaction when they see the pieces
for the first time.

Daniel has opened up a web site and online gallery
http://www.vinylart.info/why.htm so the public can see just what
he does. Framed simply in a black metal LP frame with the album
sleeve behind, the focus is on the original painting.

As a vinyl record collector and enthusiast, I am excited and
just marvel at the `Vinyl Art' history and one-of-a-kind
paintings that Daniel Edlen creates everyday. Daniel keeps his
audiences craving more, and as an artist, that is all you could
ever wish for.

4 Reasons Why You Need to Start Investing Today
If you have money that is lying around and not making much
in the way of interest, there are other ways that are more
profitable. By investing your money now, you can have much
more later - when you may really need it. Here are 4
reasons why you need to start investing your money today.

Increase Your Profit Now

If you have your money in a savings account only earning 1
or 2 percent, that really is not bringing in much profit
for you. When you consider that other forms of investment
could bring in a much higher percentage, then it is
actually like throwing money away that your money could be
earning now.

Various forms of investments will certainly bring you more
interest. You will need to decide what level of risk you
want to take with your investment money. It will range from
low risk such as with bonds, all the way up to high risk
with certain volatile stocks. By diversifying your
investment portfolio, however, you can set aside portions
of your investment money for different levels of risk, and
keep a rather good balance on the profit - depending on
your risk level.

Save for Retirement

If you are still young enough, you have time to make some
solid investments that would enable you to retire at a
decent age. It does depend, of course, on just how much you
have to invest, and how it is invested.

The sooner you start, though, the more interest and profit
can be gained from investing if you follow wise investment
strategies. If you do not know how to invest, seek the help
of someone who does. Professional financial investors are
readily available and may even be able to manage your
investment portfolio for you.

Do not forget that money earned for retirement could also
get in the way of getting Medicaid when you might need it.
There are ways to handle your assets beforehand but you
will certainly need to know what they are in advance of
actually reaching your retirement years.

Build A Legacy

If you start soon enough, you may be able to take some of
your hard-earned money and pass it on to future generations
in your family. Wealth can make a real difference in the
lives of your heirs and a good investment plan can help you
make that difference. Just do not forget to use some good
estate planning to ensure that the taxman will not get
about half of your estate.

As you start to consider investing, you certainly want to
get started by making wise decisions. A lot of mistakes can
be made in investing resulting in a lot of money being lost
unnecessarily. You need to read up on investment techniques
and how to plan a balanced portfolio. Another choice would
be to go to a financial planner and get good advice from
him or her concerning how to get started. Some of them may
even be able to manage your portfolio for you and ensure
that your money is being put to good investments which
means making a good amount of profit for you.

You have made a wise, responsible decision when you have
decided to purchase a life insurance policy.

Life insurance can be an expensive purchase, too; because of
this, many people choose not to pay for something they are not
required to purchase. However, life insurance is important to
both you and your beneficiary.

There are two basic kinds of life insurance – term life
insurance and whole life insurance. There are also different
kinds of term and whole life insurance policies, which means
potential policyholders have a variety of options.

Therefore, consider doing a little research on the different
kinds of life insurance policies, and purchase the one that best
suits your needs, as well as the needs of your beneficiaries.

Term life insurance policies:

• Are pure life insurance, meaning they normally do not offer
any other benefits other than death benefits.

• Offer life insurance protection for a specified amount of
time.

• Are generally less expensive than any other kind of life
insurance policy.

• Can be purchased as level term life insurance policies, which
offer the same death benefit the entire duration of the policy,
or decreasing term life insurance policies, which offer death
benefits that decrease each year over the duration of the
policy.

• May be purchased as "return of premium" policies, which means
the policyholder will receive all or a portion of the premium
paid over the course of the policy.

Whole life insurance policies:

• Offer not only life insurance coverage, but provide a savings
component as well.

• Offer life insurance protection for the rest of the
policyholder's life.

• Are generally more expensive than term life insurance
policies.

• Can be used as estate planning tools.

• Can be purchased as traditional whole life insurance
policies, universal whole life insurance policies, or variable
universal whole life insurance policies, which gives the
policyholder a wider range of options from which to choose.

A homeowner will see the benefits of quick home makeovers
during the bidding phase of selling a home. Home buyers
recognize the quality of good work and know that maintaining the
interior of a home requires a lot of work. The prices offered
for a home with a few makeovers will be a clear indication to
the homeowner that the benefits of painting the home interior
twice a year has really paid off. Paint is an inexpensive method
of improving the beauty of any interior wall in a home.

Painting a home is also a useful application to reinforce the
exterior surface of a wall and the visual improvements that the
owner can do during any free time will provide the home with an
enhanced amount of curb appeal if the home is on the market for
sale. Homebuyers are more likely to schedule an appointment to
see the rest of the home when the exterior walls look well
maintained. Paint also supplies an additional layer of
insulation and seals the home surface so that water does not
enter the home through cracks and crevices that are too small to
be seen with the naked eye.

Many homeowners will give the yard a great deal of attention
throughout the year. A quick raking of pine straw and other yard
debris could reap great benefits to the homeowner because this
quick yard makeover will help improve the drainage of water off
the property and into the gutters and allow it to flow into the
sewer drainage systems that are located in the streets. Many
homebuyers will visit a property while it is raining to see the
effects of water on the property. Performing yard maintenance
tasks on a regular basis will enhance the home appearance and
develop good neighborly relations with homeowners in the local
area.

Some quick home makeovers will alert the homeowner to problems.
The home heating and air conditioning system could be filled
with debris that could cause the system to shut down. A quick
spray with a water hose each week will keep dirt and debris out
of the system and ensure that the view is pleasant on that side
of the house. The water spray can remove dirt and grime which
could keep rodents at bay. For those that live in mobile homes,
a layer of skirting will dress up the outside appearance and
keep stray animals from roaming underneath.

The benefits of quick home makeovers can be visible to
neighbors and friends when they come over for a visit.
Candlesticks that were staggered in height had replaced the old
mantel that made the fireplace seem outdated. The colorful
scented candles had changed the mood of the room into an
enjoyable place that the family could spend relaxing hours with
friends at during any time of the day. A down home Southern
flavor could be derived from the placement of cherubs on the
mantle with their feet hanging over the side. A dramatic change
could be made to any room in the home in a matter of minutes
with just the replacement of outdated photographs or photographs
placed in ornate styled frames.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Obviously, the title here suggests that you can lose your shirt
- or get ripped off with some home equity loans. Here is a
common sense approach on how to get and use a home equity loan
wisely.

Who Should Get A Home Equity Loan?

In most cases, not nearly as many people should get one as are
currently applying for it. Oftentimes, it simply is the result
of people who want something - and they want it now. A wise use
of your home's equity, though, is to leave it right where it is
- building up even more equity that come will come in real handy
when you sell it.

A home equity loan, however, is really a loan taken out against
your own home. This means that your home itself is the
instrument that secures the loan. Your house has now become the
guarantee that you will keep on paying your loan. Stopping
payments for any reason - you lose it.

What Is A Home Equity Loan?

A home equity loan is typically a second mortgage. As such, it
has a higher interest rate than a first mortgage, and a shorter
time period to pay it back - up to 15 years.

What Are The Advantages?

A home equity loan can be used for any purpose. It has the best
value, though, when used for renovations or improvements on your
home. Besides adding to the value of your home (increasing
equity even more), the portion used for your home improvement is
usually tax deductible, too. This brings down the interest rate
more when used for this purpose.

A home equity loan can also be obtained in two different ways.
You can get them either as an adjustable rate mortgage, or as a
fixed rate mortgage. This makes it most convenient, and gives
you the flexibility of choice - based on the economy and your
situation.

Is There Anything Better Than A Home Equity Loan?

The best deal you can get is to refinance your first mortgage
with a cash out mortgage. This gives you new terms on your
mortgage, can be used to combine two mortgages (or three), and
gives you the lowest interest rate out there. It also gives you
access to your equity by simply adding the amount of equity you
want onto the loan. You should be planning on staying in that
home, though, for at least the next five years to make it
worthwhile.

What Should You Watch Out For?

When you go to apply for your home equity loan, you need to
take the time to get several quotes and compare them. Lenders
have different fees, and other things that they attach to a
loan. Some will attach more than others - making their prices
higher. By comparing carefully, you can come away with the deal
you want. By not paying attention to what you are getting – you
could lose your shirt. You could pay thousands of dollars more
with one lender than with another. Real savings come to those
who pay attention.

Also watch out for a lender who tries to give you a loan /
equity with a total of more than 80% of the value of your home.
You do not need a 125% equity loan – that creates negative
equity and will keep you there a long time.

How Can You Get Better Terms?

Lenders base their financial decisions largely on your credit
score. You need to get a copy of your credit report and make
sure it is accurate. Also, if you reduce your debt beforehand
and make corrections on your credit report, it can help you to
get a better interest rate and other more acceptable terms.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
While blogging may have started as a way for webophiliacs to
share their personal reflections on life and find sympathetic
audiences, blogging is not what it used to be.

There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of
bloggers, and the fact is that blogging is now done as much for
profit as it is for pleasure.

There answers to the question,"How do you get paid from your
blog?" all depend on your blog's having an audience. You won't
make much money from your blog unless you have the traffic to
entice advertisers, or to respond to your offers.

The secret to getting paid for your blog is to monetize your
traffic

Most of the people who visit your blog do so either because
they need information, or are looking for a specific product or
service and think your blog can direct them to it.

You can make money by connecting your audience with products or
service they might find useful and you have several options as
to how you do it.

1. Adding Paid Text Links

There are sites like contextuallinks which will pay you for
adding text links to your blog posts.

They work with advertisers who want to target audiences in
specific markets, and if your blog audience is large enough and
your topic is a relevant one, you can get paid from your blog by
signing up with them and adding some of their advertisers'
links.

2. Becoming an Affiliate

How do you get paid from your blog by becoming an affiliate?
All you need to do is link to other established websites which
are selling products or services related to the topic of your
blog, and if any of your readers use your affiliate link to
visit those sites and make purchases, you'll get a percentage of
the sales proceeds.

You benefit by getting money without actually having to carry
that product or offer that service.

3. AdSense

How do you get paid from you blog by using AdSense? Simply sign
up for a Google AdSense account if you have read their
suitability requirements. Once your email address is confirmed
and your blog has been approved, the AdSense bots will begin
crawling your blog and deciding which ads are appropriate for
your readers.

You should start getting ads within forty-eight hours, and
you'll get paid each time a reader clicks on one of the ads.

4. Posting Reviews

How do you get paid from you blog by posting product reviews?
Just sign up with sires like http://SponsoredReviews.com, and
advertisers who think your audience would be interested in a
review of their products will pay you to post them. You don't
have to be 100% positive either; they want honest assessments so
that they know how to improve their offerings.

5. Email Marketing

How do you get paid from your blog by using it for email
marketing? If your blog is connected to your own online
business, invite your readers to join your opt in email
marketing list. You can offer an enticement like a discount or
free shipping to any blog readers for their first from your
business.

Instead of looking at web analytics as a tool to make
improvements to your web presence, you must look at web
analytics as what it would cost your company if you ignored its
significance. Would I have your attention, if with the use of
web analytics it is possible that your next e-mail campaign
would result in 50 percent more revenue than your last e-mail.
Think of how much revenue your business is losing because you
don't take advantage of web analytics.

Many companies don't realize the potential for positive impact
that web analytics can have on their business. Often, our
ignorance prevents us from acknowledging the potential of web
analytics. Companies with defined analytics programs are
realizing double-digit growth in new Web site visitors,
returning visitor traffic and conversion rates.

With growing pressure to make your marketing efforts, more
profitable web analytics is becoming more-and-more critical.
Let's say you suspect that your website has to improve its
usability. With web analytics, you can measure the effectiveness
of your site usability. Then, based on the intelligence you
gather, you can make the necessary changes. Due to the
improvements you have made you may be able to improve your
conversion substantially. As a result, you can measure the value
of web analytics in terms of revenue.

The barriers to entry for adopting analytics technologies that
can dramatically improve online businesses have never been
lower. There are many inexpensive and even free options to start
web analytics integrating into your business processes. Web
analytics is not about technology. It is much more about people.
Before you invest money in web analytics, you must invest in
people. People within your organization must realize the
importance of measuring your web presence.

Every business with a web presence must build a strategy around
web analytics. Our goal is to get the highest possible value
from KPIs. According to Forrester B2B, tech companies have
realized 500-800% return on a 100K/yr in house analyst. Retail
businesses realized 1000-3000% return on the same 100K/yr web
analyst.

In the early days of online business, websites were built with
ill-defined goals and very little consideration for ROI. If you
want to succeed online today, you should not spend a dime
without commercial benefit. Unless your decisions are based KPIs
measure through your web analytics efforts, you are most likely
to fail. You cannot compete without knowing exactly how
effective your initiatives are. In every business, the focus is
on the bottom line, and the same is true for web analytics.

Imagine how much more revenue you could be generating by
analyzing the proper KPIs. Even better, imagine how much money
your business is losing by not taking advantage of web
analytics. Today, we have to necessary tools to make decisions
based on data instead of intuition. We have to have a strategy
to measure success and failure to maximize ROI. Always look at
how much something costs. A bad business decision may cost loss
of revenue. A business without web analytics will result in
continuous bad decisions that is very likely will result in a
failing business.

Are Investments With Dividends Better Than Non Dividend Paying Investments
When you have some kind of investment that pays dividends,
or makes regular payments of some kind, you may wonder if
that is the best way to go. Dividends usually come in more
than one form, but it will usually either be cash sent to
you, or a cash amount that is reinvested into buying more
stock for you. With this in mind, here are some thoughts
about why one may be much better than the other.

Companies that give stock may give you the option of which
method you prefer. You decide whether you want the cash, or
having your money reinvested into more shares of stock.

When you receive a dividend from stock, you will, in most
cases, need to pay taxes on that amount - whether or not
you actually receive any cash. So, this will largely rule
out the tax angle in making your decision about which may
be the better way to go.

Being given cash from stock, however, will have an effect
on your stock. Since stock increases and decreases in value
over time, stock is considered to be a worthwhile long-term
investment. This is especially true when a company is
successful and its stock increases in value.

Getting a percentage of your shares back every so often is
actually a removing of a portion of your investment - if it
comes to you in the form of cash. Unless you take that same
amount and reinvest it into some form of interest bearing
account, you are actually losing money that you could be
consistently earning on.

If that dividend is reinvested into purchasing more stock,
then this is by far the better choice. As your stock
increases, you will actually be earning interest on your
interest. This is compound interest, which is of far more
value than you can earn in many institutions. Over time,
this interest on interest could soon double the amount you
have in that stock.

Do not let getting a dividend fool you, though. Just
because a company pays a dividend does not mean that the
company is actually doing well financially. You should
consider selling that stock if you could find one with
greater profitability somewhere else - and get even greater
dividends for even more reinvestments.

If the stock value is good with that company, however, then
you should stay with it. Consider the amount of your
initial investment, the profit you have now, and if the
stock is increasing in value, why not just stay with it? If
it is good company, the stocks will gain in value if the
economy permits it.

Watch out for the company that allows you to reinvest the
dividends, but at a cost to you. While many companies do
this, you may have the option to change it at any time
simply by filling out a form and submitting it to the
company. It may be easier and cheaper to see if the company
will allow you to automatically reinvest any dividends
because there may not be any charges for this service. This
increases your overall value instead of reducing it with
cash dividends.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Debt collection has become an issue with some consumers.
Generally, debt collection procedures do not begin until after
the lender has tried a variety of ways to get paid what is owed
them. Some of the more common methods that lenders use include
sending letters of delinquent payment and perhaps placing phone
calls to the borrower's home. When these methods have proven to
be futile, the lender may pass the loan onto a debt collection
agency or company.

In times past, debt collection agencies could and would use a
variety of tactics to get people to pay. In some cases these
tactics were more along the lines of harassment and intimidation
than they were good business practices. It was not uncommon for
some agencies to call a borrower's place of work. Some of the
more aggressive types would call regularly and that often caused
trouble for the worker. Other companies would falsely tell
people that they (the debt collection agency) were going to
garnish wages if the bill wasn't paid quickly. Many consumers
did not know that wage garnishments have to come through a court
and cannot be levied by a debt collection agency. There were
plenty of other tactics used as well. Some were verbal and some
were written.

After years of abuses such as these, the Federal government
finally had to step in and impose certain limitations on debt
collection agencies. Today, these same types of agencies have to
follow guidelines and rules as stated in the Fair Debt
Collection Practices Act. Under these rules, collectors are not
allowed to do certain things. These include:

Debt collectors may not harass, oppress or abuse anyone. They
may not use threats or harm the person, his property or his
reputation. In addition, they are not allowed to publish a list
of consumers who refuse to pay their debts, except to a credit
bureau. The use of obscene or profane language whether in person
or over the telephone is strictly prohibited. Repetitive
telephone calls to harass the person are also not allowed. Debt
collectors are not allowed to use false information in order to
get a person to pay up. Unless it is true, debt collectors are
not allowed to say that they have attorneys working the case.
They may not act as if they are attorneys working on the case
unless they really are. They cannot falsely imply that you have
committed a crime.

In other matters, they are not allowed to falsely represent
that they work for any credit bureau. Debt collectors must not
misrepresent the amount of your debt. They cannot tell you that
papers being sent to you are legal forms when they are not and
vice-versa. They cannot tell you that you will be arrested if
you do not pay your debt. In addition, they are not allowed to
seize, garnish, attach or sell your property or wages without
court approval. Lastly, they cannot try to frighten you by
telling you that they are going to take legal action against you
if that action is not available as a legal course of action.

You can learn more about your rights and what to do if you are
abused by visiting any of the consumer right's websites.

The different ways that mosaic tiles are used. You can design
beautiful patterns and use them in many different ways.

The ancient art of mosaics is now used in modern homes in
showers and on certain floor areas. This style can add a lot of
color and interest to a room and you can find a wide variety of
shapes, layouts, colors and textures to use. You can really make
a room be different and stand out with the right use of mosaics.
Many people use mosaic tile to create a combination of decor/art
work, for instance a beautiful mosaic pattern as a backdrop on a
kitchen wall tile.

Mosaic tiles are fashioned with small ridges on the back so
that the glue can adhere and they will bond better. Mosaic tiles
can be made of ceramic, stone or glass. The kind of glass used
in mosaics, however, is not the ordinary glass that is sharp
once cut. It is a vitreous glass that is closer to stone, and is
opaque rather than as clear as glass. If you have decided to
decorate with mosaics, you should make sure you work with tools
and materials specifically made for mosaic work. There are
specialized cutters for mosaics made from glass-you cannot use
regular tile snips because they will not cut them as accurately.
Many times you will see mosaic tiles made of ceramic used in
architecture, since they are inexpensive and easily cut. Another
often used type of mosaic tile is broken pieces of china or
other dinnerware. These are difficult to work with since ceramic
pieces are difficult to break, and therefore have very sharp
edges when broken. Mosaic tiles will frequently be pre-designed
and attached to a mesh made of fiberglass to keep the design
intact. In this way, it can be glued all in one piece to keep
the pattern intact. You can separate the tiles if you need to,
by soaking them in warm water, which will cause the tiles to
come free of the mesh.

Floors are not the only surf act where you will see mosaic
tiles. Tabletops with mosaic designs are very lovely and can
make a piece of furniture a true work of art. And of course,
swimming pools are lined with mosaic tiles, sometimes just in a
simple pattern, but sometimes with a design worked into them
that can be seen through the water.

Homeowners who want to add a sunroom onto their house will be
pleasantly surprised at the number of options available to them.
After considering what type of sunroom will work best and the
budget for the investment, a homeowner must then get in touch
with a reliable sunroom contractor to put the plan in motion.
When a homeowner decides a conservatory sunroom is the right
addition for their home and family, they are choosing a truly
unique structure that guarantees the most light and a feeling of
truly being outdoors.

Conservatory Patio Rooms vs. Conservatory Sunrooms

A contractor will likely want to clarify whether a conservatory
patio room is desired or a traditional conservatory sunroom.
This can perplex the homeowner who does not do their research
and can be disastrous if there is not clarification! There is
one basic difference between the two structures.

A structure that is composed of all glass walls and with a
glass paneled roof with a central beam is called a conservatory
sunroom. They are fully insulated with heating and ductwork
throughout. While these rooms were once considered only a place
for wicker furniture and plants, they are now being used as
kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and studies. Their energy
efficient windows are especially durable and made to block out
harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun while providing maximum
exposure to natural light.

Conservatory patio rooms are built on top of an already
existing structure, such as a deck or a cement slab where a
patio would be. In order for a conservatory patio room to be
built, the slab has to be strong enough to hold the weight of
not only the structure but the snow or water that may fall on it
throughout the year as well. These are commonly referred to as
'3 season sunrooms', as conservatory patio rooms are not
typically built to be used year round.
Beyond a ceiling fan, there are no heating and cooling systems
installed. This makes them less expensive than conservatory
sunrooms but not fit for use as a kitchen or bedroom.

It is typically the goal or aim to be able to use a sunroom
year round. In order to do this, a comfortable temperature must
be maintained even in the heat of summer and the coldest of
wintry weather, so a fully insulated conservatory sunroom is
what a majority of homeowners have in mind when they choose this
option.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Certain doctors have been aware of follicular units for a long
time now, but the knowledge only recently made its way into hair
transplant methods. Now these ideas are being used in hair
restoration every day.

To understand how follicular units have affected hair
transplant surgery practices, it is necessary to first
understand what a follicular unit is. A follicular unit is a
single entity that is made up of several parts. All these parts
are necessary to the whole.

The first part, and the one most people getting hair transplant
surgery are interested in, is the hairs. There should be one to
four full hair follicles in the unit and one or two fine hairs
as well. There are sebaceous glands in the follicular unit
which produce oil.

The follicular unit is a living unit with muscle, nerves and
blood vessels that are all tiny enough to fit into this small
package. The unit is set off by a band of collagen that holds
it together. If you look under a microscope at a scalp, you can
see follicular units growing in just this way.

The idea of bringing this information into hair transplant
procedures led to innovative surgical methods. Rather than just
moving around individual hair follicles, surgeons actually moved
a unit which contained everything the hair needed to keep
growing. The results were ground-breaking.

One way surgeons used to move the donor follicular units to the
balding areas was by single strip harvesting. This is done by
moving small strips of tissue containing follicular units. This
method keeps the units intact and ready to transplant. Earlier
methods such as mini-grafting and micro-grafting broke up the
follicular units.

As a part of the hair transplant process with Follicular Unit
Transplantation (FUT), a new microscope technique was used. It
is called stereomicroscopic dissection. This means that the
follicular units are carefully taken out of the donor tissue and
kept individually intact.

When doctors use hair transplant procedures with FUT, they do
not have to use quite as large of a donor site. The follicular
units are small and they can be separated from tissue that has
no hair, under the microscope. That way, only the tissue that
grows hair is transplanted. It is a much more efficient
procedure in that way.

Follicular units placed during hair transplant procedures are
put into tiny holes the size of needles. The insertion sites
heal quickly, and they leave no marks. This makes for a much
more comfortable recovery and better results.

FUT hair transplant procedures can make a big difference in the
number of times a patient will have to go back for more
treatments. More grafts can be done at one session, so that the
patient has to go back fewer times. This is more convenient to
patients.

Hair transplant done using follicular unit procedures is
becoming more and more the norm. Possibly this is because it
puts hair into the scalp in the same arrangement as it grows
there naturally. This represents a leap forward in hair
transplant technology.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
A lawn care equipment centre is an ideal place to visit if you
do not yet have the right tools to maintain a healthy lawn.

It is obvious that if you want to have a great and healthy
looking lawn, that you will need the right tools for the job to
help you to achieve it. If you do not have any equipment, you
may want to visit a lawn care equipment center, where they will
provide everything that you need to either improve or to
maintain your lawn easily. You will be absolutely spoilt for
choice at the selection available and you will be able to find
everything that you need and more to really have an impressive
looking lawn that will make your neighbors envious.

Finding What You Need

Whether you want a lawnmower or even an irrigation system, you
will certainly have a great choice available to you. You can
also ask someone at the lawn care equipment centre for advice on
what equipment will be best suited to you.

If you are worried about spending a lot of money on the
equipment, you will need to think about the investment. Also if
you go for a cheaper option, you may have to replace it within a
shorter time period than usual, so it may be better to spend a
bit more and ensure the quality of the product so that it lasts
longer. The better the quality of the product, the more of a
benefit your lawn will receive and you will certainly be able to
tell in the results.

Some pieces of great equipment that you may have never
considered before include:-

• Mulching Lawnmowers
• Automatic Irrigation systems
• Leaf vacuums and snow blowers

These pieces of equipment are easy to find in a lawn care
equipment center and they can have some amazing benefits to your
lawn as each piece of equipment is different. With a mulching
lawnmower it is very easy to use and it is a great way to save
time too as it helps to save you time from emptying grass
clippings every two minutes.

An automatic irrigation system works by a clock, but if you
were to leave it on an automatic setting then you may end up
wasting more water than what you should. By using the clock, you
can determine whether the grass needs to be watered or not and
therefore you are only using the water when it is needed.

Finally, leaf vacuums and snow blowers are great for obviously
getting rid of leafs and snow off the lawns, which can cause
damage to the lawn or at least make it look untidy. With the use
of blowers, they help to get rid of things that are on the grass
and the same with the vacuums as well. So they are both great
pieces of equipment to have if you are serious about taking care
of your lawn.

As you can see there ire some great pieces of equipment out
there to help you to maintain a healthy lawn and you can find it
all at a lawn care equipment center.

Good Investments for Times of Recession
There has been a lot of news lately that we may be headed
for a recession. While this may or may not be, it is true
that certain types of investments are more prone to take
heavy losses if a recession could occur. You should take a
look at your investment portfolio and see how it might do
if we do enter one. A little preparation could be a lot
better than hindsight. Here are some tips for you to help
you weather the possible storm a little better.

Diversify Your Investments

One of the best strategies to help you get prepared for a
recession is to diversify your portfolio. This means divide
it up into several groups and place that percentage into
different kinds of investments. This means that not all of
it should go into stock, but some should also go into
bonds, mutual funds, and other investments.

You also want to stay away from putting it all into the
same type of investment. In other words, do not put all
your money into telecommunications, or real estate, or
metals, and similar things.

Keep Your Assets As Liquid As Possible

Another safety in the world of investing is to be able to
buy or sell easily. If your money gets tied to a market, it
is possible that you may either lose it altogether, or it
could become unusable for a long time. An example of this,
as many have already learned, would be real estate. People
have their investment (equity) tied up in some property
they cannot sell. Although no one could have really
foreseen this happening, yet it has. Some real estate
properties still sell easily - repeatedly, and other
properties do not. You do not want all of your assets tied
to one or two things where you may not be able to sell it
and get access to your cash.

By diversifying into at least 5 or 6 different markets, at
least half of your investment should remain easily
liquefiable. This should help you maintain value.

Watch Trend Markets

Some markets simply follow trends because a company may be
investing in something that is hot now. Generally, this
only has short-term value. While profit can be gained in
the short term, unless that company comes up with hot items
continually, they cannot maintain that status.

On the other hand, markets like metals or industries that
society depends on over the long haul, these will be more
stable markets in the long run - even in recessions.

Watch for the Long Term

During more difficult economic times, it becomes necessary
to allow your investments to take some dives. You should
expect this. In times of recession, this can occur across
the board and there may not be much that you can do about
it. Instead of moving your stock from one place to another,
however, look for long-term trends that will often
straighten themselves out and, hopefully, turn for the
better.

During recessions it is also possible to get some terrific
deals. Stock values may fall, but if you believe that a
particular product will still be around after the
recession, then you may very well want to go bargain
hunting if a recession comes.

PPC (Pay Per Click) is probably one of the most cost effective
ways of targeted advertising on the internet. Forbes magazine
has reported that PPC, or Pay Per Click, accounts for 2 billion
dollars a year and is expected to increase to around 8 billion
dollars by 2008.

Here is a brief look at how PPC works.

PPC search engines create listings and rate them based on bids
placed by the advertiser. These bids are what the advertiser is
willing to pay for each click received from that search engine.
Advertisers must bid against each other to get a higher ranking
for their keywords and so achieve a better position in the
search engine. The highest bidder for a certain keyword will be
ranked as number 1 in the PPC Search Engines, followed by the
second and third highest bidder and so on, up to the last
advertiser to have placed a bid. Your adverts will then appear
prominently on the results pages dependent upon the dollar
amount bid that you have agreed to pay per click.

So how do you make money by using PPC?

Affiliate programs only pay when a sale has been made or lead
delivered by clicking through to your site. Your earnings will
depend on the strength of your PPC ad which determines your CTR
(click through rate), and the strength of your sales page.

PPC should be in your advertising arsenal because it is the
ONLY way to practically guarantee a good position in the search
engine listings thus giving you more of a chance to make a sale.

PPC can be very useful for your website. You will not only get
sales from those who are searching the web to find the products
and services that they want, but you will also be able to build
your site's authority as a valuable resource. The visitors who
have found what they wanted from your site are more than likely
to come back and see what you are offering more closely. This
will give you a chance of repeat custom and even more income. It
is a good idea to build a list of your customers details by
incorporating a form on your website for them to complete. Lists
built like this give you a strong market to cater too.

If you don't have a website and product of your own to promote,
there are plenty of affiliate sites to profit from. These
affiliate sites have ready made products and websites for you to
promote, and you receive a percentage of the profit from every
sale you make. They will even give you sales copy and other
tools and resources to help you in your marketing efforts. This
is an excellent idea. You need have no storage facilities and
will have no fulfillment costs. All you have to do is advertise
the products and any sales will be dealt with by the affiliate
owner.

So all in all PPC is a must have resource in your on line
business.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
For years, the only way you could sell your home through a
broker was to pay a commission based on a percentage of sales
price, often 6 to 7%. The higher the price of the home, the more
an agent would receive for selling it. An agent selling a
$1,000,000 home would make ten times more than one selling a
$100,000 home. But does an agent do ten times more work selling
a $1,000,000 than a $100,000 home? Certainly not. Agents might
have spent slightly more marketing an expensive home, but
largely the costs of providing the service was the same. While
homeowners wanted a different type of commission, for years they
had very few options.

In the 80's and 90's, different brokers around the country saw
an opportunity and decided to experiment with a new price
structure: the flat fee. Rather than charge a commission based
on a percentage of sales price, their would be one flat fee
regardless of sales price, often $1000 to $10,000 with $2995 and
$3995 seeming to be common. The savings to homeowners could be
large, especially for higher-priced homes. The concept began to
become popular and put pressure on traditional agencies to price
their services more competitively. A discussion of commissions
came up more often, and agents faced more pressure to outline
exactly what they were doing to justify their fees. Some agents
started to realize that they might be able to make more money by
charging less, but listing many more homes per year. Companies
grew and national franchises began to use the flat fee model as
a means of differentiating themselves from the competition.

While homeowners would only be charged a flat fee by the
listing broker, it is important to note that to gain exposure to
buyer's brokers through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS),
homeowners usually also offered a commission to any buyer broker
that brought a buyer. More often than not, this remained a
percentage, often 2.5 to 3%. The thought is that the buyer's
broker is the one that ends up doing the most work in a
transaction, helping their buyer to locate properties,
previewing and showing properties to their client, drafting the
purchase contract, arranging inspections, etc. Thus, the
thinking goes, they deserve to earn a higher fee than the
listing broker.

Today, the flat fee listing concept has been refined and
polished. Brokers have unbundled their service offering to allow
homeowners to pick and choose exactly the services they do or do
not want. For instance, an MLS listing might only cost $300 to
$400, while a virtual tour might cost $100 to $200, and a sign
might cost $5 to $100 depending on its quality. A homeowner that
lived in a subdivision that did not allow signs would not have
to pay for one, while they might opt for a virtual tour to
showcase to prospective buyers some of the luxury finishes of
their home. Flat fee listings are no longer just a small niche
in the real estate world. Hundreds of thousands of homeowners
have chosen flat fee listings for the cost savings and control
over the listing that they allow. What was once an experiment is
now reshaping the real estate industry.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
Once you've been diagnosed with acid reflux disease, there are
some changes you'll have to make to your diet and lifestyle in
order to feel better permanently. While you may have experienced
severe symptoms in the beginning, continuing to eat the foods
that cause reflux symptoms could prove to be harmful to the body
in the long run. Here are some of things you can do to minimize
this condition in your life, one step at a time.

In order to get rid of the lingering symptoms that can
sometimes be a part of reflux, such as slight headaches, stomach
pain, or hoarseness, you'll want to make sure that you reduce
your stress level as much as possible. You can do this may
making sure that you enjoy yourself by laughing with friends and
family, and even taking time out for yourself a few times a
week. You should also make sure that you're getting your
exercise in every week; riding a bike, brisk walking, and
jogging are all great ways to make sure that your acid reflux
disease doesn't flare up again, and taking up activities like
yoga and meditation are good ways to center your mind and body
as well.

Wearing loose clothing can also help you to reduce the
discomfort you feel from acid reflux disease. Many times, tight
belts or shirts can make your chest pain even worse, so wear
clothes that are comfortable for you, especially if you will be
eating while on a trip. If you drink or smoke often, reducing
these activities, and eventually stopping them, will help you to
regain the strength of your heart, and reduce the erosion of the
esophagus that comes with reflux.

Changing your eating habits will also help you to get rid of
acid reflux disease. If you are used to eating a large meal
every night, or if you have a large breakfast, you may find that
your discomfort starts right after eating, making it hard to
sleep--or stay awake. Instead, try eating 4 or 5 small meals
every day, so that your body will be able to process the food at
its own pace. Eating too much or too fast can also cause stomach
contents to be pushed back into the esophagus, so smaller meals
may be best for awhile. You should also make sure that you are
active after eating; don't lie down right after a meal. Help out
with the dishes, take a walk, or spend some time playing with
the kids so that your food can digest properly.

When you are ready to turn in for the night, make sure your
food has had at least three hours to digest, and try to sleep
with your torso somewhat elevated. Acid reflux disease is easy
to manage if you follow a few simple rules in order to get your
health back; for more information and prescription information,
be sure to consult your doctor.

Weight training properly is known by few. If it was easy then
you would see a lot more muscular and lean physiques on the
streets. Before you learn how to weight train properly, it is
critical that you learn these five weight training tips before
you even step foot in the gym.

1. Write down a realistic short term and long term goal.
2. Make a commitment to stick to one program for at least 12
weeks.
3. Educate yourself prior to starting.
4. Hire a trainer to teach you proper technique.
5. Focus on gradual progression.

Weight Training Tip #1: Goal Setting

Inch-by-inch life is a sinch. Yard-by-yard life is hard. Treat
your goal setting the same way. Do not expect to be on the cover
of Men's Health by next summer. Decide how much muscle weight
you wish to achieve in three months. Six months and one year.
Decide where you wish to finish and work backwards. If you wish
to gain 50 pounds by the end of the year, than create a game
plan that allows to gain at least one pound per week.

Weight Training Tip #2: Commitment

The only reason you will fail is if you are not truly committed
to your goals. Do your homework and find a weight training
program ideal for your specific goals and situation. Study the
program fully prior to commencing. Comprehend every detail of
the program and if you don't, contact the author of the program
to ensure you have no excuse to misunderstand or perform the
workout incorrectly. After you chosen a program, take
responsibility for your decision and follow it to it's full
completion. Do not try it out for three weeks and than say,
"It's not working..." and try another program. This will create
a failures attitude and begin the deadly bad habit of program
hopping

Weight Training Tip #3: Education

How much do you really know about building muscle? Let's put it
this way, if you had to teach someone else how to transform
their body in the next twelve weeks, could you help them? Never
mind, could you transform your body in the next twelve weeks? If
not, you probably do not know enough about how your body works
from a training, nutrition and recovery stand point. Order a
book, visit a reputable website and find out everything you must
know, about proper weight training, before you start the
guessing game.

Weight Training Tip #4: Proper Technique

You wouldn't try and drill your teeth? You wouldn't try and do
your own taxes? You wouldn't try and fix your own car? Assuming
you have no expertise in dentistry, accounting or automotive
repairs. So why would you try and teach yourself proper weight
training technique? It boggles my mind why so many people across
North America sign up for a gym membership and jeopardize the
health of their tendons, ligaments and joints with the attitude
of "I think I'll try it on my own," or "My friend is going to
teach me," or "I am self taught from watching others..." Do not
be cheap and leave your ego at the door and hire a reputable
fitness trainer who can teach you proper weight training
technique.

Weight Training Tip #5: Progression

I'll say this again. Inch-by-inch life is a sinch. Yard-by-yard
life is hard. Approach each workout with this attitude. Your
bench press does not need to go up twenty pounds in the first
week. But just imagine your bench press went up consistently
2.5-5 pounds every week for the next year? That would be some
serious muscular and strength gains! Your goal is to simply out
do yourself from workout-to-workout, week-to-week. Whether you
do one extra rep, one extra set, a extra 2.5 pounds or a shorter
rest period, these are are measurable signs of weight training
progress.

Conclusion

Make your weight training life easy by starting with the the
above weight training tips and look forward to a rewarding and
fruitful adventure in the gym.

History of photo printing

It's amazing that photo printing – something that used to
involve a lot of time and effort – can now be referred to as
"photo printing." Just a few short years ago, getting a photo
print meant going through a wide variety of steps, not the least
of which involved buying film, taking it to the processor,
getting back a bunch of prints you really didn't want, etc.

In fact, it has gone beyond simple convenience. photo printing
is partly responsible for a worldwide surge in creativity.
People who never thought of themselves as creative are now
taking digital pictures, uploading them to the web and then
outputting their work with photo printing.

This is all thanks to the technological innovations in the
digital age. Just a few years ago, we were all still fumbling
with loading film in camera. (Ever load it backwards? Or forget
to load it completely? Don't be ashamed, most of us did both at
one time or another.) No matter who you are or where you live,
it's hard to escape the digital photographic boom that's
happening online.

photo printing – not so easy in 1839

Think back to the very old days of photography – it began in
1839 and was isolated to people who understood how chemicals
interacted. It took most of a day and a lot of preparation to
get just a couple of photos – so much for photo printing.

The type of "photo printing" process they used in 1839 is still
very similar to what is used today. It's basically a five-step
process that requires a darkroom, multiple trays filled with
chemicals, some a bit dangerous, expensive equipment, and a lot
of time.

Now there is a place for this type of photo printing – for
people who really enjoy the process, artists who want to get a
certain effect, hobbyists, etc. People still have film cameras,
darkrooms, light sensitive paper, and lots of fun exploring this
fascinating art form. It truly has its rewards. However, in this
day and age, it is not photo printing.

Innovation brings photo printing to the masses

Photography started to really change in about 1900, with the
introduction of simple cameras that were really just black boxes
with a lens and film. The advent of these cameras was the first
revolution in photo printing and photography – at last this
highly expressive art form was open to the masses.

photo printing was within reach to anyone who could afford to
buy the camera and process the film. Since the cameras only cost
about $1 – a lot in those days but still affordable – many
people who had never taken a picture before in their life were
snapping pictures like crazy.

The next innovation in photo printing didn't happen until the
1940s with the advent of the "land camera." At first glance,
this camera looked simple – but what it could do revolutionized
the way we defined photo printing.

These land cameras could produce a picture on the spot. You
simply took the picture and waited for the print to come out of
the camera. When it did, you just had to let it sit for a minute
or two, and voila, you had photo printing, right then and there!

There were drawbacks, however. The picture's came in a small
size, and if you touched the print too soon, it smudged. The
camera was really just a way to get fast, photo printing into
the marketplace.

Internet revolutionizes photo printing

Not much changed until the Internet boom of the 1990s, but even
then, digital photography was just a few years behind Internet
technology. But when the camera technology caught up, the
combination of digital photography and the world wide web was
unstoppable. In the early 2000s, more and more websites offering
photo printing services cropped up.

Now, you can simply go online, upload your photos to a photo
sharing website, and then have your photos printed and delivered
directly to your door. And the quality is amazing – probably
better than what a standard film processor could have ever
offered in the old days.

Of course, since the technology folks are constantly looking
for ways to innovate and make our lives easier, it's a sure bet
that even more methods for photo printing will appear in the
near future.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
The writing of United States history books has been dominated
by status quo educators and traditionalist leaning historians.
It seems that thousands of them have written thousands of books
with very little diversity of philosophical perspective and even
less regard for a host of uncomplimentary facts. If someone
should voice the opinion that United States history books read
like a conspiracy of white power mythologists, he or she could
turn to a mountain of evidence for support. No country's history
is as reproachless as traditionalists make that of the United
States of America seem when they write and teach United States
history.

But the perspective of the traditionalist educators is now
being challenged. One book that looks at United States history
from less than a complimentary perspective is Mba Mbulu's An
Introduction to White History: The History of White America.
Unlike many historians of American history, Mba Mbulu
supplements his university studies with years of independent
research, and is able to present a picture of American history
that will be met with such subjective knee jerk reactions when
read by status quo Americans that I feel impelled to write about
it.

Mba Mbulu's An Introduction to White History is a summary of
the concepts, principles and motivating factors that led to the
establishment and expansion of the United States of America.
Since it is usually implied that "American" history is the
history of "superior" white people, this precise title makes it
clear that such is not the case. There are several histories
that make up American history, and the history of white
Americans is only one of them.

What An Introduction to White History brings to the forefront
is the unusually powerful and concentrated role finances and the
profit motive have played in the political and social
development of white America. It is white Americans' unusual
preoccupation with finances and profits that distinguishes them
and their institutions from those of all other Americans. It
behooves all other Americans to not underestimate that unusual
preoccupation when determining the essence of their relations
with white America, and it behooves teachers and other educators
to account for that unusual preoccupation when they teach their
students.

One can acquire a more complete basis for understanding the
underlying principles that guide this writing by reading Chapter
One of Ten Lessons: An Introduction to Black History (also
written by Mba Mbulu).

Traditionalist educators in schools and colleges in the United
States should give more consideration to how nonwhite Americans
view this country. They might not like the contrary perspectives
they are made aware of, but that might create the jolt that
motivates them to be less subjective and better teachers.
Traditionalist educators should expand their field of vision if
their objective is to educate instead of indoctrinate. They
should culture the ability to accept the intellectual equality
and legitimacy of perspectives other than their own. Mba Mbulu's
An Introduction to White History: The History of White America
could be the dose of reality so many of them so sorely need.

================== ARTICLE START ==================
In this modern era of mass marketing, we are bombarded by
electronic messages. After awhile, advertising and promotions
all start to sound, feel and look the same. There was a time
when the perfect combination of artistry, imagination and
originality could be found in vintage metal and tin signs. Many
of todays most recognizable brand names got their start as metal
signs.

Products too numerous to mention have been promoted with a
style and wit that today seems all too nostalgic. Vintage tin
and metal signs were produced by the hundreds of thousands from
the mid eighteen hundreds through the advent of television in
the late nineteen forties. Most were painted or screen printed
using enamel paint and many were given a porcelain overcoat to
increase their durability. The irony of all this is that many
vintage metal signs outlived the very companies and products
they were meant to promote.

This is not say that metal signs have completely disappeared
from the landscape. Highways signs, street signs and metal signs
of kinds are still with us, though most serve a more utilitarian
purpose. The golden age of vintage metal signs has been
maintained through reproductions and the zeal of collectors to
preserve a piece of advertising and artistic history.

Aging metal and tin signs that have begun to rust should never
be refinished. Vintage metal signs that are in good condition
are highly prized by collectors. A little rust may devalue the
sign just a bit, but the nostalgic value is priceless. When
buying any type of antique or collectible signs, the well
informed collector must be able to know the difference between
vintage metal signs and reproductions. The rule is always buyer
beware.

Reproductions of famous metal signs can be found almost
everywhere. Even though they are not true antiques, quality
reproductions of metal and tin signs are a great way to accent
the decorating theme of your home or business.

Many companies would provide merchants with durable metal and
tin signs in order to promote their products. Among the most
popular collectible signs are those that have anything to do
with Coca Cola. Coke was able to create their brand by extensive
promotion. From big cities to rural farming communities,
merchants who offered Coke products for sale may have had
several metal signs advertising that fact.

Manufacturers of tractors and other farm equipment produced
metal signs that were often fixtures at general stores, Grange
halls and feed stores all over the country. Companies such as
John Deere, International Harvester and Ford produced many
styles of metal signs. These farm equipment signs are favorites
among collectors of items that reflect classic Americana.

The great outdoors and the sporting life are amply represented
by a number of famous brand names. Metal signs from Winchester,
Remington and other gun producers helped to create these now
famous brand names. Much of the illustrative artwork used for
this genre was produced by some of the best known artists and
illustrators of the day. The combination of beauty nature
illustrations and catchy slogans make metal depicting the
growing market in sporting goods.

No discussion of vintage metal and tin signs is complete
without looking at the automobile industry. The famous slogan
used by the Packard Company, ask the man who owns one, was made
popular in prints ads and was emblazoned on a variety of metal
signs. Other early car manufacturers such as Studebaker, Desoto,
Dodge and Ford produced metal signs that are clearly classics.

Whether advertising or just for decoration, metal and tin signs
have a long history and provide us with a glimpse of the past.
