Did Rising Gas Prices Lead To Matthew Mcconaughey's Recent Car Sale?

Actor Matthew McConaughey reportedly sold his 1971 Corvette
Stingray convertible on eBay for $61,600. But, it wasn't rising
gas prices that led to the sale; McConaughey sold the car for
charity, donating the proceeds to Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network
for Katrina and Rita relief. While gas prices may not have much
of an affect on the deep pockets of Hollywood stars, they have
hit the rest of us quite hard-including florists and those who
buy flowers from them.

Rising gas prices affect the florists on a number of levels, such
as deliveries to customers and shipments from wholesalers. The
affect on florists has been so profound that it's prompted some
to take their concerns before the House committee on Energy and
Commerce.

When John R. Wilkins, AAF, executive vice president of Delaware
Valley Floral Group in Sewell, New Jersey testified in May of
2006, he told the committee, "Other than labor costs, perhaps no
single factor has more power to impact the bottom line of floral
businesses than the cost of fuel. As you buy flowers for your
mothers, wives or daughters this coming weekend in celebration of
Mother's Day, I am estimating that up to 50 percent of the cost
of flowers is attributable to transportation costs. That's not
counting the percentage that might be attributable to other fuel
prices-heat for greenhouses and electricity for refrigeration."

Still other florists are taking matters into their own hands in
an attempt to reduce their costs and pass the savings on to their
customers. Many florists have begun to invest in new vehicles
that get better gas mileage. One such vehicle that some florists
are swearing by for their deliveries is the Toyota Scion xB,
which gets a reported 31 miles per gallon.

Janesville, Wisconsin florist Tom Carlson of Fairview Florist and
Greenhouses says he's cut his operating costs in half while
increasing his visibility in the area. His customers say they see
his Scion, dubbed "the chick magnet," all over town. Carlson
had this to say of the Scion he's owned for about a year now,
"Depreciation is less, insurance is less, maintenance is less
and gas is less."

Mesa, Arizona florist David Johnson, owner of Watson's Flower
Shop, reports that he's saved more than $6,000 in gas since
trading in his two Ford vans for two Scions last summer. The
enormous savings is enough to cover the cost of one of the
Scion's leases for twelve months!

Although the Scion is smaller than the traditional vans that most
florists use, there are ways around that, too. Tom Carlson uses
his larger van only when he has large deliveries while in
Melbourne, Florida Tina Stoecker, AIFD, PFCI (of Designs of the
Times Florist) says her little Scion has just as much space as a
van when she removes the back seat.

No matter what business they're in, people all over America are
looking for ways to beat the rising price of gas. Though the cost
may lead you to sell your old gas-guzzler, if you're like most
of us, you won't be able to donate the money to charity like
Matthew McConaughey did-you'll have to use it to pay for gas to
fill the tank of your new car! Or, you could use some of the
money to buy yourself flowers as a little pick-me-up.

Valentine's Day: Grown-Up Style
Copyright (c) 2008 Vasrue.com, All Rights Reserved
Written by: Clinton Douglas IV
Vasrue
http://www.Vasrue.com

At age five, you woke to the anticipation and thrill of paper
valentines and white doilies decorated with taped-on heart-shaped
lollipops. At age fifteen, your heart raced passing a folded note
to your high school crush. Now that you're an adult,
Valentine's day has taken on a whole new meaning.

Alone or attached, coupled or parenting, Valentines Day is the
ideal opportunity to spoil yourself and those you love. Chill the
bubbly, stock-up on chocolate delicacies, stop by the local
florist and plan one of the most spectacular Valentine's ever.

Here's a few tips for making 2008 the most memorable
Valentine's Day ever:

* Reserve a romantic Bed & Breakfast at a locale you've always
longed to visit. Research your options to find the ideal inn
exquisitely decorated, since you'll want to spend most of your
time indoors. Keep in mind, many popular suites book far in
advance and require a minimum three-day stay.

* Book a three- to five-day ocean cruise to Alaska, Hawaii or
the Caribbean. Day or night, the tranquil ocean waters and gentle
waves have lulled the hearts of lovers for centuries.

* Plan a camping trip in the southwest and remember to schedule
time for a warm, crackling bonfire under the stars, with blankets
optional. Bringing the kids? Just pack the ingredients for warm
s'mores.

* Book time at a spa for a day or weekend filled with luxury and
indulgence. Today's spas offer the best in skin and body care
plus health and wellness. You'll return to work - and life -
vibrant, glowing and rejuvenated.

* Arrange for a romantic Valentine weekend at home. Secretly
arrange childcare with friends or family members. Stock-up on
candles, campaign and truffles. Then prepare a candle lit dinner
for two, complete with a mouth-watering chocolate cake and a
fresh flower arrangement. Then wake early to cook a hearty
breakfast in bed.

* Miss time with your family? Take this opportunity to show
everyone in your life how much you love them. Plan a family
vacation to DisneyWorld, the Mall of America or a historical
landmark the kids are learning about in school. Remember to bring
pink and red cards and gifts for everyone.

* Feeling the creative muse? Draw or paint a portrait of your
paramour, buy an elaborate frame to showcase a photo of the two
of you, or craft a clever love poem using secret memories shared
by only you. You might even conjure up a few lyrics to sing to
him or her on that special day.

* Ready to take your relationship to the next level? Thousands
of couples pop the question during this special holiday. If
you're one of those brave souls, carefully ponder your approach
in advance. You might opt for a private moment or one with a bit
more visibility, such as a YouTube video proposal for the world
to see.

* Solo? Don't mope. Valentine's Day is a perfect chance to
reconnect with your friends. Visit your old college buddy on the
East coast or plan a fun-filled girl's night out.

Valentine's Day is a great day to treat and spoil yourself. Plan
ahead and make it a holiday you'll talk about for years to come.

For Better or For Worse -- Divorce Can Usually Be Prevented

Article Description:

It's likely that the number of couples who do turn to divorce
because they feel as though it's just not possible to resolve
their disputes have not really looked closely at all of the
options that are available to them. If a couple on the brink of
divorce were willing to make an effort to improve their
communication with the help of relationship counseling, then
divorce could possibly be averted.

For Better or For Worse -- Divorce Can Usually Be Prevented
Copyright (c) 2008 Cyndi Fortin
The Family & Marriage Counseling Directory
http://family-marriage-counseling.com/

Ask a few comedians - or for that matter, anyone whose marriage
failed - what the top cause of divorce among married couples is,
and a fair number of them are going to say that the answer is
obvious: marriage. It may be because of this assertion that more
and more couples are opting to not get married at all; if you
aren't married, there's not any reason why you would have to
get divorced.

The rate at which couples are taking the plunge and getting
married is decreasing even though the overall population is
continuing to grow. Based on a recent study on marriage, 7.5 of
1000 individuals get married during the course of the year; 3.6
of 1000 individuals will get divorced. Though this still seems to
give credence to the idea that half of the marriages that take
place in a year end in divorce, the reality is that the number of
people who are divorcing has decreased during the last twenty
five years.

It's not that couples are unable to communicate without marriage
counseling so much as it's the case that many people are better
able to fully express themselves when they're prompted by a
marriage counselor - someone who serves in part to facilitate the
conversation, in part as an objective observer and in part to
help the husband and wife to work though the conflicts that they
are facing.

For example, in many cases, the couple is considering divorce
because they are finding that the time they have together isn't
like it was before the marriage. Therapists can help the husband
and the wife to talk about the ways in which they feel isolated
from their partner, to discuss possibilities that could help to
break down the barriers that are between them.

In many cases, these barriers include one spouse bringing too
much work home from the office or simply working long hours. In
many other cases, a husband and a wife who, while they were
dating, saw each other only a few nights each week or who still
had an evening to go out with friends outside of the relationship
have trouble adapting to spending so much time with one another.

When the challenge that a couple is facing relates to the time
that they have, the time they spend together and the time that
they wish they had for themselves, a marriage counselor is able
to work with them to uncover what they are missing and to work
out ways in which they can stay together and have their needs
met. Similarly, if the issue that the couple is facing has to do
with money, relationship counseling can create a neutral ground
where the issues can be brought up with less anxiety and
frustration.

In most marriages there are struggles around money. Maybe the
husband believes he needs the most up to date technology and
spends extra money on the latest accessories. Maybe the wife is
concerned about spending or maybe she tends to go out and spend
money on things that she doesn't need because she's feeling
isolated, lonely and does not know how to process it. A
relationship counselor can help the couple to work out a
solution, and can work with the couple to discuss both the
surface issues and those that are deeper down.

Unresolved hurt is another frequent cause of divorce that family
counseling can help to resolve. When the wife feels that she
needs more help with the kids or when the husband feels that his
needs are in some way being ignored, it's easy for resentments
to build - resentments that, if left unacknowledged, could lead
one or both partner to look for companionship and intimacy with
someone else.

Marriage counseling, on some levels, can help couples to address
their problems while they are still manageable - before the lines
of communication become so shredded that there's nothing left
connecting the husband and wife. It can also serve couples who
are considering divorce because there has already been hurt or a
breach of trust; talking it out, learning to communicate - to
talk and to not only hear but also to listen - can be the first
step on a path to a stronger, healthier, better relationship.

If marriage were easy, "for better or for worse" would not be
included in a couple's wedding vows. However, just because there
are challenges for those who are married doesn't justify
throwing in the towel - at least not before you've tried to work
it out. Remember that you love one another and wanted to share
your lives; things may not work out, however at least you'll
know you've tried your best.

MORE SOURCES FOR SUBMITTING AND RECEIVING REPRINT ARTICLES

There are in fact 100's of groups just like this one where one
can submit articles or one can retrieve articles for reprint.

I know that there are hundreds of these groups, because as the
owner of http://thePhantomWriters.com, I personally manage more
than 80 groups of this type.

You can find groups of this nature on YahooGroups, Topica,
SmartGroups/Wanadoo Clubs, Google Groups, MSN Groups and other
similar services.

The group that I own and manage that has the largest membership
and the largest number of articles being submitted every month
is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Reprint-Articles

This is a very high volume list, and I do recommend that if
you subscribe to receive articles from this group, that you do
subscribe in Digest Mode. This group publishes nearly 500 new
articles every month.

TYPE OF CONTENT AVAILABLE

Free-Reprint Articles among others are groups that accept all
content posted, so long as that content is not in the form of
advertisements.

Of the groups that I manage and those that I do not own --- that
permit article submissions on any topic --- number in the range
of 30 groups.

Altogether, I have in my database 180+ article submission
groups. Like I said, 30 groups accept articles on all topics.
The remaining groups accept articles on very specific niche
topics only.

Examples of the niche topics served include:

- Health and Fitness

SPECIFIC PLACES TO SUBMIT AND RECEIVE ARTICLES FOR REPRINT

I have a huge list of sites that hope to tell us where we can
submit and locate articles for reprint. Here is a short list of
those sites:

- http://homebiztools.com/article-dir.htm
- http://www.eastrovedica.com/html/articlesubmissioncenters.htm
- http://www.homebiz-direct.com/articleWriting.html
- http://www.arcanaweb.com/resources/article-directories.html

- http://thephantomwriters.com/x.pl/tpw/info/faq/12.html

There are literally hundreds of groups where articles can be
submitted, and there are hundreds of online article banks where
one can submit an article directly.

INFORMATION FOR WRITERS

From polling I have conducted with writer's, no matter how many
groups and websites are available to receive reprint articles,
the average writer submits articles to fewer than seven groups.

This is where my site, http://thePhantomWriters.com, comes into
play. I built my own software which permits me to submit a single
article to as many as 180 groups and five online article banks.

I send a single email to every group that will accept the
article being submitted based on the topic of the article. By
sending single emails, I can be assured that my submissions will
not be rejected on account of cross-posting. Cross-Posting is a
practice of constructing one email and sending it to dozens or
hundreds of destinations.

Most article submission groups prohibit cross-posting. And, most
ISP's consider cross-posting to be a form of Spam and grounds
enough to terminate an ISP account.

By using my service, a writer does not have to be subscribed to
any of the 180 groups to get their articles delivered to the
groups that are relevent to their topics. All subscriptions and
email is handled through my alternate domain,
http://Article-Distribution.com.

In addition to managing all group email and submitting an article
to all relevent groups, I provide multiple records on every
article I submit for my clients.

I also provide my client's articles a place in my online article
bank, and I provide a Cut-and-Paste ready copy of every article
in an autoresponder that is available to any publisher who wants
to reprint the article.

I provide paid advertising and significant promotion to draw more
publishers and webmasters to my archives, so that they can also
find articles that they would like to publish in their ezines,
newsletters, and on their websites. On occasion, articles I have
distributed have also ended up in hard-copy books. Here is the
link to my online article archives for your perusal:

http://thephantomwriters.com/free_content/d/index.shtml

I also provide paid advertising and substantial promotions to get
more publishers and webmasters to join the double-opt-in article
distribution groups that I manage. Once again, the purpose is to
bring new outlets to the articles that I distribute for my
clients.

MORE ABOUT MY SERVICE

The Phantom Writers is a sole proprietorship, operated by myself.
My wife assists me in distributing the articles when time is
short.

Instead of providing my software as a tool that anyone can use, I
provide it instead as a service. It has always been my contention
that any service, that permits the general public to provide the
service to themselves, will be abused.

In order to keep the system strong and effective, I must control
all article distributions. On rare occasions, I have refunded
people money because I felt that their submissions would be
detrimental to the whole service. The credibility of our service
with publishers and webmasters is a necessary ingredient to the
success of all articles distributed through the service.

We offer several options for the purchase of article
distributions. You can review the payment options at:

http://thephantomwriters.com/x.pl/tpw/info/distribution/purchase.html

All articles will generally be submitted within 72 hours. It
must be noted that we do not submit articles on weekends in
order to improve the likelihood of articles being reprinted.
Most publishers polled have said that they only make their
article selections Monday through Friday. So, we make sure that
the articles we distribute are arriving in their mailboxes Monday
through Friday. Occasionally, we will submit an article late on
Sunday night so that the article will be in the publishers
mailbox bright and early on Monday morning.

For a writer to submit an article to seven groups and a dozen
websites can take as much as two hours of tedious, repetitive
tasking. Or, the writer can pay me a small service fee, and I
will get the article out to more groups and more websites than
the writer will generally hit on his or her own.

If you want to learn more about my program, or see which writers
have had good things to say about my program, you can visit my
website directly for the additional information.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
